You can use NetBeans Slack at netbeans.slack.com or Telegram:

For Gradle Tasks, use the Navigator, if you would like to set up a custom

Well, when I designed the UI I found that putting all tasks in the context menu
could be overkill, at least for my projects. The other plugin does not have a
Navigator, so putting all tasks there was a necessary. Right now we have a Task
Navigator, also with favorites.

As of the alien source dir, I might change the current error node
representation to a package node with a warning badge. Still doing that is a
bad practice!

As of "-x test". On the Tools > Options > Java > Grade > Execution > Global
Execution Options
By default it is marked Skip check which results a "-x check", however under
that there is a Skip test that results a '-x test' for usual execution.

If that would not happen it is a bug.

As of including sources from other parts of the filesytem, that's a bad
practice. Just imagine what shall the IDE do, if in this case a file in
"websockets" theoretically belongs to two project which might have (and usually
does) two different classpath which one shall the IDE use? That's why the error
nodes are displayed for such a source directories.

In this case if you use includeBuild, then there is no need (unless there is
something really wrong here), to add the sources that way. Just add a
dependency with group:artifact:version in the dependencies. Gradle will take
care of the paths. Also there is a bug in NetBeans 12.2 which results an IAE on

Hmm, I do not see why those user-specific arguments can't be placed into the
user's gradle.properties file at $GRADLE_HOME/gradle.properties

Telling the truth, implementing such a feature might not be a hard one. But
those kind of customization usually leads to : It work in command line, why
does it not in my IDE, then it turns out that we have some customization in the
IDE. I see your point, but what is the usecase, that can't be solved without
this feature?

> I experienced a number of total freezes after installing NB 12.2 (have been

> The black shadow around the error dialog actually is tens or hundreds of the

> If you remove a large number of selected nodes (e.g. 10,000), you may run out
> of heap space. Note that this does not occur when deleting nodes because the
> nodes are first deselected, but it will happen if the nodes to be removed are
> not first deselected.
> This seems to be related to [bug
> #193852|https://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=193852] designed to
> attempt to maintain cursor position when removing a node from the tree. Prior
> to the change for this bug, the node parent was set to null when the node was
> destroyed and therefore was not added to the list of nodes to be deselected
> in {{org.openide.explorer.view.TreeView.removedNodes}}.
> One fix (in [^RemoveNodeOutOfHeapSpace.patch]) is to change the check in
> {{org.openide.explorer.view.TreeView.removedNodes}} when adding to the
> removed selection list ({{remSel}}) to avoid adding paths for the nodes that
> will be deleted and only add the selected child nodes. This was put in place
> to avoid leaking memory for child nodes (see
> [JDK-6472844|https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-6472844]), so I think
> this will maintain the intent and not result in further memory leaks.

Try to use the following command:

restorecon -R -v /home/ulrichmayring/.netbeans

if that would help then it would be some SELinux issue

[jira] [Resolved] (NETBEANS-5199) Can't create offscreen surface

Laszlo Kishalmi resolved NETBEANS-5199.
---
Resolution: Information Provided

Well it says: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Can't create offscreen surface

So either you are running low on some memory, or the used Java 8 has some bug
in the native GTK rendering.

I'd recommend to try a different JDK and or LookAndFeel or maybe upgrade your
RAM if needed.

Unfortunately there is nothing else we can do about this issue.

[jira] [Created] (NETBEANS-5146) Make it possible to control TreeView-s scrollOnExpand property

2020-12-13 Thread Laszlo Kishalmi (Jira)
Laszlo Kishalmi created NETBEANS-5146:
-

Summary: Make it possible to control TreeView-s scrollOnExpand
property
 Key: NETBEANS-5146
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-5146
 Project: NetBeans
  Issue Type: Improvement
  Components: platform - Explorer
Reporter: Laszlo Kishalmi
Assignee: Laszlo Kishalmi

During fixing: NETBEANS-2387 it turned out that the scrollOnExpand property of
the underlying JTree is true by default. I'd either have to re-implement the
node based navigator view on simple JTree or expose the scrollOnExpand property
in TreeView.

Well,

This usually happens with 'wrong' Gradle projects, that puts the source
directories outside of the sub-project folder. These are also places where
people use these source folders to share code between subprojects.

Anyway in those cases the FileOwnerQuery could return something else than the
sub-project where the sources are defined.

The root project FileOwnerQuery might be tweaked to take account sourcedirs
outside the sub-project, but if sub-projects start to share code, then I do not
know what could be done.

> After initializing (usually running netbeans command on Ubuntu terminal), the

Oh. Then you need to get the exception. BTW it is possible to completely freeze
the UI from a debugging session. Especially if you are debugging some AWT/UI
related code. Usually the OS UI event handling is happening on a single thread
which can be occasionally blocked. (Just happened with me on the last weekend).
There is no way the IDE code can prevent that.

The easiest workaround is to have the debugee and the debugger application  run
on different computers. You can use a VM for that as well. A bit hassle to set
up at the beginning, but can work really well.

Well, it does not count what JDK, you are using for NetBeans. Use a NetBeans
which supports Java 7 which might be the old Oracle NetBeans 8.2.

I'd put this issue in won't fix as Java 7 is only available for paid support
only.

Well maybe use an older NetBeans like 8.2 could work for you.
As far as I see NB tries to upload some classes in the debugee JVM. As Since
NetBeans 9.0 we are building with Java 8 all of our classes are Java 8
compatible. We also have to build our stuff on Java 11, which dropped the
option to use the target version of the class format below Java 8.

And probably it is time to seriously consider to upgrade to JDK 8.
