Huh? This never happened to me before, and I make calls of 16 minutes and so. This needs investigating, but believe me: I'm not the most knowledgeable guy on qtextended :-) What exact version of kernel/rootfs/extra modules/phone do you have? Also: enable the power logging and mail that output to the list. Btw: I don't seem able to change anything related to Call Forwarding or Call Waiting, this is probably another bug in the qtextended code that needs to be tracked down. Hi list And what about just sort of a black ribbon put around the freerunner, like a hat or a crown 2 or 3 centimeters high ? We leave the bottom of the freerunner (the ring part) free, so that the hand can easily access the touchscreen. As on said, your head provide shade (protect from the glade of the sky) and the black ribbon will protect from the light coming on the edges. You have to reboot twice to get ssh to work: once after the install, that will configure all modules and stuff, the second boot the system will be able to find the usb0 device and launch ssh on it. This solution seem easy to implement, without having to do hardware hacking but I think that the issue of LCD screen connected to the USB port sounds a bit too much for the USB 1.1 and the memory bus capabilities of the Neo, don't you agree? That's the reason I felt really curious about how implement the Marcus' idea. A size increase of the Neo would attrack a lot of people (I believe) but I don't see how to get it. At the beginning I imagine what for me could be and excellent idea for plan B (we already know that it is another device, not a mobile phone) and it is really close to what we are doing now. I imagine that a wonderful product for the Neo community far from the GTA03 (difficult to implement nowadays) would be a set of hardware mods that would improve the initial design of the Neo. This way, maybe, we could find a workarround to some problems like the memory bus limitations or to the glamo, and why not a screen size improvement would be really hot too. Another asset to this idea is to make use of the other components of the Neo, and not to waste them as it would have happened with GTA03. Hi Franky, yesterday I installed a completely new system according to your instructions. Because I didn't get any USB connection (seems to be a windows problem) I tried different rootfs images. Currently I'm running MS5.1. I have found two problems so far: 1. The date can not be set through the GUI. 2. When receiving a call, the name is not found in the address book and the number of the caller seems to be only displayed if it is stored on the SIM-card (not address book). Example: I tried calling myself from my home-landline (number not in FreeRunner) and it just showed Unknown. In my office I repeated this and it showed Unknown but as number Roland/bp - which is how it is stored on the SIM-card. One question: Do you recommend using qi or uboot? Or do both just work fine? [shr-unstable] connman as central connection manager?
Hi all! first, congratulations to the shr team! I think it is in a really useful state. My question is now, I am not that satisfied with the Mofi application to connect to wifi networks. I found that there is connman [1] available in the package repository. Is it planned in the future to use connman as a central connection manager in shr? There is also an Enlightenment shelf gadget for the connection manager, which gives an Enlightenment Error (SIGABRT) on loading though. I read somewhere that the API changed and the Enlightenment shelf gagdet needs to be adapted to the new API, is this correct? Thanks for any clarifications! Some ThinkPad X200 Tablets have similar AFFS+ screens of the same manufacturer if you want to see it in action. my X200 Tablet is unviewable in sun. standard CFFL backlight. i guess the LED is stronger? i use my Astak / Jinke / Hanlin ebook reader in the same sunlight, but refresh is pretty slow however i think a lot of applications could deal with eInk display refresh speeds next round of readers from said companies is looking to include GSM modems.. phone anyone? However - I have no idea if it would be possible to connect it to the Glamo. If the resolution is too high, there are also 4 with WQVGA available. Not all X200 tablets come with the AFFS+ screens, I think the cheapest one (non-multitouch, non-LED) has a transmissive SIPS panel (good panel, but for indoor-use only). Hello everyone. 1) How many of you would be interested in the following hardware mods: * sunlight readable LCD * bigger LCD 3,5+ * new ruggedized case or rubber shell (including a mean to nicely fix in on a bike?) * waterproof (substaintially more costs) I would like to have those features but Neo Freerunner is just a smartphone. Hacking it this way would be too much costly. There should be two different types of devices developped and supported from OM core team from scratch. One a smartphone with Wi-Fi, BT, GPS, GMS, etc. as Neo is and second device a portable GPS with no additional technologies but with low battery consumption and sunlight readable LDC. BTW: I'm considering to buy and use with Neo Freerunner such [1] hub dynamo but 165€ seem too much for me. Do you know about similar device but somehow cheaper? Another problem is that I'm not able to develop converter from 6V/3W to USB. Is there any skilled electroengineer who can desing such circuit? If you run KDE4, can't you run firefox or OpenOffice ? The choice for a standard graphical librairy make sense for the OS, but the OS shouldn't forbid you to use any application you want. Obviously, the intergration is better when application are mainly coded with native libs, but, if we are making a choice between GTK or QT... the debate is the same.. my QT apps won't be integrated as well as GTK's ones on a GTK environment and vice versa. Is it very difficult to implement this in paroli ? This is part of oeventsd which is part of the framework, on SHR as well as OM2009. I hope you can see that, although this may seem like nitpicking, there is more then just freedom