Truong Chuong Duong commented on NETBEANS-1123:
---

The md5sum is 76166796efa1dbff2b9b1196df1569c4,

I tried to open that file with Eclipse Memory Analyzer and it cannot open my
file with error "An internal error occurred during: "Parsing heap dump from
'/home/duongtc/.netbeans/10.0/var/log/heapdump_post.hprof'".
Java heap space".

I tried to use JProfiler 10.1.4 it can open that file as well. I think that
file is too big to open by any native java app.

I think the problem is the diff tool take to much ram, some hoe it doesn't
release the ram for old diff view so when I tried to compare and view too many
times, it doesn't have enough memory to create new diff view.

If I use an external diff tool I can view as many time as I wish, but when
tried to use the internal diff view I will got slow after around 15 diff views
and it will freeze after nearly 20 times.

Other problem might caused this issue is my file is very big, it has 22.300
lines of code so might it need more memory to create the diff.

Below is some report I got by JProfiler:

!image-2019-01-08-14-33-07-093.png!

Is the nbi stuff means netbeans installer?

Unfortunately this one was not the scope of NETBEANS-1145 (that one is
netbeans*.exe, app*.exe and nbexec*.exe)

I've checked the sources and saw no mingw makefiles for this. if someone
provides those, I'll try to add this to the build process as well.

I think we have the profiler libs to be built as well...

Thanks for the heapdump, it might be corrupt as I could not get it loaded to
NetBeans. Could you add a checksum here for the file?
I've tried to reproduce this issue on NetBeans dev, with git and subversion.
I've failed. I was using the javah bindings for subversion.

Jaroslav Tulach resolved NETBEANS-1638.
---
   Resolution: Fixed
Fix Version/s: 11.0

Good to know you got it working by patching. I've integrated
[PR-1063|https://github.com/apache/incubator-netbeans/pull/1063], so next time
it should work without patching.

Good to know you got it working by patching. I've integrated
[PR-1063|https://github.com/apache/incubator-netbeans/pull/1063], so next time
it should work without patching. I also had to [enlarge the list of exported

[jira] [Updated] (NETBEANS-1867) [TUTORIALS] - review and publication

2019-01-07 Thread Antonio Vieiro (JIRA)

 [

Antonio Vieiro updated NETBEANS-1867:
-
Description:
The third donation from Oracle included the NetBeans Tutorials. These have been
transformed automatically to the AsciiDoc format and need review.

Review process consists of the following steps:
 * Find the images that have not been donated, and create alternatives.
 * Fix any formatting issues from the automated process.
 * Review the "language" of the code examples, so syntax highlighing is correct.
 * Create learning trails.
 * Remove the "*Contents*" section of the tutorial pages (if any, the automatic
process should have removed most of them), we should also remove the list of
links to headings in the content in the Contents section. We're generating a
Table of Contents automatically, so we don't need to manually create one.

The review process will tackle different sets of Tutorials in the following
order:
 # IDE Tutorials in src/content/kb/docs/ide
 # Java Tutorials in src/content/kb/docs/java
 # PHP Tutorials in src/content/kb/docs/php
 # Rest of tutorials: javaee, javame, web, webclient, websvc. Order will be
defined later.

Once reviewed, the tutorials will be linked from the website (links from /help
and from the footer of the website), so users can navigate to them.

Please see
[https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=100827339]
for NetBeans specific Asciidoc Trips & Tricks.

Please see
[https://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/RapidBoard.jspa?projectKey=NETBEANS=303]
for a Kanban Board of the status the tutorials donation.

On a project that uses a package from a different project, when attempting to

corresponding to the ones of the shared package.

After that happens, when re attempting to run all the tests they will run since

testing. The issue can be reproduced by running the test for a single class

 * Create learning trails.

The review process will tackle different sets of Tutorials in the following
order:
 # IDE Tutorials in src/content/kb/docs/ide
 # Java Tutorials in src/content/kb/docs/java
 # PHP Tutorials in src/content/kb/docs/php
 # Rest of tutorials: javaee, javame, web, webclient, websvc. Order will be
defined later.

Once reviewed, the tutorials will be linked from the website (links from /help
and from the footer of the website), so users can navigate to them.

Please see
[https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=100827339]
for NetBeans specific Asciidoc Trips & Tricks.

Please see
[https://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/RapidBoard.jspa?projectKey=NETBEANS=303]
for a Kanban Board of the status the tutorials donation.

[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-1823) JavaFX Scene Builder Integration is still broken (Since Java SE 8u40)

 ]

Pete Whelpton commented on NETBEANS-1823:
-

Unable to replicate on Mint w/NB 10.0 and JDK 10.

