Do you have a passion for learning, community, and the web? Do you want to use
your web development skills to help people improve their lives? Then you
should be the Skokie Public Library's next web developer. You'll join the
Virtual Community Engagement department, a team of people who plan, develop,
and create websites and web content. We strive to build and maintain user-
centered websites and services to support the library's mission and respond to
the community's needs. The library offers a flexible work environment and
generous support for continuing your education and training as a developer.

  
We are looking for an experienced developer who is versed in best practices
for front-end web development, modern tools like Gulp and Sass, responsive and
user-centered design, version control, and some familiarity with the command
line, servers, databases, and deployment tools is a plus. Python and Django
expertise is strongly preferred.

  
Candidates should be knowledgeable with the following:

  * Modern web development with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  * Responsive and user-centered web design
  * Version control with Git and Github
  * Building sites with frameworks including Django
  * Working with third-party APIs and web services
Our ideal candidate will be creative and a self-starting problem solver who
can work well with others and can explain her or his ideas to non-technical
people. She or he will be a full participant in the design and development
process from user research to deployment.

  
You need a bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science or a related
area, at least two years professional experience, and a portfolio of concrete
examples of websites you've developed. An understanding of and familiarity
with libraries is a plus.
