I'm not sure if anyone has ever tried this. I thought it would be handy to

you can do left click, right click, and any other mouse buttons you want. It
should be useful for apps unsuited for finger use.

Yes, that's expected, due to two reasons:
* I did not do much work on optimizing this code yet, there's debug statements
in etc. I will take care about that soon.
* Eventually, fso-abyss should not run as an own process doing the forward
virtual serial lines over pty thing to ppp, but rather as a library handling
the data from the virtual serial lines directly. This would reduce a bunch of
turnarounds and copies. It's a lot more work to make this happen though.
Ideally, we'd have multiplexing in kernel, of course...

Thanks for testing!

Re: touchpad on OM

2009-07-22 Thread Michal Brzozowski
2009/7/21 Petr Vanek van...@penguin.cz

This is not the problem. If you want to simulate a drag, you need to
have the pointer where the drag takes place. But at the same time
you're touching the touchscreen and thus moving the pointer under your
finger. With clicking this is not a problem, because the pointer is
moved to the place where you wanted to click just for a moment.

no worries, if i really need to drag something, i connect vnc

I could implement dragging this way: first move the pointer to the position
where you want to begin drag. Press a begin drag button, and it leaves
some kind of marker there. Then move the pointer to where you want to finish
drag, press a button again, and a drag event is generated for these
positions. I'm just brainstorming, if you really need such awkward feature
let me know.

if you are root you don't need the password to su as a normal user.
the problem is that if you don't set up a password for the root user this
method is useless because one could in some way run a script from the
browser taking the root privileges.

Is this the final solution? Please post here your reports.

Since about 5 days I'm using my #1024 fixed device as my main phone
(before I only used it with my test SIM) and so far stability is pretty
good. I measured standby time (GSM on, phone in suspend) of around 140h
which makes the Freerunner much more comfortable to use in my opinion.
While increasing the capacitance does work to solve #1024 the actual
problem is that the capacitor is not integrated in the regulator
feedback loop (iirc). So while it's not the correct solution it's
probably the best you can do without another hardware revision.

It talks to FSO to request WiFi activation, FSO will turn on the WiFi.
If your WiFi manager requests the WiFi resource directly to FSO you do
not need to activate the WiFi in paroli.

none of the gui's ever got me a connection.
it's working fine now after doing it manually
a 1000 times and finally wrapping that up in
a shell script today.

How it works manually depends on your setup.

If you're not using wep or wpa (like i dont),
its basicly a combination of the right
/etc/network/interfaces, ifup, ifdown (and
iwconfig to speed it up). ifup should call
udhcpc for you. iwlist is your friend, too.

if you are using wep or wpa, i guess you'd
need to write a wpa_supplicant.

All that is described here
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Wireless_Networking

except for how to exactly set up
/etc/network/interfaces.
I figured that out by reading examples...

Indeed, it wasnt easy. For me.

There are a lot of GUI WiFi managers available.

I did some WiFi brainstorming for a while, however often WiFi does not
work out of the box on the freerunner, see some considerations on
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/WiFi_Managers

If you are lucky this may work for you, but be aware of it pre-pre-pre
alpha status and bad inclination from the author to complete or

Hello,

It would be really useful for possible helpers if you prefixed your
subject with the distribution you are using, for example [Om2009] or
[SHR].

I use a full body invisible shield on mine and it works great!
See:

You can just get a screen protector from them as well if you want.

Haven't had any of the problems you are describing recentlyI used to
back with ASU/2008 releases

Re: om2009 activating wifi

2009-07-22 Thread pike
Hi

Is there a way to request WiFi activation from
FSO straight from the command line ?

Yes, if you search the archive you'll find some mdbus or dbus-send
examples, or as saied you may use fsoraw.

Sorry, I found none. I'm sure I just dont
really know what I'm looking for.

Anyway, mdbus helped me out:
alltogether this is my way to
get wifi from scratch that doesnt
die every 20 secs :

 # keep the screen alive
 mdbus -s org.freesmartphone.ousaged /org/freesmartphone/Usage \
 org.freesmartphone.Usage.SetResourcePolicy \
 Display enabled

 # power up wifi
 mdbus -s org.freesmartphone.odeviced \
 /org/freesmartphone/Device/PowerControl/WiFi \
 org.freesmartphone.Device.PowerControl.SetPower True

 # bounce eth0
 ifdown eth0; ifup eth0

  # more custom stuff

thanks,

Better then using the headjack on the phone.

I recommend Jabra BT3030 as it charge over usb, can
be paired with 2 devices at once, lets you use your
favourite headphones, have buttons, etc.

 Thank you in advance,

RE: Intone 0.60 Almost Stable ;-)

2009-07-22 Thread c_c

Hi,
Intone now rejects a second keypress if it happens within 150ms of the
first one and prints that out too - just so it's clear.

Staley, Daniel L wrote:

It looks to me like the error occurs after I used the previous key, and
then tried the play/pause key. When that happened intone gui shows on the
play/pause toggle button a play button (when it should be a pause) and
just keeps on playing the song.

Ok. Gotcha! That was a timer issue. Should be fixed now. I'm starting a
new thread for bluetooth usage - that binary also has this fix.
 Thanks for the report.

Intone binary (to test bluetooth headset issues)

2009-07-22 Thread c_c

Hi,
I thought it would be best if I could keep all the bluetooth headset and
control keys (AVRCP) issues in one thread for future reference.
  I'm posting a binary that :-

1. rejects a second play/pause press (happens on at least one headset
automatically) if it happens with 150ms of the first one
2. prints out when it rejects the second play/pause key press
3. is more tolerant to the bluetooth blips
4. should recover automatically from broken connections with bluetooth
headsets and play from speakers
5. Automatically insmod's 'uinput' for the AVRCP keypress detection
6. Switches on bluetooth on selecting bluetooth streaming

It also fixes the Pause not working after pressing back key (5 secs from
beginning of song) pointed out by Staley, Daniel L.

I request all users who have any feedback to mention the following :-
1. headset model
2. whether the keys works or not
3. any peculiarities (like the Plantronics Voyager 855 that sends 2 presses
for play/pause)
4. any other keys that need support (vol +/- etc) and their scan codes. To
get the scan code run intone from the terminal. It will print a message like
keyname-Keycode-171,Keycode-171. Please post the message here.
5. anything else that you feel is relevant and helpful for debugging etc

Thanks
