I'm working on some new ideas -- particularly an API for web updates
that allows for distribution/load balancing on the front end -- but
they're very early in development. I'll announce more when I have a
semi-working model available.

and the server was the reason for this particular identd failure. Your
client received the ident request after ircu had already considered it
to be 'timed out'.
