Does a particular model of invisibleSHIELD fit FR or you had to cut an
 oversized one to shape?

There is an invisibleSHIELD model made just for the Freerunner:

http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/openmoko-neo-freerunner-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php

Price is $25 for full-body, $12 for just the screen. However, Zagg
almost always has 20% off coupons available, if you're willing to
spend a bit of timing searching the net.

We had some of those at fix-party in Barcelona (first Fix party). As
you are doing the fix in a hurry, you could short-circuit some of the

Check the circuit diagram carefully and you see a short circuit (i'm sure).

He was kind enough to draw some icons to paroli and made some .svg file,
from what we could autogenerate the images to paroli.

Sadly I lost the link, and now, I would really like incorporate his

would be nice testbed application for this.

(Where we design the gui completely in inkscape.)

So please drop me an email or jump to the irc.

Currently there are a few glitches:

You can just disable ISO8859-1 conversion for unknown original media
format (ie: ID3v1 or other formats that do not specify an encoding in
the tag or standard). You can change it using cnl-prefs-set or
 terra-prefs-set -c /etc/canola.conf, or patch
canolad/src/canolad/prefs.py to not include that. For per-user
 changes:

    cnl-set-prefs canolad charsets '[]'

will replace the old list that contains ISO-8859-1 with nothing and no
 fallback will be used.

I have tried it and it works, but there is one problem: It would be
nice to set the charset automatically after package was installed in
postinst, but canola creates the user settings not until first start,
so the settings set in postinst are going to be overwritten.

So is there actually a way to automatically set the charset in
postinst when there are no user settings at that moment?

This should be an external file with default data, but since it's
not (at least yet) you'll have to patch that src/canolad/prefs.py
file. No big deal, it should not change often, if it do probably will
be to include a defaults file. That is: patch that file :-)

If we do a simple theme optimization it can be bit faster. I'm doing
this for a ProFUSION demo we're about to release videos, but we cannot
release the images or the theme itself. If there are manpower
interested in creating so, let me know... I can even help with code
(.edc), just don't have the time/skills to produce neat graphics.
Also, it would be amazing to have a canola themed to match SHR.

Again, this is of my interest and I can allocate my time or an
employee to help with such task to optimize, but we need a designer to
 produce the images.

It would be really great if you could adapt the UI to fit the
resolution of FR and optimize it in speed. I think canola is a really
great application and has a cool plug-in architecture with a huge
 potential.

But do you know someone to do the graphics?

yes, that's on our long todo list to optimize. The problem is that we
changed the way main screen works and instead of loading 3-4 simple

Probably we'll revert the main screen to contain category-apps

[SHR] roaming problem

Hi,

I'm using SHR testing in Spain. Last week I wento to Italy and my sim was not
able to register, and in the screen it showed SOS only. I put the sim in
another mobile and it worked. Then I put the sim back into the Freerunner it
worked also.

When I came back to Spain, i had again the same problem, with the SOS only
message. I did the same: put the sim in another mobile and back into the
Freerunner, and it worked. But of course I think it's not a good solution,
because is needed another mobile to travel abroad with the Freerunner.

I don't know if it's related but I tried to go to Settings - Phone and click
on Operators button, and it said Please wait... for a while but did nothing,

yeah, thumbnailer was missing. I have created now a package and
uploaded it to the repository. It works for me now ;)

There are other fixes as well:
* canola-daemon does not depend on glibc-gconv-iso any more. fallback
to this charset was removed from default settings
* Gustavo suggested rotating UI to landscape. I made a patch and
uploaded a new canola package.

Update and upgrade your packages and tell me your feedback please ;)
Especially what do you think about automatically rotating to

use a number you have access to instead (your landline, from your office,

I'm just wondering... What would like to redesign? IMHO it would be enough to
scale down the current track information and the position slider a little bit.
The menus etc are looking nice in landscape mode and I don't see any reason
why not use canola in landscape mode as it is a full-screen application
 anyways.

You can make a custom look feel that follows SHR's, and also improve
sizes to be better with FR form factor (bigger icons, specially for
side actions like play/pause/next/previous).

It's my plan, ATT GoPhone. I pay a dollar for any day I use the phone.
After that, mobile-to-mobile is free and mobile-to-landline costs 10¢/min.
If the telemarketer is the only call I have that day, they cost me a dollar.
Otherwise, it's just 10¢.

If I scann the whole collection, canola fails on some files,

But now I'm stuck in a directory containig these files:
01 - Alchemist.ogg 07 - Dreaming of Flying.ogg

03 - Citadel.ogg 09 - Mont St Joseph.ogg
04 - Crystal Cavern.ogg 10 - Mystic River.ogg
05 - Desert Village.ogg 11 - Snowflakes.ogg
06 - Dire News.ogg
On the Gui the counter increases to 3 scanned files, and then canola stops
scanning.
Does anybody have an idea, why canola fails?
canola -vvv doesn't give any hints.

Before starting canola execute following on the console on FR: canolad

This starts the canola daemon in verbose mode and logs to

I have asked this before but the thread seems to have fizzled.

I have a GTA02 V5 one of the first group purchases into Australia and
I would like to know if anyone in Australia is planning a buzz fix
party or if there is somewhere overseas I can send my Freerunner to
 get fixed.

I do not have the equipment or expertize to do it myself. Any
 recommendations welcome.

You can send it to sdgsystems.com.
You first purchase the freerunner audio quality enhancement on the
website. This costs $0 plus postage.
Their postage price is around $AU100 sent by international
courier. If you ask, they will sent it be USPS and credit you
the difference. I asked for USPS first class which according to

http://ircalc.usps.gov/

is about $US11.
It cost me $AU16 to post it from .au to .us.

Howto get a specific kernel from kernel repository?

2009-06-15 Thread Shaz
Dear lists,

I want kernel 2.6.26-rc8 or 2.6.30 onwards for my development work on
OpenMoko. If it cannot be checked out then is there some way that I
can move around with patches to get there?

Some help will be appreciated because I am not well versed with git or
patch management. Even if some quick readings/tutorials are pointed
out that will be good too.

Re: How to get started with Openmoko phone?

2009-06-15 Thread Mikhail Umorin
Just FYI

  1) Is there any particular kind of wireless carrier (in US) I need to
  subscribe to?

Any that use a SIM card. So ATT or T-Mobile. (I use ATT just fine)

Slightly off. It also needs to be a GSM network. Right now, that's only
 ATT T-Mobile for the US.

I tried both t-mobile and att pre-paid phones. t-mobile sold me just a SIM
card ($20 in store, $7 online), att sold me with a phone ($20 cheapest, with
3G card). Both worked fine. To keep an old cell number one has to sign up for
a contract.

i'm fairly sure that is marketing BS. afaik, there is nothing required
to keep an old number.

Well, when the salesperson tells you that they will not transfer the phone
number unless you sign up for a contract there's not much you can do... At
least, that's what I got.

Re: [shr-unstable] packages for canola media player

2009-06-15 Thread ykstortnilats

Just found out that using software_16_x11 will corrupt my traditional Chinese
font in the artist field.

software_16_x11:

Also I think that change the engine to software_16_x11 is still not fast
enough to make the animation smooth:)
