Robert Schultz commented on NETBEANS-4256:

Potentially related, there appears to be two values likely intended to have the
same purpose.  `pi-content`, the one that is not persistent after a restart of
Netbeans but affects the rendering and `PI Content` which is persistent but
doesn't do anything.

Matthias Bläsing commented on NETBEANS-5070:

As I see it, the problem is not the font metric, but the calculation of the
positions where differences in the calculations of the position at various
places in Sel.java and Term.java and maybe the fact, that calculations are done
in integer space, but that is a shot in the dark.

Matthias Bläsing commented on NETBEANS-5070:

Are you sure, that you would not find that is true for every resolution (i.e.
also SCALE=1)? With which font was that tested? Was it monospaced? I expect a
monospaced font not to contain kerning information, but "regular" fonts will
contain it and it might cause the character position to change.

Michal Hlavac edited comment on NETBEANS-5070 at 12/30/20, 8:14 PM:

Sorry I meant string width. From what I tried and problem is, that I am not
swing pro, I discovered that with {{SCALE = 2}}, fixed font size and e.g.
string of 10 characters width is not same as {{width('a') * 10}}. It would be
great if somebody with better swing knowledge could help with this.

[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-5070) Partitial fix for NETBEANS-819 breaks terminal

 ]

Matthias Bläsing commented on NETBEANS-5070:

Sorry - but I don't see the problem with the assumption, that the width of a
character is fixed. For a given resolution (DPI) and a given monospaced font I
expect all characters to have the same width. From my POV the terminal needs to
be updated when the DPI or the font changes.

When displays with different resolutions are used (not sure how swing handles
it) and the widget is visible on both screens, then the story changes, here it
would be interesting to know what swing does in that case.

I was thinking about revert all this work and try it again. Problem with
netbeans terminal emulator implementation is, that it assumes fixed character
width. It's true for SCALE = 1, but not for SCALE = 2. I don't know home many
developers uses 4K displays.

[jira] [Commented] (NETBEANS-5070) Partitial fix for NETBEANS-819 breaks terminal

Matthias Bläsing commented on NETBEANS-5070:

First result from analysis: we see an overflow here - the negative value
results from a line of only \0 chars. These have a width of 0 and so we never
advance and end the loop with an exception.

[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-5196) Maven projects using a module-info.java cause Netbeans instability in 12.x.

2020-12-30 Thread Ryan Moquin (Jira)
Ryan Moquin created NETBEANS-5196:
-

Summary: Maven projects using a module-info.java cause Netbeans
instability in 12.x.
 Key: NETBEANS-5196
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-5196
 Project: NetBeans
  Issue Type: Bug
Affects Versions: 12.2
Reporter: Ryan Moquin

I've always had problems with Netbeans instability when trying to play around
with making a project that uses a module-info.java file.  Each time, Netbeans
encounters exceptions which cause it to go into long periods of
unresponsiveness from that point on.  This has led me to avoid using JPMS.  I
decided just to try to deal with it, and have been experiencing really bad
instability in Netbeans (if you guys don't see it, create a Quarkus project and
add a module-info.java to it).  I love Netbeans, and this is really the only
major issue I ever have with it.  I'm hoping it can be straightened out soon.
The attached bug report is from 12.1, but it happens with 12.2 as well.  I've
been switching back and forth to see which might be more tolerable.  It seems
like 12.2 is worse with JPMS.

Here is one of the log entries, but not sure it's helpful.  I'll attach come
other relevant files.  There are some random errors I see about not being able
to parse a particular java source file, but it's all valid normal code.  I
excluded those to avoid attaching company source code.  I'm thinking maybe it
has something to do with the repeated stack traces about an invalid compile
phase.

Matthias Bläsing reopened NETBEANS-5070:

This is still broken on windows - the following image was created by running
`npx grunt` from the terminal window. This runs grunt and as part of that
uglify and some other grunt tasks were run. I assume, that some console
interaction triggered the problem:

This is still broken on windows - the following image was created by running
`npx grunt` from the terminal window. This runs grunt and as part of that
uglify and some other grunt tasks were run. I assume, that some console
interaction triggered the problem:

I can confirm that changing the width and height of the svg to 16x16, as
suggested by [~ebakke], fixes the issue.

How about using the JSON logo by Douglas Crockford for denoting common JSON
files?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JSON#/media/File:JSON_vector_logo.svg

Here is a suggestion:

!icon-json.png!

Regarding package.json package.json, package-lock.json and npm-debug.log icons,
if logo usage would be permitted by npm, Inc., the npm square logo
([https://github.com/npm/logos]) could be considered, (e.g. in a sheet like the
suggestion above) as it will provide better readability at 16x16 than the full
three letter logo.

[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-5195) Change icon for JSON files

2020-12-30 Thread Martin H. (Jira)
Martin H. created NETBEANS-5195:
---

Summary: Change icon for JSON files
 Key: NETBEANS-5195
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-5195
 Project: NetBeans
  Issue Type: Improvement
Components: projects - Generic Projects UI
Reporter: Martin H.
 Attachments: json-logo.png, outline-braces.png, regular-braces.png

I would like to suggest an alternate icon for the JSON file type, as it is
currently denoted by the same icon as JavaScript files. Below are some variants.
 #  The graphical logo for JSON.
(See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JSON#/media/File:JSON_vector_logo.svg)

!json-logo.png!

 # Curly braces, as in some other IDEs.

!regular-braces.png!

 # Outlined curly braces, matching the style of some other NetBeans file icons.

!outline-braces.png!
