Re: Wiki outdated ? was Re: Problems building ASU image

2008-09-13 Thread Didier Ptitjes
Believe me or not: A fresh new Makefile in a correct ~moko home.

$ make setup
$ make setup-machine-freerunner

Edit build/conf/local.conf

MACHINE = x86
DISTRO = openmoko
BUILD_ARCH = i686
INHERIT += devshell
TARGET_FPU =

$ make image

does the unable to open local.conf error.

Add INHERIT += rm_work and this will work. As I don't yet understand
all of the toolchain and building process, I can't explain why!

I can't show now as I added the INHERIT += rm_work and I'm building
an image.

Best regards, Didier.

Do you mean x86 as a host, or x86 as a target. x86 as a target is not
supported, and x86 as a host is what everyone uses, so you can assume that
 that works.

BTW the makefile process is great. I used Gentoo daily so I like it. I
would suggest to add a x/n numbering for packages selected to be
 build, as does emerge.

MokoMakefile just sets up an environment and then calls bitbake. Numbering
of packages selected to be built is the domain of bitbake.

Re: DFUScript v0.1 - Script to help flashing

2008-09-13 Thread Shawn prjktdtnt Thompson
Minh,
I am aware of Dale's work but if you have multiple devices that
support DFU then the gui will error out. I have seen the UI and it does
look very promising. I may stop using my script and go back to Dale's
gui when it supports the ability to select a specific device. I am kind
of a CLI enthusiast because I type much faster than I can click, which
is good when you've only got 30 seconds to issue a command.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will add the link now.

FDOM and such

2008-09-13 Thread Linus Gasser
Hi list,

I finally managed to download the FDOM 20080909 here in Tchad - over a
128kbps line this takes some time ;) After fighting with the device and
suppressing the old debian from the MicroSD-card, it kind of runs nice.
So here are my first impressions:

- Delete OMView - I don't see the idea of this file-browser. On my phone
it shows a very small font and I don't get it anyway
- Delete the installer at the bottom of the display - it's useless and
takes away space
- Suspend/Resume doesn't work reliably. Reading the list I tried
   * starting with external power attached - it works
   * starting without external power attached - it doesn't
well, I tried only 2 times, so this might not be statistically
conclusive. Anybody else sees the same thing?
- SSH not working - I have to restart it by hand. I'm looking into this one
- MicroSD corruption - I got bitten by this one. But I can't recall
whether it's the FDOM or the Debian I had on it.

Besides that, I changed the main SIM-card again to the NEO, I'll try it
again as my main phone. And phypt rocks! You just need the keyboard to
restart levels and such.

Thanks,

ineiti

Will next releases available by repository or something else ?

2008-09-13 Thread David Samblas
Hi Yann
I strongly recomend you to allways flash the last release because I
perform some manual adjustements that will be not updated through opkg
update/ugrade
If you are using the first release 20080905 you should comment the
following lines in /etc/opkg.conf (I have missed to do so, fixed on the
following releases)

# Proxy Support
#option http_proxy http://192.168.0.200:6588
#option ftp_proxy ftp://192.168.0.200:21

But again I recomend you to download and flash the lastest, or install
in the sdcard , now I release a tar.gz file too to do so.

Re: Illume Theme and E native gold theme

2008-09-13 Thread Hendrik Siedelmann
Neil Caldwell wrote:
as far as i know (new to e17) every program can have its own .edj
(theme) file and OMView is one that does.

It's correct every application can have its own theme, but omview does
(or did) not. It would use the default ewl theme in
/usr/share/ewl/themes/e17.edj (ewl and etk are both toolkits using
the efl). As that was the native gold theme it would look bad. So I
created a simple incomplete theme to mimic illume, which was to be
placed instead of the default theme.

But looking at the downloads most people missed the theme. So in new
releases (r27) I included a stripped down ewl theme file which is
installed in /usr/share/ewl/themes/ewl_om.edj.
When the program gets started with --ewl-theme ewl_om like in the
desktop file it will use that theme.

So for omview simply download the newest version (see wiki). For other
applications check where they get their themes from (search for *.edj)
and then edit those themes, upload them to the wiki or get them
included in the default packages.

Did you read the ticket? The searchbar patch is already in stable, it's

So am I to understand that when they are packaging the config files they are
just not packaging them correctly? Because many of my config files get
overwritten without asking me anything when I do an opkg upgrade.

So they just need to fix the way they are packaging them?

Specifically, the one that comes to mind right now is 89qtopia because of

Come on Rod! this was only a gentle way to say i have some doubts about the
opinion of a such guru as you :)
Let's try to help Harald instead!

I finally got bitbake to compile navit_cvs editing
openembedded/packages/navit/navit_cvs.bb and commenting the line
DEFAULT_PREFERENCE = -1 as it seems a way to block a bb recipie ala gentoo
package.mask.