Installed Gluon SceneBuilder on Mint using their .deb package (installs
binaries to /opt/SceneBuilder/)

Registered via Preferences -> Java -> JavaFX -> SceneBuilder Home -> Browse and
selecting /opt/SceneBuilder

NB recognises this as a valid SceneBuilder installation folder

Created a new JavaFX FXML project, right click on an FXML file -> Open and
Gluon scene builder launches correctly

Note: This only works on FMXL project type, on a vanilla JavaFX project, NB
opens FXML as text in the editor window

> NetBeans -> Preferences (Options) -> Java ->JavaFX
> The only path supported is one that refers to long abandoned (since Java SE
> 8u40) Oracle's Scene Builder. JavaFX Scene Builder provided by Gluon can not
> be registered and used in NetBeans - which is kind of nonsense as its in fact
> the only maintained version of JavaFX scene builder, recommended even by
> oracle.
> As JavaFX scene builder is effectively "just" an external .fxml file editor -
>  the integration with NB  is trivial (but for some strange reasons it is
> missing from NB for years now) - please fix it if possible.

I successfully applied the patch (well monkey-patched similar changes as in the
attached patch to the pre-build platform cluster). I am now able to run our
complex NetBeans RCP (10.0) application, consisting of our pure-OSGi bundles
with Java 10 and Java 11.

I actually replaced the modules/ext/org.apache.felix.main-4.2.1.jar with the
newest 6.0.1 and updated the manifest in modules/org-netbeans-libs-felix.jar
with the new packages as in the attached patch. A new package (w.r.t the
patch), org.apache.felix.resolver.reason, had to be added to the manifest too.

For the files, this is not a problem, but I can't use for example the sass
process for this. It is not only that I can't see some files, I know how to
treat it instead but some features are not working, like the sass compilation,
running JS tests, adding node.js support etc.

Well, at least you can open the folder into the Favorites window. It's not an
ideal solution, but you should at least be able to edit the files.

Atm, there is nothing I can do to make a workaround of this, except from
changing the whole project structure and think about a new one. This is
possible, when I'm the only one, but we are a company of some teams with
different developers so a lot of other people use this approach, with the nexus
thing for example.

That means also time that I have to explain which is inaccaptable to say that I
can't use my IDE of choice, due to this problem. Ok then take another IDE or
whatever to fix this. So I don't know whether others have this problem but for
me it is essential.

Sry, but it is as it is. Atm I have 114 for NetBeans 10. 7 plugins are
deactivated atm.

Yes it could be a solution to implement it, but I saw a long history of
discussions whether a feature will be implemented into the core code or it
should be better a plugin. Maybe a lot can be implemented nowadays, beacuse
some plugins only do a little piece that, IMHO is essential for NetBeans but
ok. Problems nowadays too is to found the plugin developers again, which they
created plugins years ago.

Another solution is to think about those 250 plugins and see if that source
code can, in co-operation with the plugin authors, be included in Apache
NetBeans GitHub. I really can't think of any valid reason to need 250 plugins.

[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-1412) NetBeans should not scan jars for deactivated plugins

It is not a problem, it is not a bug, it is an improvement. I only want to say,
that deactivated plugins still takes time to scan on NetBeans startup. Little
calculation:

1 Plugin takes 20ms round about to scan while NetBeans startup, which is
deactivated.
If you have 250 plugins installed and you deactivated 150 in case of they are
broken, or not working that well but working good to activate them later, etc.
so you can calculate 150 * 20 = 3s. So we can win 3s of starting time of
NetBeans. This is a little impact, for sure, but if we have some other
improvements later etc, 3s are really nice to have it as a win. (And yes in
NetBeans 8.2 and 9 I had ~ 250 Plugins and I will definitely go to do it in
NetBeans 10 again). So again this could be an improvement, this is not a bug,
not a big problem, but I figured it out and I was wondering, why deactivated
plugins where scanned. There is really no reason for doing this. Thats it.

Well, you can suggest it on the mailing list and if someone wants to analyze
this and fix this, great. I don't suspect there'll be many/any who will want to
do this, though I may be wrong of course. I have never seen any evidence that
deactivated plugins cause performance problems. Someone who does and who can
reproduce it and who can analyze the problem and fix it could look at it.

I don't know much about the complex module system. It is only a
wish/improvement from me, because I thought about it, do to performance/error
researching and I figured out, that deactivated plugins are still scanned and
this has a performance impact in case of some ms and when I have a lot
deactivated plugins, it has an impact of seconds, which has an impact of the
starting time of NetBeans which means performance.

That is a fundamental change to the module system of the NetBeans Platform
which will potentially impact thousands of applications around the world,
including mission critical applications -- consider the cost/benefit of this
and feel free to open a new thread on the dev mailing list to discuss this.
Handling this within an issue like this is not going to lead to success --
you're going to have to propose and fully motivate this, again, via the mailing
list.

Are people on Windows 10 observing this behavior _always_, or just sometimes? A
quick check shows NetBeans 10 using 0% CPU right now on my own Windows 10 setup.

