Hi !
thanks a lot for this tool, it works great !!
One idea of improvement : Play mid file with the corresponding note when
clicking on one of the 6 button. This way, we can approach the note faster,
and then use the vu meter to adjust it.

Hi all
I think this idea is great. I am using SHR from the start, and now I
installed Hackable 1 on my SDcard (I need a PIM solution). So I miss the
goodies in www.opkg.org.

My proposal : Could it be possible to add a new functionality in opkg.org :
For each software listed, add a new information which would be :
* the deb package when existing
* some idea of replacement (debian has a huge amount of applications) if no
deb.

If the author and maintaner of opkg.org read this post : What do you think ?

I'm not sure what the FR uses, because 2008.12 doesn't display cell
info (if I could see the cell info I could tell which one the phone is
currently using (900 or 1800) because, when it uses 1800 there's
number 8 in the cell name). But with other phones it's so that it
changes when I move around. When 1800 MHz is available then it uses
this and otherwise it uses 900 MHz.

Given that there are some applications (e.g. navit) which are updated
regularly for opkg, but not for deb, it occurred to me that as the
file formats are so similar, it shouldn't be so hard to write a script
to convert from one to the other.

i did it once.
rename the opkg to deb, run
alien -r -c the.deb
alien -d -c the.rpm

problem is, that most of the dependencies get lost while transforming, so
you need to check beforehand.

(First time it went only to Ed. I'm sending it again. Sorry.)

I think that is not the same. I don't know how it is called. But my
old nokia phone shows it on the home screen. And in the nokia's
settings menu it is called cell info display. In my network it is
usually the name of the place where the cell tower locates and some
number (and when it's 1800MHz there is a number 8).

But I found out how I can see what frequency the FR is currently using
(
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Neo_1973_and_Neo_FreeRunner_gsm_modem#Serving_Cell_Information_.282.2C1.29
). I put AT%EM=2,1 in your chat script. Like this:

TIMEOUT 15
 ATE0
ABORT BUSY
ABORT DELAYED
ABORT NO ANSWER
ABORT NO DIALTONE
ABORT VOICE
ABORT ERROR
ABORT RINGING
OK AT%EM=2,1
CLR_ABORT
ABORT OK

(I don't know if all these other lines are necessary).
It says my Current Channel Number is 49. So according to
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Neo_1973_and_Neo_FreeRunner_gsm_modem#Serving_Cell_Information_.282.2C1.29
my FR is currently using 900 MHz. I'll see if that changes if I go
somewhere else.

internal flash (on which there is FSO M4.1) and used to boot nicely on
the SD card (at least with the previous milestone). I fetched both a
tarball [1] of M5 and a kernel [2]. I expanded the tarball in
/media/mmcblk0p2/ (as it is mounted on M4.1) after making sure the
said filesystem was empty. I then moved my freshly downloaded kernel
image into /media/card/uImage.bin (should be the first partition of
the SD card, IIRC).

From there, I both tried to boot the SD card from the NAND and NOR
menus, and each time it ends up being unable to write anything on the
filesystem (eventually failing to launch X), which sounds pretty
similar to the Qi problem described here.

Would anyone have an idea on how to fix that? There should be a way to
explain uBoot how to deal with this, but I don't know it yet...

Thanks.

Re: [SHR] illume predictive keyboard is too slow

2009-02-04 Thread Laszlo KREKACS
Hi!

ok - so if a young person typed:
 Öt szép szűz
 it'd be:
 Ot szep szuz

((btw, the meaning of Öt szép szűz lány őrült írót nyúz is
Five virgins tire a crazy writer.
It is the hungarian synonym of The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog))

Yes, and in that specific case works.
(because none of the above words (Ot, szep, szuz) has a meaning in
hungarian language, so you can understand that example without
accent.)

But there are other cases, where it is not that clear:
ólt - pound (accusative)
ölt - he killed ...
olt - to graft

So when you see olt in the text you cant be sure it is olt, ólt
or ölt without analysing the whole sentence.

The german example is two-way conversion: ü - ue, ß - ss. You can
switch back and for
without losing additional information.

A simple word based dictionary is limited anyway for the hungarian
language, where you can create a word as long as this:
 elkelkáposztástalaníthatatlanságoskodásaitokért.

ugh. so its like german. compound words get created a lot by just stringing
multiple words together without a space. that's ok- as long as there arent a
 massive set of them... :)

But there are. Because this language is agglutinative.
I explain a bit the difficulty.

