The GPS should help with that...

Once my Neo knows how I walk, it can detect that I am walking and subtract the
walking
pattern from the accelero data. Remaining data contains noise from walking
(hopefully noisy enough to go unde
But not while walking... Differentiating between motions and situations will
be a big challenge.

I think the idea is great... I've designed a few control systems using
accelerometers to time the ejection of parachutes on MPRs/HPRs (Medium/High
Power Rockets). The biggest issue is how to interpret the data.
One of the largest problems we've had to overcome with accelerometers is
averaging the

The initial proposal mentioned muting the ringer, not denying the phone.
It's perfectly OK to mute
I like the idea - especially because I always have full pockets and it takes
hours to fish the phone out ;)
Imho it should be possible to implement, a knock should give a peak you
can't reach while walking and even if it happens, it shouldn't be that
worse.

This doesn't work well because the screen moves with the phone. So if you
want to scroll right fast, you'll have trouble to see what's going on on the
screen. Scrolling should rather be done on the touchscreen because that
works really well. However, dragging the map/website as if it was physical

Depends I think. A short knock might have a different signature. But
difficult to judge without a real device.

Imagine you're surfing the internet, or checking a map, or something like
that. We don't have a multi-touch screen, so we can't zoom out with our
fingers like iPhone users. Zooming out, though, is something we really

I guess it might be not to hard to implement your idea. This is an
classical example of e.g. fault detection. Used in the industry to
identify "strange" sensor signals which might indicate a coming fault in
the system. The idea is to precisely identify an odd behaviour long

It should be reasonably easy to tell them apart. Knocking the phone should
give a sharp peak acceleration with greater magnitude than you would get from
walking. We'll only find out by trying it though ;-)

I'm sure such an idea is on the wiki already, if not add it.

Hi,
first, I'm new to this list, hello.
Second, an the reason to subscribe ;-) I've got an idea for using the
accelerometer. If it came up before, sorry for the bandwidth.
But now, for the real stuff.
The following scenario, you carry your phone in some pocket. Now it rings,
but you want it to
I agree it could work like the microsoft intellisence. When you start
typing the word it does a look up and tries to autofill the rest if you hit
space once the right name is highlighted then it finishes it off for you.
Either that or allow users to search by first or last name. You might be

I think a good way to solve this problem is with auto-suggest while you
type. So, after you type "sil", the application "suggests" the last half of
your name by displaying it in a different color or highlighted. Then you
just tap the word/name with your finger and it finishes it for you. This i
Hi Openmoko List!
I have been following the progress of openmoko and I really love how
things are going. As far as I can tell now, I will order the Neo as soon
as it is available.
Here are some ideas that I would really love to see in openmoko:
