fsomixer crushes

2009-09-18 Thread Mikhail Umorin
Hello --

I am trying to use fsomixer [1,2] to adjust headset output volume. When not
in call the program runs. However, when launching the app when in call (the
way it's supposed to be used), it crashes with Volume.log:

Error Information:
An exit code of 1 was returned from /usr/bin/fsomixer.py.

Output Data:
There was no output

Error Logs:
There was no error message

the _init() function misspelling in __init__.py is not an issue -- i checked.

Also, there is a label Bypass but the slider seems to be covered by the
Save button -- is this correct?

Can someone help?

Mikhail.

i've got a server with unlimited bandwidth (if limited means if you have a 50
mb file and a bandwidth with 100mb, then just 2 users could download it per
month, as example.. i'm not shure if i understand it the right way..)

so this one could be used. my problem is just that i've got not so much RAM
(300 mb), and there's a mailserver (sendmail + dovecot), a apache, a mysql-
server and some little things working. so if a lot of users would have access
to the page, it could be very slow.

but i fixed this for most by using phpeaccelerator.

so if the server is usable for you (could be used for free!), contact me..

RE: Phonelog: missed call NULL name and number

2009-09-18 Thread Niels Heyvaert

 - Why is the number/name equal to NULL?

 NULL means hidden number.

Kind of expected that one :-)

A programmer can understand this, obviously, but from an end user
perspective it is not very meaningful. Could we replace NULL by
 something
self explanatory like [Hidden number] or [No caller ID] or [Private
 number]...?

So long as it's done by the app at runtime. The daemon shouldn't storing
 things in a language-specific way.

Indeed, totally agree. Any application owner reading this who's willing to
 apply the suggested change?

It's already possible, just edit your ~/.phonelog/phonelog.conf

Thanks, just changed my phonelog.conf and it now shows up with the alternative
text. Good stuff.

Could we perhaps change the default phonelog.conf to another more meaninful
value? Just for ease of use. And maybe, in addition, add a line or two on the

It depends on what features you know about/need ;)

Comparing with btrfs [1], with ext2/3 (and the upcoming ext4 [2], which is not
more than another patch over ext2) you can't do:

- object level data mirroring
- Subvolumes and snapshots
- fs level raid
- online fsck
- fsck 1 TB filesystem on less than a couple of days ;)
- Never run out of inodes. ext4 still (we're on 2009!) suffers from this one :(
- Online FS growth and shrinking
- FS level compression
- Online defrag (*)
- Tail packing (*)
- And much more

(*) also supported by ext4, but not ext2/3

Although many of that features are useles for devices like Freerunner, some
other would make a difference: dynamic inode allocation, tail packing, fast
and online fsck...
And reiserfs is the closest to btrfs we have on OM kernel :)

What is true is that kernel developers are making clear that ext4 is not the
future fs, but the interim fs until btrfs makes stable

root partition, or another one? remember you need the kernel in ext2/3 or fat

SHR-U: More Adventures with Wifi

2009-09-18 Thread John Dowd
I'm now trying to just run the Neo with no Wifi encryption (the AP doesn't
like something about the Neo's WPA handshake... next weeks problem) and with a
static IP address (the Neo's dhcp client s/w doesn't like something about the
DHCPOFFER message from the AP... next month's problem).

So I have the following in the interface file under /etc/network:

# Wired or wireless interfaces
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
address 192.168.1.20
network 192.168.1.0
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
up route del default gw 192.168.0.200

And here is the contents of the wpa_supplicant.conf file:

ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=0
eapol_version=1
ap_scan=1
fast_reauth=1

# Open:
network={
 ssid=Asterisk
 key_mgmt=NONE
 priority=80
}

Now, when the Neo boots, it appears that the wpa_supplicant.conf file does get
accessed and the AP can be seen allowing it into the network. However, once
the Wifi part is done the default route through the usb0 interface is still
there. The last line up route del default gw 192.168.0.200 does not have any
effect and, the usb cable is not even plugged in but when I use the Neo's
terminal to look at the route table, there's the default route which I believe
confuses the TCP/IP stack on the Neo and I can't shell into it (I have read
the Wifi page about Neo and have done the subsequent mods.).

Has anyone been able to get the Neo to setup properly for Wifi access at boot?

Cheers!!

Thanks Anton,

Yea qtopiagps is more of a testing app, and requires GPSD as the Whereabouts
API in Qt does not
provide satellite info. It is easy enough to start and stop gpsd from the app,
but as you say out of
the box that won;t work as the configuration file needs to be modified.

One solution is for me to eliminate gpsd, and talk directly to the chip as
qtpedometer does, but
that is not the right way to do it either as you can only have one gps app
running.

I think the long term solution is to copy FSO, and use DBUS.

What do you think?