Howewer note that in the file openembedded/conf/distro/include
preferred-om-2008-versions.inc you have PREFERRED_VERSION_navit ?= 0.0.3,
this will be ignored if in your git tree there is no navit 0.0.3 recipie (as
in my case) and cvs version will be automatically selected.
If in your tree there is a 0.0.3 recipie, you cannot put in local.conf
PREFERRED_VERSION_navit ?= cvs, as this will be not recognized so 0.0.3
will be selected. I do not know if there is a special string to indicate
to use cvs/svn string, for this you should really ask to bb developers.
Actually the weirdness is that you have to comment all PREFERRED_VERSION you
have in your .conf files :)

Sim error: sim is missing

I type the PIN code and the result of SIM verifying is: sim is missing

Any suggesting?

issues have changed in the newest image.
I've got two minor requests:

Exec=omview /home/root/Documents

It'd save a little searching :)

- All my sms in the message app are doubled. Any hints on a fix for this?

And thanks a lot for the warning in the wiki about the qtopia issue. I

Re: milestone3 available in Debian

2008-09-13 Thread Fox Mulder
I updated my debian system to the new fs03 files and also
updated the kernel/modules to the newest one at [8] from 11-Sep-2008.

But now suspend doesn't work anymore. I thought that the fso
kernels are working together with zhone to support suspend like
the original installed fso2 kernel did with the old zhone (fso2)
version.

Another problem is, that i can't start the messages program for sms.
When i click the icon nothing happens. The dialer and contactlist
works without problems.

I looked at the zhone.log for more info about these problems. And
there are a few entrys which seems to indicate problems. I hope
somebody can help me clearify these messages.

The message at [1] comes straight at the start of zhone followed by [2],[3] and
[4]. The last message
at [4] is repeated at some time intervals. The debug message seems to indicate
that something with
the messagebook doesn't work but i don't know what. I tried to start the
contactlist and i get the
debug message [5] but when clicking the messages program i get no debug entry
in the log.

At [6] i tried to suspend with a short press of the power button which is
recognized but nothing happens.
After that i tried it again at [7] and hold the button a bit longer. Even after
that nothing happens
but in the log is an exception which maybe indicate why suspend didn't work. It
seems that the suspend
command over dbus get lost or something like this.

Can someone see what the problem could be with help of these messages?

If you need more information just say it and i log whatever you want to solve
this problem. :)

mmh usually, we would suggest to change a new SIM card with your
network provider. You can bring both SIM cards to the store, since you
said the oldest one can work well in OM2008.08.

also, you can use 'logread' to check what CME error code you got. Open a
terminal, then type 'logread'. it would display qtopia log information.

So am I to understand that when they are packaging the config files they are
just not packaging them correctly? Because many of my config files get
overwritten without asking me anything when I do an opkg upgrade.

So they just need to fix the way they are packaging them?

Specifically, the one that comes to mind right now is 89qtopia because of
 the gsm mux enhancement.

If you don't want to wait for people to get their packages straight,
you could push your configuration data into SVN (or the like), and
then use it to track changes. Overwrites on conflicting settings
should show up as merge conflicts after an 'svn merge'. All changed
files will show up in 'svn status'.

Just commit before running opkg when you have it the way you like.
Use tags to denote which configurations you liked :-)

Tray gsm strength indication app

2008-09-13 Thread J. Domburg

Hi all,

I created a small tray app to show the GSM strength, in order to alleviate
the lack of indicators in the new zhone, and the absence of illume in
Debian. Perhaps any of you find it useful.

It can be retrieved at
http://meuk.spritesserver.nl/matchbox-tray-gsm/matchbox-tray-gsm-0.1.tgz
(that archive both has source and a compiled binary in it.) It only
depends
on libmb, glib and libdbus-glib.

I'm planning on incorporating more info in the app (network provider etc)
but atm it's totally unclear how I should get arrays (a{sv}) from the dbus
to my program using the glib dbus bindings. If anyone knows, please tell
me.

2008-09-13 Thread Christoph Siegenthaler

I extracted 89qtopia from the tar.gz image of the newest FDOM Image. Sorry
that I didn't think of that before whining around on the ML. FDOM really
rocks!

I now installed tangogps on my laptop and use the freerunner as its GPS
source while plugged in - that's quite fun :-)

Re: MonoMakefile: how to build navit-svn instead of navit-0.0.4 ?

Come on Rod! this was only a gentle way to say i have some doubts about
the opinion of a such guru as you :)
Let's try to help Harald instead!

The two things are separate. Suspected bugs in the documentation for
bitbake should be reported to the bitbake developers.

Help for Harald continues on this list ...

I finally got bitbake to compile navit_cvs editing
 openembedded/packages/navit/navit_cvs.bb http://navit_cvs.bb and
commenting the line DEFAULT_PREFERENCE = -1 as it seems a way to block
a bb recipie ala gentoo package.mask.