In german you can create the following word:
wood [en] - Holz [de] - fa [hu]
house [en] - Haus [de] - ház [hu]

wood house [en] - Holzhaus [de] - faház [hu]

So you glued together house and wood in one word.
(this is your example: stringing together without space)

In german you can even create words of one verb plus a modifier, like:
to work [en], arbeiten [de], dolgoz [hu]
to ply [en], bearbeiten (be+arbeiten) [de], megdolgoz (meg+dolgoz) [hu]

It is the same process;) There are many example of this:
to link together[en], anschliessen (an+schliessen) [de] - összekapcsol
(össze+kapcsol) [hu],
to buy up [en], aufkaufen (auf+kaufen) - felvásárol (fel+vásárol) [hu]

But in hungarian language, we glue together everything, some example:
in house [en], im Haus [de], házban (ház+ban) [hu]
car [en], Wagen [de], kocsi [hu]
our car [en], unseren Wagen (unser+en Wagen) [de], kocsinkat
(kocsi+(u/ü)nk+(a/á/e/é)t) [hu]

So the possibilities are nearly infinite.
Without analysing the sentence and the word, you cant find the root
word with correct accent.

And finding the root word requires a spell checker (the best available
is hunspell for the hungarian language)

Summary:
- Losing the accents (in hungarian) most of the time results in contradiction.
- Need a spell checker to suggesting the right accented word.
(see: http://hunspell.sourceforge.net/)

So creating an architecture for spell checker is not a bad idea (for
future extensibility).
It could be handy for english too. But for other language (ex:
hungarian) maybe essential.

Sorry for being so tiresome.

Best regards,
 Khiraly

I zapped into this thread because it was only one new mail in the om-community

curious what that strange (hungarian) sentence has to do with om and found a
nice pack of information about your (?) language... Very interesting mail,

Yes it can work, but you need root=/dev/mtdblock...

Having rootfs mount ro initially is a safety feature, it'd be sad if we
have to take it out because the rootfs can't manage doing a mount
/dev/root / -oremount,rw in the initscripts.

QtE fails to build because it doesn´t find libdbus-1 (even though I´ve got

I'm just adding some patches and doing some cleaning on it, I'll update
the moredrivers kernels at http://people.openmoko.org/andy when I
checked we didn't break the threshold stuff.

Thanks, in the moredrivers kernel the accs are working now. But now I have the
following problems.

When I use Qi it says it is not able to set some permissions and then hangs in
Angstroem login screen and I can not SSH into it. I also tried this from the
mailing list:

Just create a textfile /boot/append-GTA02 and put whatever is needed as
kernel parameters in there - here is mine:
rw rootdelay=3 glamo_core.slow_memory=1

When I use U-boot I have to change the boot environment because it's bigger
than 2 MB. I do that the following way:
setenv bootargs ${bootargs_base} ${mtdparts}; nand read.e 0x3200 kernel;
bootm 0x3200

Then I would normally save the environment with saveenv but the system boots
immediately after the setenv command. So how can I save it?
Then it boots sucessfully but I can not ssh into the freerunner with message:
ssh: connect to host 192.168.0.202 port 22: No route to host

Any hint?

There are several known problems in 2.6.24 branch we won't fix that are

Hello, I think you are speaking about a alien for opkg :)
I don't know if exist a package for this.
The problem is not to convert a opkg in deb, is pretty standard. The
problem is to manage all the dependency.
The better solution is according me to maintain a list, in the wiki,
with a list of software present only as opkg, and one list of software

I think Navit must to be one of the first that need to be packaged,
because, with Tango Gps, are the only software to use in efficent way

We updated a few things and think we are ready to change the sec rev.
I also changed the setup.py a bit so it should be easier recognizable
what to do ;)

In essence, just click the icon on the desktop (there is only the
PLauncher) and that should open a launcher window.

Would be great if the rev could be set to:

Finally this made my day. I never had to do that before.

Assuming MS5 is similar to recent SHR this is because connman is taking over
management of the network interfaces, and trying to get an address for usb0
using dhcp. The settings in /etc/network/interfaces will be used if you use:
ifdown usb0
ifup usb0
I haven't tried using the connman dbus interface to set a static address yet,
but I guess that should work too.

