Kevin Dean wrote a great review of the FSO Milestone 2 release, and
some commentary about the new OM direction that I think expresses the
opinion of a lot of us. It's not really surprising, but it is well
said.

I built a FSO kernel the other night that fixes the problem with hanging up
in Milestone 1 FSO. Sorry, FreeRunner owners, I only built the Neo1973
version.
If you install this kernel with the Milestone 1 jffs2 on your Neo1973, you
should get the behavior described on

See http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Stable_Hybrid_Release to sign up to
help out, or to get the images once we have something.
**Overview**
The Stable Hybrid Release (SHR) is intended to be a combination of the
FSO, some of the 2007.2 GTK software, and the ASU that provides all of
the functionality
I tried to dfu burn a new image (well, an old image - the latest recommended
openmoko-devel-image) last night, then opkg install some standard stuff I've
been using. Tangogps, several python packages, openmoko-keyboard, that sort
of thing.
The burning went fine, but after the opkg update & instal

I sent this before to openmoko-devel and was greeted with a deafening
silence, so I'm resending to a broader audience. As evidenced by a recent
post to openmoko-devel by saurabh gupta, one of the GSoC selectees, this
really is a problem. The longer it's put off, the more potential benefits

I really don't understand why there's so much angst
I am one of those crazy people who use the neo 1973 as their everyday phone,
and I NEVER use the pouch. Does any current every day user use the pouch or
lanyard?
I lost the stylus (it's way too cool; if you forget it at a restaurant or
something, you don't get a call asking if you want it back :-
I don't think that's reaching at all! The blogger running
http://gadgets.boingboing.net just blogged this week about how he lost
his iPhone - it fell out of his pocket in a taxicab and he didn't
realize until after.
Maybe if it happens 6 months hence we can berate him for not avoiding

Hey Michael,
I use AT&T as my service (since they bought out Cingular). I had an
Cingular SIM (63689 G 4004) that wouldn't work. You upgraded my GSM
firmware and it worked fine afterwards. (Thanks!)
It still works now.
Thanks,

In case some of you aren't on the device owners list I posted this to
before, I created a script that will detect when you're plugged into a
charger that's causing a slow (100mA) charge and will ask if you want
to do fast charge instead.
Examples of such chargers include a car charger, the usb por
I had the same problem. It seemed that sometimes the pand -c command on the
neo would fail, but subsequent tries would work.
I created a script to handle connecting to my linux machine to do bluetooth
networking. I have put it on the wiki at

I run a website (Frimp.net) that lets people post & search for things to
sell. The branding is not exactly attractive for a technical audience, but
it does let you specify your zipcode so people can find items for sale near
one another.
It is, of course, all free to use.
So sellers could create
OK, I see that FreeRunner doesn't have the case, or the stand, and currently
doesn't have the software.
How else is FreeRunner "not close" to hitting the mark? There is a TON of
work to be done on the software side, and I'm not entirely convinced
openmoko is the answer, but what's wrong with the