Yes, any bitbake recipe that has not had sufficient testing is usually added
with DEFAULT_PREFERENCE = -1 so that it doesn't break existing builds.

Once it has had sufficient testing, it's fixed CVS revision should be added
to sane-srcrevs.inc or sane-srcdates.inc

Howewer note that in the file openembedded/conf/distro/include
 preferred-om-2008-versions.inc you have PREFERRED_VERSION_navit ?=
0.0.3, this will be ignored if in your git tree there is no navit
0.0.3 recipie (as in my case) and cvs version will be automatically
 selected.

Yep, that means that whoever updated the navit recipe version in OE (which
could easily be someone who doesn't use and knows nothing about Openmoko)
didn't modify that file. That's quite common, since OpenEmbedded supports
hundreds of different devices, of which the Openmoko phones are just one.

If in your tree there is a 0.0.3 recipie, you cannot put in local.conf
PREFERRED_VERSION_navit ?= cvs, as this will be not recognized so
0.0.3 will be selected. I do not know if there is a special string to
indicate to use cvs/svn string, for this you should really ask to bb
 developers.

I don't know the answer to that either.

Yes, this is the problem that Openmoko due to their decision to let versions
float with regard to packages like this. It means that breakage like this
happens all the time and stays broken until someone notices it.

 Patches should be removed.

There is a notation to identify that patches should only be applied up to a
maximum revision, however since git has no ordering of revisions I doubt
that will help.

Should I raise a bug in the openmoko or openembedded bugtracker ?

Openmoko, since you're building an org.openmoko.* branch.

import/export sms from qtopia

2008-09-13 Thread Vikas Saurabh
Hi,

I had to reflash my 2008.8 installation. I wanted to keep the data so I
backed the home directory.
Now, I have an up and satisfactorily working image.

I want to import the data (specifically sent and received sms'es) in the old
image.

I tried to search wiki for qtmail, sms, etc but didn't find anything useful.

Can it be done?

--Vikas

PS: On a similar note, I was planning to switch to FSO, but again I want to
keep the sms'es, would that be possible?

Re: QtGps for Trolltechs Qtopia

2008-09-13 Thread Radek Bartoň
Dne Saturday 13 of September 2008 22:47:38 Abdelrazak Younes napsal(a):

I was thinking of kml support too so that your track and way points can
be loaded in Google Earth. KML files are pretty easy to generate. But I
don't think this kind of format conversion have a place in a GUI app.
The GUI app could OTOH call some external process to do the conversion.

There are plans to add more features to this app, either by me or another
person who has cloned the tree, he will be working on it in a few weeks I
  think.

Concerning tracking format I thought that basic file format shoud be storage
effective binary format. I would prefer standardized one but I don't know
which one yet. Then conversion scripts to any other format can be easily
written or gpsbable can be utilized. There could be designed even abstact
inteface for loggers/output devices now but it can be implemented by
different file format handlers lately.

If you talk about me I will certainly do but I don't have the time right
 now...

I'm quite sure that that person is me because I post Moris my proposals
recently.

Adding tracks is definitely something he is planning to do.

That's true. I've been on a trip with my Neo recently and I reveal many
usefull features which can be implemented and which no available GPS
application for Neo has for now. I'll sumarize them somewhere soon and then
I'll start to implement them sequentially.

 I stumbled across this:
 http://www.medieninf.de/qmapcontrol/

It could be a good idea to just use that instead of borowing TangoGPS
 code for openstreetmap support.

I'll investigate that possibility closely too but I'm quite sceptic about this
project clearness and design effectivness. SlippyMap tile download and
display is quite easy to implement so I think it can be done from scratch (or
extracted from TangoGPS). Only difficulties would be dealing with multiple
threads. I've already written Python script for maps pre-download for
TangoGPS similar to gpsfetchmap.pl (it is not publicly available yet) and
there is nothing complicated about that.

update-alternatives question

2008-09-13 Thread Joel Newkirk
Quick question, hopefully someone can instantly see my error:

I've built the full iproute2 toolset, and am working on an ipk/opk for ip
and tc.

The default om2008 at least, has /bin/ip linked to /bin/busybox. So that
should be changed. For inspiration, I looked at the postinst script for
grep, since it must perform the same changes. (point at full bin instead
of busybox in postinst, restore in prerm) So I took the
update-alternatives line from grep's postinst and simply replaced 'grep'
with 'ip' everywhere.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/ip ip ip.ip 100
update-alternatives: Error: cannot register alternative ip to /usr/bin/ip
since it is already registered to /bin/ip

Isn't this the point of update-alternatives - to allow multiple possible
binaries, and 'register' the one with highest priority? What have I done
wrong? And why is the path component grep.grep (or in my case ip.ip)??

I checked and /usr/lib/opkg/alternatives/ip and
/usr/lib/opkg/alternatives/grep are the same - busybox 50.
