You probably want to _install_ debian, not _compile_ it. And you can't
every single package, that would be much more than the largest SD card
can handle.

Anyways, what options did you give to install.sh? "./install.sh all"?

generally 5 seconds

Good idea :) I was thinking about dual-touch but I didn't like
my ideas, so I am going to develop your idea if there is not
another bettter ;-)

Yeah, we would like more size eh? :) But when I work with scroll
and bigger sizes the game is not fluent :( 
I started with a smaller size and I after some improvements in the
code I got the current size.. I am not sure if I will be able 
to have nice scroll with bigger sizes, but I will my best ;-)
(we already know the problems with graphics there).

Moreover I could avoid the scroll using the whole screen but
I like the scroll because the game loses action if the table
is fixed and only the ball is moving.

New Android Release and Resources...

I just wanted to let everyone know that there is a new release  
available at http://freerunner.android.koolu.com . In addition, the  
site contains the status of the project, where the project is headed  
as well as test lists and results.

As well as the new site, there are two other places for Android  
related information. An Android on Freerunner mailing list is now  
available at http://android.koolu.org/listinfo.cgi/android-freerunner-koolu.org 
  .

Lastly, there is a new IRC channel on Freenode.net where people are  
gathering to ask questions and provide peer support. #freerunner- 
android.

the commonly-used debian for freerunner is not installed by flashing,
but from a sh script. more info here:

usb works. i didn't try wifi, but no reason why it shouldn't work,
there are free drivers for the hardware

hackable1 is based on debian, and is available as two flashable
images, tar.gz and experimental jffs2:

I moved my freerunner host to new hardware and a new version of ubuntu
(jaunty jacalope) and the usb networking is vastly more stable, so i'm able
to play on the freerunner much more comfortably. what i think i'd like to do
is find a stock, working full on debian system that actually has working
wifi, annd usb that i can install wiith 2 flash operations, one for the
kernel, one for the file system (jffs2?) does such a thing exist?

But I don't know the when (the triggering of the kill command).

I know that qpe is the 'server' that handles the stuff, but I don't  
know yet how

to 'connect' to the events.

On Frameworkd there are some yaml files. Are there similar things for  
2008.12 ?

I have used a special version with qlamo support. That version  
probably does not support sound ??


Now I am using the orginal version (2008.12) with the fbdev parameter  
instead. It is ok now.


I have some breakouts that may come from mplayer, but also may from  
memcoder. (I have a DVB-T USB stick)
Also I have a little bad signal strength. So it may mencoder to be the  
cause for the breakout. I am collecting the

logs of mencoder.

But in general, sound is available (using bluetooth).

All that streamed over WLAN from my VDR server :-)

FR is cool.

[OM2008-12] Wireless interface won't accept the DHCP offer...

I've configured the FR to use dhcp to get an IP address through the
wireless interface after it connects to the AP using WPA2. This has
been working for quite some time. I did have the occasional event
where the FR would get booted but it would just start cycling along
doing the dhcp discover and after a few minutes of this I would reboot
the FR and the next time up it would come and finish the connection
and I would have a good wireless connection to the FR.

I control both ends (I've created the AP using a laptop, USB wireless
dongle and the s/w application hostapd). The FR boots and negotiates
the wifi access but when it comes to the dhcp negotiation its failing.
I can see the AP listing the DHCP DISCOVER message and sending to the
FR (I know its the FR since the MAC address is correct) the DHCP
OFFER. The FR only prints the DHCP Discover message and never seems to
see the DHCP OFFER.

I haven't done any changes to the s/w on the FR and this problem
usually does go away after a few minutes but its now been a few hours
and doesn't seem to be fixing itself. I'm wondering what kind of
scenarios can occur where the dhcp client just can't use the dhcp
server's offer?

I think I picked the pieces together from various google searches - you 
probably need to install bluez and family of programs: apt-cache search 
bluez

I then used 'hcitool' to connect. I found this in my rc.local, so I 
guess it was also necessary:

echo 1 > /sys/bus/platform/devices/neo1973-pm-bt.0/power_on

echo 0 > /sys/bus/platform/devices/neo1973-pm-bt.0/reset
hidd --search

there is probably a lot more I could do to make it secure...  you will 
probably also want to look into a custom keymap - 'loadkeys', 'showkey', 
'xev' and 'xmodmap' helped there. my only niggle at the moment is the X 
mappings seem a little jittery, not sure if that comes from updates or 
just me tweaking the wrong switch :-|

I use dvorak on my PC and frogpad on my Neo.  They both took about the same 
amount of time to learn.  It took about a week to be able to type without 
frequently looking; about two weeks to get up to a functional speed (Like 
handwriting speed), and about two months of frequent usage to master it.

