I have had a case where I gone back to an older version, but it didn't worked any more and I didn't know, wich versions do fit together. risk of the user ;) I would only install packages with stuff like fonts, keyboards etc. and only if they are not available in the default repositories. let's keep it simple. Using a database repository in the net to update a local database of applications that may installable without problems per distro. 4.) If a user add's an application with opkg, a choice could be made to activate autoinstall for later switches. 5.) If the application isn't in the database on the net, or the local copy, add it but mark it as untested. 6.) The database could be used for a hitlist of installed applications that would really used, because a reinstall could be counted. 7.) Untested applications that should be installed, could be complained about and a choice could be made. 8.) Feedback if successfully installed application makes problems. The user should be asked some time later and he/she may make choices as of like this: 'App1 is usable', 'App2 has problems on this distro' and so forth. That way, we get feedback of the most used applications, we see the quality in the installability and we may spot conflicts. Next, if a distro decides to add an application as default, it could be marked as installed by that distro. This leads propably to an update process per distro and thus a local copy (if there will be really some for offline installations) could either removed any time - by asking or the app on the card could also get updated. Keep in mind that there are issues with the applications data. If this data is not at least backed up to sd card, a distro switch may kill your data :-) Also keep in mind, that users don't want to give that feedback. We don't do it like some companies do collect their statistical :-) It is not easy and I don't like to only create a quick hack, that would not work at all. Hi all There is the great project pimlico which provides dates = calendar and tasks. http://www.pimlico-project.org/dates.html These 2 apps are great because : * they use the evolution data storage way. As evolution has got tools to sync data with the syncml protocol, it must be easy to sync data * you can install dates and tasks on your desktop * they are user friendly, load fast and do the job correctly But * I cannot use them on my SHR because they are not in the repository. I tried the workaroung described here : http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Pimlico#SHR , but it does not always work. One time I broke my installation (Perhaps I did not get rid of the Angrom repo before doing an opkg update) -- Please test and report * There is at the moment no tool for syncing 2 ways. One you can do is copy the calendar.ics files (in ~/.evolution/calendar/local/system/calendar.ics ) from the desktop to the freerunner, and back, but it is not real synchro * The tool Pisi : http://www.opkg.org/package_191.html could be a good way to sync, but It does not support ics files yet * the project Pimlico is about to developp a synchronisation tool based on opensync, but I do not know when it will be out : http://www.pimlico-project.org/sync.html Anyway, I tried a lot of different calendar applications on debian based or SHR (dates, gpe-calendar, osmo, calcurse, etc.), and dates is the one I prefer. 2009/4/9 c_c cchan...@yahoo.com Hi, try the apps by knj - there's a google calendar app (should be adding other backends later), and an e-mail client, with support for imap Thanks - will try those. -- View this message in context: http://n2.nabble.com/Tasks-Client-for-FR-tp2609094p2609563.html Sent from the Openmoko Community mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

libevas Hebrew, Arabic and General RTL support (illume)
Hello, Just wanted you all to know that starting from today, there's is partial Hebrew and Arabic, and full right to left support in SHR. Ainulindale was kind enough to add a patch I sent him for libevas to the SHR repos, so starting from the next image, this will be built-in. (Of course also available as packages). As for e in general, well the patch has been sent to raster, which will apply it to e when he can. What's there: * Full RTL support, RTL renders correctly and not in reverse like it used to. * Arabic letters are now changed according to context (I tried my best, and gfather said it's fine, though since I don't know Arabic, I didn't do proper QA) * Hebrew nikkud and Arabic vowels work as well. What's missing: * Selection of doesn't work on text that includes RTL. * Cursor position is off with text that includes RTL. * No arabic keyboard available (gfather is working on that one). Now it's time for you to start nationalizing applications and SHR/FSO/Any other distro that uses illume. Enjoy, Tom. Re: [SHR,FSO] Serenity theme for illume
Joel Newkirk wrote: I know it's been a few weeks since I said I was going to try to get this out, I apologize. I've released what is essentially an alpha test for the Serenity theme, therefore named serenity-0.2. It's incomplete, and may be broken in some ways I've not seen yet. Comments/criticisms/advice on structural and functional aspects are welcome, those on visual style should be limited to points of inconsistency with the rest of the theme or problems like scaling. (specifically, if you don't like the look of the theme that's fine, but don't bother with comments like I don't like dark themes or what-not - the point is to present the theme to those interested, and hopefully discuss improvements/fixes, not take a poll of the appeal) Note that this is just an Illume/Enlightenment theme, NOT Elementary or any specific apps. (like Paroli, Zhone, SHR phonegui-efl) I'm working on those as well, however. I use it currently with SHR-unstable and FSO-MS5.1. You can download it from http://newkirk.us/om/serenity-0.2.tar.gz and extract - it opens to a folder