Nope. according to that page, putting a file named noboot-GTA02 in the /boot
directory on a partition makes Qi skip that parttion in the boot process.
This semms to be true - if I put that file on p2 (partition 2) of my SD
card, Qi doesn't boot that partition.
Unfortunately, it doesn't boot p3 (partition 3) either. AFAICT, p3 has the
layout and the files necessary to boot from (it is a copy of a working set
of files from p2).
Why Qi doesn't want to boot it, I don't know.
Is anybody able to select which partition to boot (on a SD card) by using
the noboot-GTA02 file?

I, for one, still haven't found a way to make Qi boot from SD

How is the layout of your SD card, partition-wise?
Mine (a 2GB sd card) is like this:
p1, vfat, 792 MB - I use this for data, it is mounted as /media/card
p2, ext3, 500 MB - this is my main os, root partition
p3, ext3, 500 MB - this is another os, for testing purposes (ths is the one
that Qi don't want to boot)
p4, swap, 128 MB - this is a swap partition, needed in some cases

or in fdisk 'p' output:
Disk /dev/mmcblk0: 1967 MB, 1967128576 bytes
57 heads, 56 sectors/track, 1203 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 3192 * 512 = 1634304 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/mmcblk0p1 6941203 8139606 FAT16
/dev/mmcblk0p2 1 307 489944 83 Linux
/dev/mmcblk0p3 308 614 489972 83 Linux
/dev/mmcblk0p4 615 693 126084 82 Linux swap /
Solaris

The kernel lives in /boot, øike this:
r...@neo:/root# ls -l /boot
total 1844
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 36 Aug 4 14:50 append-GTA02
-rw-r--r-- 1 1000 1000 1877860 Sep 8 23:10 uImage-GTA02.bin

Following hte name standard is necessary for this to work.

With this layout, p1 is skipped and p2 is automatically booted whenever I
turn on my FreeRunner with a short press of the power button. Note: it will
taake 2 minutes or more before anything shows on the screen if you use
QtMoko. Qi doesn't output anything unless told to do so.

Note (from the Qi wiki page) that Qi will not boot from fat partitions, if
that's what your are trying to do.

QtMoko / QT Extended / Qtopia addressbook: a better import tool than VCF?

2009-09-18 Thread Torfinn Ingolfsen
Hello,

It seems like (from information found on qtopia.net) that the addressbook in
Qtopia / QT Extended / QtMoko confirns to the Vcard 2.1 standard when it
comes tom import and export.
Unfortunately, this means that it will not import my current addressbook
(comverted from cvs to vcf) without loosing detail, and getting names in a
format I don't like.

So, has anybody made a better import tool for the addressbook?
Something that can import directly from csv perhaps?

I havent looked at neither whereabouts nor GPSD api, but i think it
would be nice if we could support both of them. So that qtopia apps can
use whereabouts api and X or some legacy applications can use gpsd at

It would mean, that whereabouts server has to open socket at the same

But it's just an idea :)

I'm using the script as an unprivileged user, having installed the toolchain

There are quite a few hardcoded references that
keep you from putting the toolchain where you
want it. See

grep -r '/usr/local/openmoko' /home/user/openmoko

for details. It's sufficient to set a symlink like

ln -s /home/user/openmoko /usr/local

which off course is quite ugly security-wise.

Actually the default built-in plugin for the Whereabouts API does use GPSD, and
if you run my app
with the parameter gpsd, it will use gpsd instead of opening the serial port
directly.

However GPSD has been deprecated in favor of ogpsd in FSO, which provides the

I don't think changing the Whereabouts API is an option, technically we could
do it for qtmoko, but
then any app written would only work on qtmoko and not other qtextended device.
Which defeats the
whole purpose of using Qt.

Jim Morris wrote:
I have checked in my very recent attempt to write a GPS based pedometer for
 Qtmoko.
 It is at http://github.com/wolfmanjm/qtpedometer

There is a serious accuracy problem with determining the distance traveled
during a trip.

I did some research, and there does not seem to be a consensus on how to do it,
and the GPS device
manufacturers obviously have proprietary solutions they do not disclose or
discuss.

All the open source programs I looked at do it the simple but very inaccurate
way I first tried.
They basically calculate the distance between successive fixes (segments) and
accumulate that as the
distance. This has about a 20%-50% error (estimated).

The next attempt I discovered on the web (and how I do it now) is
non-intuitive, but basically you
take the current speed, and multiply it by the delta time since the last
update. This is much more
accurate, but still accumulates errors even if you are standing still it
accumulates a small error.
It works really well when driving though, but for walking (and I suspect
biking), it is still
inaccurate.

Next I added a speed threshold, which you must go over before the distance will
accumulate, for
walking I set that to .4 miles per hour or 0.1788159993648455703 meters per
second.

This works well if you are standing still, as it does not accumulate any
distance, but it increased
the error significantly on a driving trip, when I compared the trip distance of
my cars GPS with my
version. I haven't tried a walking test yet.

So if anyone has any ideas how to make this more accurate I would welcome
suggestions.

Thanks