For troubleshooting purposes, it might be worth trying to turn of Windows
Defender's background scan, and seeing if the problem persists. I've got it
permanently disabled myself, for unrelated reasons (it makes Windows Subsystem
for Linux unbearably slow), but it's probably not something we can recommend.

To turn of Windows Defender's background scan, go into the "Edit Group Policy"
app and then set Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows
Components->Windows Defender Antivirus->Turn off Windows Defender Antivirus.

And why I don't want to uninstall is, that I can't remember this plugin
anymore. Now I have a list of 114 plugins, where some are uninstalled. Which is
quite nice, because I still have the list which plugins I installed. When I
uninstall all deactivated plugins, the history is gone, beacuse I don't see
them anymore. Because I go through the list, after I deactivated plugins to
test errors and now I can easily activate them again.

[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-1412) NetBeans should not scan jars for deactivated plugins

Christian Lenz commented on NETBEANS-1412:

This is why I want it as a change/improvement.
It seems that NetBeans knows 3 states:

Installed & activated plugin:
- Shown in the plugin manager as installed and active
- Scanned at NetBeans start
- Loaded at NetBeans start

Installed & deactivated plugin:
- Shown in the plugin manager as installed and deactivated
- Scanned at NetBeans start
- Not loaded at NetBeans start

Not installed
- Not shown in the plugin manager
- Not scanned at NetBeans start
- Not loaded at NetBeans start

I think part 1 and 3 is clear, beacuse if it is installed and activated, it
will be loaded. If it is not installed, nothing happened.
But NetBeans seems to save a state of an installed plugin which I deactivated.
So NetBeans knows that state somehow. And if this is a mapping maybe, inside of
a file which looks like this (only guessing, because I didn't have a look into
the code):
Atmel -> deactivated
Confirm.exit -> deactivated
Arduino -> deactivated.

So for this, that means, that the plugin should be still shown in the plugin
manager as installed and deactivated but in case of the list, it should not be
scanned. For this, a proposal is to move the installed plugins into a separate
folder called deactivated. But I think this will be the same as uninstalled, so
the plugin will not be found.

Well, that's the difference between uninstalling and deactivating. You can't
have it both ways. Though a deactivated plugin is not loaded, it must be
scanned, something must be done with it -- if you want nothing done with it you
should uninstall it.

It is any plugin. For example use this:
http://plugins.netbeans.org/plugin/68372/atmel-plugin because it happens with
others too (conform.exit as a second example.
http://plugins.netbeans.org/plugin/33075/confirm-exit). You don't need to do
much, just install one of those plugins, deactivate it, restart NetBeans, have
a look into the messages.log search for atmel and see that it is scanned.

And in my case, in the description, I gave an explicit example, that I used the
arduino plugin. So you can use it too.

I thought the steps are clear enough, it is not that the plugin is loaded, it
is scanned at the beginning for whatever reason.

Install ANY 3rd party plugin (Arduino, Atmel, whatever you want). Deactivate
the plugin and restart netbeans and open the messages.log file. You will see,
if you search for your added plugin, which is deactivated, that it is still
scanned and it takes some ms.

I guess that happens, because the plugin is still inside of the modules folder.
If you deinstall the plugin, it is not there anymore which is correct. So again
my proposal is to move deactivated plugins to a folder called deactivated to
not been scanned but they should be shown in the plugin manager as deactivated.

> Something I have noticed in Netbeans is that from time to time Netbeans CPU

> Please fix this as this is a huge annoyance.

Instead of 9.0-beta-rc2, can you use Apache NetBeans 10, with a fresh user
directory, and provide steps to reproduce this? If not, we will have to close
this.

[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-1412) NetBeans should not scan jars for deactivated plugins

Step by step instructions to reproduce this with Apache NetBeans 10, please.
When something is deactivated it means it should not be loaded again at startup.

> When I deactivate plugins, they will still be inside the folder
> *C:\Users\Chrl\AppData\Roaming\NetBeans\8.2\modules*. When opening NetBeans I
> got over 100 warnings of dependencies that will upgraded:
> {code}
> WARNING [org.netbeans.core.modules]: had to upgrade dependencies for module
> arduino: added = [module org.netbeans.modules.projectuiapi.base/1 > 1.78.0,

> So yes I installed arduino but I deactivated it. I deactivated a lot more
> like ruby and atmel and all are scanned. So for me, I don't want to deinstall
> those plugins, because I will loose the history of all plugins that I added
> months or years ago.
> So in my understanding, netbeans scans all jars inside of the modules folder
> and this takes time. Not that much, maybe some ms but if you have 150 addons
> installed, like me and NetBeans needs round about 20ms for that jar to scan
> at starting the IDE and give the warning, doesn't matter whether it is
> activated or not, it will increase the starting time. So 150 * 20ms = 3s. Of
> course this is not much but preventable.
> I would prefer to move deactivated plugins into a sub folder called
> deactivated and exclude them from scanning, if this is possible, How does
> that sounds?
> Cheers
