The update checker has aleays worked perfectly: it exists to tell you about
updates to the modules you use. It doesn’t tell you about new Apache NetBeans
releases, indeed you do need to stay in touch with free open source projects
and contribute to them by joining the mailing lists, etc.

Geertjan Wielenga commented on NETBEANS-6011:
-

Are you sure that you've tried to reproduce on 12.5 as well? We haven't
announced it yet, but you should see the download page here:

https://netbeans.apache.org/download/nb125/nb125.html

If you can reproduce with that, from scratch, and produce a thread dump again,
ideally using different JDKs, i.e., two thread dumps, that would help a lot in
understanding the problem.

> I have opened a Java Spring project. Then open a few java source files.
> While editing a Java source file, I do Ctrl+Click on a variable type to
> navigate to the definition of that type.
> The type definition is opened but the UI is frozen. Nothing can be done. It
> is completely unresponsive. The ide has to be killed from task manager.
> Happening every time. Not random. See screen shots.
> Can send the video also if required but the file is too large.

You’re running NetBeans 12, which does not support JDK 17, on JDK 17. The LTS
of Java that NetBeans 12 supports is JDK 11.

Upload the ZIP we created here and if you have the opportunity to try your

Yes, thought this might be a problem. At the point where you force NetBeans to
close, there'll be several log files in the folder where the messages.log is
found, would be good to upload anything you find there to here.

Maybe you could start up again with a new userdir and cache dir, encounter the
problem again, and then attach a thread dump when it freezes and the log files
you'll find generated in the userdir.

Strange. Let's see if [~neilcsmith] can reproduce it on his Windows machine.

Is there a way you could try on a different machine, any other machine, to see
if it is specific to the one you're encountering this on?

Maybe one thing you could try is look in the About box for the location of the
user dir and cache dir, find them, delete them, restart NetBeans, which means
you've removed all the settings (which may be corrupt somehow) and then open
the project again and try this scenario again.

If that wouldn't work, would be a big issue that a lot of people would be

> I have opened a Java Spring project. Then open a few java source files.
> While editing a Java source file, I do Ctrl+Click on a variable type to
> navigate to the definition of that type.
> The type definition is opened but the UI is frozen. Nothing can be done. It
> is completely unresponsive. The ide has to be killed from task manager.
> Happening every time. Not random. See screen shots.
> Can send the video also if required but the file is too large.

OK, I'm going to provide you with the numbered steps, which work, please follow
the below and confirm:

1. Open your project into Apache NetBeans 12.4 (look in the title bar and in
the About box to confirm you are actually using 12.4).

2. Right-click the project and choose Run.

3. You'll see content in the Output window, ending with this:

2021-08-28 21:11:46.662 INFO 28488 --- [ main]
c.l.s.d.s.SpringbootDemoApplication : Started SpringbootDemoApplication in
6.304 seconds (JVM running for 6.576)

4. Open the browser and go to http://localhost:8080.

5. In the browser you will now see this:

Hello world of Spring! Time on server is 2021-08-28T21:12:27.429932

6. In the Output window, click the red button (when you hover over it, this
button says "Stop the currently executing build").

7. On line 21 of FunRestController.java, change line 21 to the following:

return "Hello!!!" + LocalDateTime.now();

8. Right-click the project and choose Run.

9. Look in the Output window and see the last line says:

2021-08-28 21:15:12.898 INFO 28588 --- [ main]
c.l.s.d.s.SpringbootDemoApplication : Started SpringbootDemoApplication in
6.265 seconds (JVM running for 6.514)

10. Refresh the browser and you will see this:

Which browser is it (maybe time to upgrade your browser)?

The project you provided works perfectly. Take a look at the code to see what
it should do, i.e., go here http://localhost:8080 and then you will see "Hello
world of Spring! Time on server is 2021-08-28T18:51:37.632120".

If you click the button to stop the deployment, you can make a change to your
message and then redeploy it to see your change.

If you're still encountering a problem, please provide steps so that I can
reproduce the problem.

Which JDK are you using to run NetBeans? Which operating system? Which JDK are
you using for your application?

Did you install 12.4 from scratch?

I have used the Spring Initializr a lot, without a problem. Looking at the
startup messages, at what point did it get stuck, i.e., the last messages shown
might give you a clue to the problem.

I’m curious what the “minor additions” are. How can we really reproduce the
problem without a description of your environment and a sequence of steps to do
so?

Include 3 columns in all 3 column tables

Some of the tables, starting with "Tool collection definition tags" were
defined as 3 columns while several of the lines had only 2 columns of data,
leading to scrambled tables.
All I did was add a 3rd vertical bar on lines that didn't have them. I
have not evaluated the result for content, although at a glance it seems much
more readable.

This happens specifically in 12.4 and not earlier releases, [~sephiroth-j]? And
what operating system and JDK version are you using?

OK, from the above, you're using Windows 10 x64 with Java 11.0.11, and you've
uninstalled nb-javac, and it is still happening. How frequently?

One common aspect for all of the reports above is that everyone seems to be
using Windows here.