to do with the hardware as you please. I've used debian and it worked, although screen locking was not implemented yet and most of the functionality is placed in an applet which is not at all finger friendly, but ok. I did an update (apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade) and that destroyed my xsession configuration and left me with only a terminal. That is when I decided to try switching back to the main stream and try to at least start using it as a phone. In doing that I was so disappointed by it that I couldn't help but start this thread. As most have pointed out, I'll probably be heading back because this is what freedom is all about (as soon as the next FSO milestone is reached I'll probably give it another try). In theory this sounds like a good idea, but I think in practice the scrollbars would have to be accessible in the middle of the screen. Because the OpenMoko screen has an edge around it[1], using the edges of the screen means pushing your finger inside a 90* corner and sliding it. Not something I would want to do in every day use I think. I think it may probably be best to not have any functionality at the sides of the screen (in the area half a finger wide around the edges). But that is just my 2cents. Maybe there is a VNC server which already has this functionality and you can test it out by running a VNC server and use a VNC client with that functionality to try it? Saying it is designed for handheld devices still sound to me like focusing on reimplementing something specially for a kind/set of devices. Instead of the much more productive (IMHO) molding technology into a handheld. I still can't get around the feeling that using e is like re-inventing the wheel for a smaller car. In the end you want something that works in the same way the user expects it to. Although e has a history of ecstatically pleasing features, I never found it any good to work with. I always found it to be cool but never usable (much like wobbly windows in compiz). Maybe then I will never really get the decision, but if you would like to elaborate even further, please consider doing so. As for SHR you mention, I didn't want to try SHR because the wiki[1] states: GSM network is lost after one day of uptime: restart your FR once a day! in the list of known issues. True, I expected to like the Freerunner as a phone and thought the whole freedom would just be an added bonus. If the phone isn't that good, I could always fix small bugs and help out. However, it turns out that I can't understand the direction the mainstream development is going, and with this small community, the bugs in other distributions are not small at all. So I seem have to make a choice: put in allot of time, or stick with a product that I can't understand. The last option is just to sell the thing before the value drops to much and buy something else. As you say, choices had to be made and this is it. I don't think I'm closer to understanding the reasoning behind choosing for e, but maybe this is just an opinion, and we should leave it at that. In the meantime I think I'll just have to reset my expectations, and decide what I want to do with this phone. Thank you for your reply. Hi all, I'm running qtextended improved as explained by Franky in the post [QtExtended] Latest and greatest, progress mail 7; I need to import my contacts (from vcf formats) in order to use it as a daily phone and to make some test. I'm trying to use the addressbook command as reported in the openmoko wiki but I got the following error: /opt/Trolltech/Qtopia/bin/addressbook: error while loading shared libraries: libqtopiaphone.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory any suggestiones? Thanks before launching the addressbook command: export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/Trolltech/Qtopia/lib Or, more for normal users: copy the vcf file into a subdir called /home/root/Documents (or in /media/card/Documents), start the Documents app and do a Rescan system. After that, the vcf file is visible and you can just click on it from within qtextended. But I don't know how to auto-lauch Paroli. I've tried to do something like for zhone (i.e. a file in /etc/X11/XSession.d/) but it doesn't work. Paroli is running, but without displaying anything. 2) How to stop/start Paroli? I'm not sure if it it was the same problem as mentioned in the wiki, but I've experienced something similar with the latest (as of some weeks ago) SHR Testing, GSM died on me every now and then, usually after a number of phone calls/SMS messages, and usually more often than just once a day. On the bright side, I didn't have any problems after upgrading to SHR unstable. Hi, really nice. It works really stable here. But what I can't understand is, why paroli. What about zhone? What I mean, what is the advantage of paroli? It's not the look ;-) In zhone it's more intuitive to switch profiles, you have a lock and it also works without fullscreen. In paroli the dialer gets cut if not in fullscreen. It's really nice to have a stable phone, but now with paroli in fullscreen it's only a phone. That's what you can buy at every discounter for 25 Euro or the like ;-) What are the plans for future om-Release? Paroli without fullscreen or with posibility to switch? zhone? SHR? So I experimented with a knife inserted in the slot and then swiped along the crack and it worked well. I can now do it easily with a fingernail always inserted at the same place just below the Power button, and never need to endanger the clips as the cover once loose lifts away. The cover has not worked loose, (and my fingernails are delicate). The insertion point shows no sign of damage on the black one and if I look very hard a tiny bit on the orange one. Dear friends, I saw in eBay a 6-in-1 SIM card, they say that it can store up to 6 SIM in the chip. Is it possible to have 6 active phone numbers in one device using this card? Some how you should transfer each SIM information to this special card. Is it possible to copy one SIM into another?