2009-02-04 Thread Ed Kapitein
Hi,

Nice app, but not really functional for me. it picks the wrong note for
the string, so when playing a G the tuner hears a A.
And that seems to happen to other strings as well.
That might have to do with the harmonics created by my guitar.

is it possible to select manually which string you try to tune?
it could filter the input signal at that frequency and perhaps make
recognizing the correct tone easier.

It sure seems like a nice tool to have on my FR.
( perhaps someone wil create an app that will make me a fresh cup of
coffee every now and then, just to make life perfect ;-)

Thanks for the nice job so far!

Kind regards,

laszlo.krekacs.l...@gmail.com said:

 Hi!

ok - so if a young person typed:
  Öt szép szűz
  it'd be:
  Ot szep szuz

((btw, the meaning of Öt szép szűz lány őrült írót nyúz is
Five virgins tire a crazy writer.
It is the hungarian synonym of The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog))

Yes, and in that specific case works.
(because none of the above words (Ot, szep, szuz) has a meaning in
hungarian language, so you can understand that example without
 accent.)

But there are other cases, where it is not that clear:
 ólt - pound (accusative)
 ölt - he killed ...
 olt - to graft

sure.. maybe being an english speaker.. this doesn't bother me so much as
english is full of such words... 1 word can have 2 or 3 or even more very
different meanings. written the same way. only context lets you figure it out.
so to me i go so.. what's the problem? :)

So when you see olt in the text you cant be sure it is olt, ólt
or ölt without analysing the whole sentence.

The german example is two-way conversion: ü - ue, ß - ss. You can
 switch back and for
 without losing additional information.

yup. as i speak german i have been using it as an example :)

But in hungarian language, we glue together everything, some example:
in house [en], im Haus [de], házban (ház+ban) [hu]
car [en], Wagen [de], kocsi [hu]
our car [en], unseren Wagen (unser+en Wagen) [de],
 (kocsi+(u/ü)nk+(a/á/e/é)t) [hu]

So the possibilities are nearly infinite.
Without analysing the sentence and the word, you cant find the root
 word with correct accent.

oh dear. so you basically take the idea and run with it. nuts! like asian
langs... they dont even know what space is! :) (by asian i mean korean,
chinese, japanese).

But for other language (ex:
 hungarian) maybe essential.

originally i wanted to actually use aspell to do this... for the vkbd... but its
api just didnt cut it. i was wanting to re-use as much as possible, but
submitting the totally misspelt word on the kbd just doesnt get you results in a
spellchecker. (i hand created some and fed them to aspell to see what it did
and it just was useless). they are used to 1 or 2 errors of certain kinds
- maybe 3. but when every letter is totally wrong you need an exhaustive search
through permutations. :(

when kocsinkat is the word you wanted... but you actually typed
opdsomlsr ... try get a speller to fix that! interestingly enough at least
the english equivalenets: wanted foolhardy and i actually typed
gioljsefu... illume can and will correct it to foolhardy... probably as the
top or one of the top suggestions... whic is a far cry better than what aspell
can dream of doing. it DOEs have a limit that exactly the same number of chars
in the desired word need to exist as the matches - but for now, lets assume you
hit the kbd the right number of times and its really just screen/finger accuracy
fixing.

i can't begin to imagine the permutation searches needed for hungarian as
either you put all permutations in the dictionary of all words, (for german
it's doable - seemingly not for hungarian), or you need to start trying all
sorts of permutations of multiple words string together for matches... man
thats going to be nastiness. to be honest. i really can't see it being possible
to solve this without a lot of work. i don't have the bandwidth to go solving
every language

Re: [All] To build a better music player

2009-02-04 Thread Stefan Monnier
Before, mplayer took 40%-50% of cpu according to top.
Now, pythm-bin uses 48%-49% instead. This when playing stereo .ogg

Still sounds much too high. Even my home router (266MHz MIPS) decodes
.ogg with less than 30% of CPU. Usind `mpd', my FR shows significantly
less than 20% CPU decoding .ogg files (tho admittedly, these are 96Kb/s, so
maybe that helps). I haven't tried again recently (among other things
because the headphone output is so lousy), but there's no reason for it
to be higher than 20%, unless maybe there's some resampling going on, or
some floating-point software-mixer somewhere.