It interacts well with the phone, but if you're using the old bluez API you 
have to constantly stick a paperclip in the little hole to make it link up 
(It's not a big connect button like most bluetooth keyboards).  Newer bluez 
APIs allow you to register it as an input device and it can link up 
automatically when you turn it on.

Seems to work fine. The only output in x.log now is a single
"wget: server returned error: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found"
after looking at 900 of 5 files.

5 files will still take some time to check, but the
counting seems faster now. Not writing messages probably
helps.


Another idea: I can't always leave the phone connected to a net
for as long as this update takes. If yaouh get interrupted (app closed,
linux shutdown, network plug pulled, crash) then it could remember how 
far it got. And on the next start, continue from there instead of 
starting at
the first file each time.

Currently, short yaouh runs means that one corner of my map is very up 
to date, and not the rest. Continuing from the last stop would
even things out.

Have you tried "./linball -h"? :)

"DISPLAY=:0 ./linball -f -n" runs linball without sound and
super speed ;-)

I was discussing how you might do this on IRC. The problem is when multiple
apps are trying to wake up from suspend; I understand the hwclock interrupt
can only have one value. You need a program managing a priority queue of
interrupts or the like. I suggested using cron for this, but I'm not strong
enough with the source to hack it myself. :P

application can I open ProE, IGES or STEP files. I know IGES can be

Hi,

I am trying to convert a recorded VDR video with mencoder, but my FR  
gives no sound. Playing mp3 files

works.

Here is the command that I have from another post:

mencoder $1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vbitrate=300 -vf  
scale=320:240,eq2=1.2:0.5:-0.25,rotate=2 -oac mp3lame -ofps 15 - 
lameopts br=64:cbr -o $2


What am I doing wrong ?

Remove the shutdown on low battery rule 
from  /etc/freesmartphone/oevents/rules.yaml and restart.

It could be possible from u-boot bootloader prompt.

According to Michael this is for booting from NAND:

bootargs_base=rootfstype=jffs2 root=/dev/mtdblock6 
console=ttySAC2,115200 loglevel=8 regular_boot
bootcmd=setenv bootargs ${bootargs_base} ${mtdparts}; nand read.e 
0x3200 kernel 0x30; bootm 0x3200

I am not sure if this is possible when kernel is on SD card.
You can try replace jffs2 with ext3 and /dev/mtdblock6 with
/dev/mmcblk0p2 and commands for loading kernel (nand read.e)
with their equivalent for SD card.

[FSO] Disable system shut down on low Bat

Hi,

I'm using the latest FSO unstable build. If I've connected my Freerunner to my 
PC for developing I always use a cheap Battery and not the original Openmoko 
Battery. But because the cheap Battery is not recognised correctly FSO 
believes my Battery is empty and shuts the phone down after some minutes.
Is there any way to avoid this? Config File? DBUS API?

[FSO] issues using fso images / no wireless

Hello list,

as I still cannot compile FSO on my machines I tried to use the already
build images provided by [1]. After flashing the kernel and rootfs I could
easily boot und setup my FR. Now it seems there is no Dialer and/or Contact
application preinstalled. I wanted to install them from the repos, but
after establishing a connection to a wireless network it turned out that
doesn't work at all. I got my IP address and 'route' tells me the default
gateway is set properly. But no packet seems to go out... So, anyone know
if there is a known issue with wireless on the current FSO builds? I'm
ready to flash again if I did something wrong, if you help me. I didn't use
the
modules-2.6.28-oe1+gitr34240a1c06ae36180dee695aa25bbae869b2aa26-r2-om-gta02.tgz
file, I simply don't know what to do with it. May this be a problem?

Used files for flashing are:
openmoko-fso-image-glibc-ipk--20090118-om-gta02.rootfs.jffs2

I just added an INSTALL file in paroli rep [0] with some instructions
hope it may help.

I understand that having to install efl from sources may be annoying for
people who just want to give paroli a try. But it really the only thing
needed, all the other dependencies (mostly python and a few python
libraries) have packages for all common linux distribution.

Beside, you don't need to have FSO to try paroli. If it can't find FSO,
it will use some dummy services that emulate the presence of a phone
stack.

It requires e17 from svn and their python bindings, it acts with the
FSO stack, need tichy (it is integrated these days,if Im right).
(I personally started to install all this stuff on my Desktop, but just
gave up after a couple of day)

I gave paroli an example for a good reason, because tightly integrated
to the phone:
- does not require kernel development knowledge
- it only requires python knowledge (more easy to catch up as C for example)
- it use e17 for the gui (as all the essential program for the phone)
- it use FSO

So if somebody want to write a nativ program (in the future) for the
freerunner,
it is best to start contributing to paroli...

So an official (maintained) development environment would help the starters.
