Very nice.

Can someony please tell me how to get this app in the QtMoko feeds? (Radek?)
And of course I would like to upload the source to some git, qtmoko-apps on
 github? (Sektor?)

The simplest way is to create project on github. Then let me know and i
will add the app to qtmoko-apps as subproject and i can also build it
and upload to QtMoko feed.

Another way is to fork qtmoko-apps, add it there and i can merge it
back, but i think the solutioin with subprojects is better.

Wikireader looks awesome, and I think most interested question for all

 How to buy WikiReader?

Looks like amazon doesn't ship this device to all countries. (why?!).

It all comes down to price.  It's just too expensive for you (outside the
US) and we didn't think it was worth the rush.  Paying $85 USD for a $99
dollar device isn't exactly helpful.  We're working on getting more devices
and of course global shipping as well.  We'll definitely  post something
once that is available.  Stay tuned to hear from us within the next week.

Could you explain your view about delivery, and country statuses,
where you ship, and where not, and if not, when you will.

Right now we ship to US and Canada only.  Amazon didn't allow us to set
independent shipping rates for various countries.  It only offers a fixed
rate for 'outside US' and 'Asia'.  That would mean $85 to the UK and $85 to
 Mexico -- not fair.

As for me, it is interesting how to deliver this device to Belarus)

I'm just as interested at this point.. please stay tuned.

2009-10-14 Thread Michael 'Mickey' Lauer
Hi Alan,

On a related point freesmartphone.org seems to be using the old hackish
 3gpp ts07.10 user space code.

Correct, for systems which don't use premultiplexed drivers, we're
resorting to a userland muxer (not the gsm0710muxd though, but rather a
clean implementation based on other code). I'd love to see a kernel
muxer, really. While I don't think it makes a difference on GPRS, it
might improve system performance on EDGE or UMTS a lot.

I've got almost all of a kernel driver only
my AT+CMUX capable device has expired. Dunno if anyone is interested in
finishing the job (its basically written but not at all debugged and I
know the tx queueing needs work either to make it do all the priorities
right or just forget the the whole priority nightmare)

I think it'd be great if you could upload your code somewhere.

Alternatively does anyone know what cheaper EU devices support AT+CMUX,
it seems quite rare this side of the pond

Do you no longer have an Openmoko device? If not, I could arrange to
ship you one -- it may have problems, but at least the GSM would work.

Best regards,

Mickey.

the first few kilos should not have been touched when the battery was
suddenly removed...

Has anyone ever had that? I mean that an sdcard get's fubar-ed by a g-shock?

Very strange.. :S anyway, I'll try to boot some more the the 512MB

compared to the NAND? can I erase the NAND rootfs somehow?

Cheers,

My first impression of the device - it's a Palm IIIx with 1000 times

I have an electronic subscription to a couple of science-fiction
magazines which I currently read on my old Palm IIIx. It's showing its
age so I have been looking for a replacement for a while now. The
Wikireader (with its sunlight-readable screen and AAA batteries) would
fit this category as soon as an e-book reader application is available.
Some other PDA applications like a calculator and a memo pad would be
nice but I can live without them.

If/when an e-book application is developed, it would be nice to have an
SD-card image of the Project Gutenberg archive.

I also have a question - what happens to equations and graphs in
Wikipedia articles (e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bessel_functions)?
Are equations rendered graphically or are they only shown in markup
language? Are SVG images supported?

it rings: means that I hear the ring on the phone from I was calling (don't

[fso based] Resource Allocation

2009-10-14 Thread Boris Stender
Hi everyone!

I have some questions concerning the allocation of FSO resources:

1) If the Display resource is allocated (e.g. utilizing fsoraw + application)
the device will not suspend. Other resources (of course except CPU) do not
show this blocking effect. So why this special handling for Display?

Annotation: So the following excerpt of fsoraw -h seems to make no sense?!

...
examples:
 fsoraw --resources CPU,Display tangogps
...

2) If solely the CPU resource is requested I would except that the Display
will blank. This is not the case. Trying to have a pure GPS logger utilizing
fsoraw --resources CPU tangogps doesn't bring the expected result. For the
logger scenario a workaround for me was to enable screen-locking instead, but
of course with much higher energy drain than wanted, especially due to
unavoidable touchscreen presses inside my pocket.

Annotation: It seems that Neil Brown did some coding around this problem but I
haven't tested it on current SHR-U yet. Furthermore I think this non blanking
is a general problem (blame me if not).

http://neil.brown.name/blog/20090128025654

http://neil.brown.name/git?p=freerunner;a=blob;f=lock/lock.py;h=9adc658b7081572829f1fc3c866b58b257ccb280;hb=ceb0fdcd0dd60d8c5400bec58df7f0f901665bdc

3) Fsoraw from Nicola Ranaldo does a great job. Unfortunately, it does not
allow to make some resoure re-allocation for already running applications.
Sometimes it may be desired to switch allocation on the fly, without the need
to stop/start the program or without the need to override allocations from
settings menue. Would it make sense to have some kind of resource manager
instead of current fsoraw or should this be done within FSO?

4) One more point concerning Display allocation. For me there are three use
cases: a) display blanking (logger), b) display with auto-dimming (tangogps
while riding my bike) c) display always on (navit). Would it be feasible to
pimp fsoraw to have something like this:

ad a) fsoraw -r CPU tangogps
ad b) fsoraw -r CPU,DispDim tangogps
ad c) fsoraw -r CPU,DispNoDim navit

And as I am already writing to the community I've one more question concerning
#2^10

5) Why is ti_calypso_deep_sleep = never used by default on SHR instead of
auto? Is there a problem with the recamping detection algorithm/procedure?

Cheers,
Boris

It's not exactly reliable, especially given that while it will be
detecting recamping you might lose some calls already. Moreover, this
scheme doesn't work when the device is suspended which might give
especiall unpleasant surprises. If you want deep sleep, just do the
hardware fix, it's not that hard, i did myself two already.
