Yep. One needs to notice that there is no standard for 2.5mm plugs
like there is for 3.5mm. That is, eg. Nokia's 2.5mm - 3.5mm adapters
do not work with Neo. Motorola's do.

You probably have the wrong adaptor. You need one that goes from 2.5mm
stereo + mic - 3.5mm stereo. You probably bought a stereo - stereo
adaptor. I've been looking for the correct adapter so I can use my good
headphones with the FR, but no one seems to sell it...

Yes, you have to by a 2.5 mm plug with 4 rings and solder a short cable to a
3 ring socket.
