A little late due to personal circumstances but this is now committed
to the OE repo.

I need a PDA that will work as reliably as possble, have a few options

Phone not essential.

I don't need it to be open, non-evil, etc. I just need it's
shortcomings to be outweighed by the ease of backup and sync it has
over a Hipster PDA (Notebook and Pen).

What about a Palm III? I just looked on ebay and saw one for 5$. They
are dead reliable and sync issues should be no problem on mac or linux.
If you just need something to get by with until moko comes out, you
could do worse. If you get beyond just contacts, notes, to do, and
calendar, there are tons of applications out there to choose from.

Neo1973 advanced kit for sale

2007-12-17 Thread Jan Dittmer

Hi,

I don't know if that's the appropriate place, but probably at least

some interested people may hang out around here. To make a

long story short: I'm selling my Neo1973 advanced kit (from the

first delivery). I rarely used and hacked on it due to time constraints.

So if anyone is interested to buy it, preferably in germany, with all

taxes payed and full accessoires, as listed on the shop page, drop

me an email. Original and current price is 450$ device + 80$ shipping /

1.4 $/eur * 1.19 tax = ca. 450 eur. I ask 350 eur for it including

shipping

in Europe. Anyone interested? The device is in good overall condition.

I'd also sell only the phone without extras for 250 eur.

Palm III? Dead reliable, sync and etc have long since been worked out.
Cheap. I just searched on ebay and found one for 5$. Has all the basic
features a PDA should have. Get one and hang on to it until the moko
comes out in a couple (?) months.

I agree. Palm III really set the standard for ease of use in many
ways - instant-on, hardly ever crashes, one pair of AAA's last for
weeks. And the sync software for Linux works well.

Personally I don't carry one anymore, ever since I started carrying a
cell phone, and I have had Linux phones for a while now. But you
could get a Treo, or one of those old Kyocera Palm phones on ebay, if
you also want phone functionality. But I don't have experience with
them.

The Motorola A1200 isn't bad, it's what I use now, but there's hardly
any add-on software for it, and for Palm there is a lot. But the
A1200 will probably be running an open Linux distro eventually (a few
people have already put OpenMoko on it).

Re: Toolchain alpha release

2007-12-17 Thread Steven **
I tried this out. I can build the sample, but then what do I do? The
instructions talk about making an ipkg and scp-ing it to my Neo. But
I don't have a Neo yet... Can I test an app without the hardware?

 Hi,

 Please check

 http://downloads.openmoko.org/toolchains/openmoko-x86_64-arm-linux-gnueabi-toolchain.tar.bz2

It's the alpha release of a lean toolchain built on debian lenny,
x86_64. The source of openmoko-sample2 is included so you could
compile and install it on your neo. The tarball must be extracted to
 '/' , and please read /usr/local/openmoko/arm/README .

As the name suggests, it's really in alpha stage, so please give your
 feedback/ flame. Thanks!

The wiki page http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Toolchain is not updated
yet since we got (temporary ?) connection problems here in Taipei.

I'd like to know whether you can boot up the openmoko system or not,

After replacing dash with bash, it worked fine till the end (I started
the build process from the beginning). After all I think that if you
want to build openmoko apps for x86, the instructions at
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Getting_OpenMoko_working_on_host_with_Xoo
are better suited for this purpose (faster and lighter).