named serenity, which contains usr/share/enlightenment/data/themes/serenity.edj and usr/share/enlightenment/data/config/serenity folder holding a few files. Copy themes/serenity.edj and the config/serenity folder to /usr/share/enlightement, then you can select it in Illume Settings under Look-Theme, select 'System' at the top-left to see themes installed globally. (/usr/share/...) NOTE: Wallpaper and Theme, at least, may segfault if you are using Software_16 rendering. Once I'm satisfied that it doesn't break anything, and all the main elements are rethemed, I'll release it as an ipk. (of course, at any time if someone wants to they can extract the serenity.edj file and have their way with it - anyone who wants to enhance or alter it in any way is free to do so, so long as 'simple' alterations like changing some images files retain a credit that the new theme is based on Serenity by Joel Newkirk - 'major alterations' or extraction of some portion of Serenity to use in another theme is fine without attribution) What I'm doing: Start with Illume and default themes (anything not defined in illume.edj will 'fall through' to default.edj, like battery and clock) basically renaming illume as serenity, and merge more groups up from default (battery, clock, desktop icon, etc) then work to simplify the structure (graphically and visually - most significantly, making icons two images instead of about eight images each) and shift toward the desired visual appearance. Ordinary buttons are translucent white, though on the black default background they appear grey. Selected/pressed buttons are an 'openmoko-orange' tinted rendition of the same translucent button image. Icons are just icon image at rest, are translucent white when highlighted by keyboard or mouseover (IE dragging on FR) and translucent orange when clicked/tapped. Battery applet is the green one from Illume, but narrower. Tapping it displays the battery percentage and time overlay. GSM applet is the same as Illume but colorized red/yellow/green based on signal quality, with carrier name above signal. Clock applet is more heavily altered, displaying digital time with date below it. Keyboard has been visually/structurally simplified - removing two transparent overlays from each key - resulting in (for me at least) significantly faster keyboard response. (and About:Theme is reworked, though you can only see it if you enable the 'Start' Top Shelf Gadget, then select Enlightenment-Theme from the menu - the animation there is one I've used for splash and busy screens as well, but the FR doesn't seem to have sufficient horsepower to do that without noticeably slowing load times, so I axed them - eventually I may end up with a 'pretty' and a 'functional' version of the theme) Still to do: Several components (like keyboard suggestion popup, tasklist) are still black-text-on-grey-gradient, will be changing to light-on-black. Some visual elements (like left-right arrows on top bar) are still IMHO pretty ugly with software_16, which I hope to fix. I'm hoping within a couple weeks or so to have finished at least the structural/composition changes, resulting in a leaner and faster theme that can easily have any/all images altered to result in a completely different yet still leaner/faster theme. I've also worked on theming Elementary, Zhone, and SHR's telephony GUIs, (just looked at Paroli so far) but haven't yet seen any way to do so without overwriting the original files - which of course is a no-no, being subject to reversion whenever the package owning them is updated. (Can anyone tell me a 'right' way to override them? Does it require rewritten apps that explicitly support theme selection or something?) For those unaware, a .edj file is essentially an archive containing one or more .edc (text)

Perhaps you could clarify what you think counts as development to an already released product (GTA02). -- Rask Ingemann Lambertsen Danish law requires addresses in e-mail to be logged and stored for a year ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community Slashdotted again: Openmoko Phone Not Dead After All http://mobile.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/04/09/220244 Andrés Calderón Cel: +57 (300) 275 3666 Email: andres.calde...@emqbit.com Web:www.emqbit.com ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Could you take a look at this - or point me in a direction that tells me how to go about changing the library being used. This will really help. Thanks. yes, it's an option at configure time, for mplayer i'm recompiling an updated package just now, let you know when it'll be ready enjoy (and test ;P): (r29155) http://www.paultt.org/downloads/openmoko/index.html PS i forced usage of tremor for ogg and libmad for mp3 ;) PaulTT, Forgive me, but could you please describe the differences between the various r29155 versions of mplayer you have listed on your site. As well, when I run your version (r29155-4.1.2-tremor-low currently) I receive the following error: mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libspeex.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Am I missing any specific dependencies for your version of mplayer? Re: Intone (0.24) Elementary based mplayer frontend
Hi, I have experienced an only black page when running intone while I was upgrading packages. This might be related to the elementary theme default.edj. After upgrading, things are back to normal - except that I cant see text in entry boxes anymore. Any Ideas? Oh - and paroli gives me an error that it wants to replace default.edj owned by elementary theme. Is that related by any chance? I'm using FSO 5.1 - but my feeds point to openmoko.org/unstable. -- View this message in context: http://n2.nabble.com/Intone-%280.20---alpha-release%29-Elementary-based-mplayer-frontend-tp2587826p2614319.html Sent from the Openmoko Community mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
