 Hi,
new stable qtmoko release v31 is now out. You can download images for SD
 card
and NAND flash from sourceforge [1] and sources from github [2].

QtMoko is distribution for Freerunner based on debian rootfs and qtopia
 phone
stack and GUI. For more info please see [3] and [4].

 Changes since previous version:

 - fixed invisible call button in finximod theme (Joif)
 - translated to French (Gregoire Juge)
 - updated Danish translation (Ole Carlsen)
 - better layout in docked keyboard
 - commented completion strip in docked keyboard
 - VT not switch to graphics which fixes X hang in VT_WAITACTIVE
 (Gennady+Me)
 - fix QX crash after pause/resume
 - using openssh-server instead of dropbear again

This is first stable release based on kernel 2.6.34. I think nearly all
regressions to andy-tracking 2.6.29 are fixed so i will tag last commit
 with
2.6.29 support and will merge 2.6.34 support in master.

Docked keyboard (the one suitable for terminal) is now much better. It has
same layout as in SHR, which means you will have cursor keys on main
 screen.
The completion strip was IMO quite useless and wasted only space so it's
 now
 disabled.

As for the VT fix (or hack ;-) it's now possible to use any X server with
 QX.
So you can install full xserver and use it instead of Xglamo which is
 default.

 So happy new year!

 Regards

 Radek

  working on v26.

not sure, make sure you set usb to host most in dev tools, if that's not it
maybe go to log level 8 and get some more detailed info about what's wrong?
You can do this in the kernel parameters in /boot/append or in QI just press
the power button after the second flash of the aux button

Hrabosh: I pressed the power button (a have v31 on the NAND memory, thus
not able to use /boot/append because Qi is not reading UBI FS .. right?)
and saw kernel messages scrolling down the screen- simmilar to what I
can see when my Linux computer is booting.

USB device (ethernet mode) works fine. If i switch the phone to USB host
mode (by running the script in dev tools), message in kernel log
appears:

[131.66] s3c2410: changing USB to host
[131.90] hub 1-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 2

- last line is repeated cca 10 times.

Ethernet mode is then not working (unless I run USB device mode from
dev tools), but FR is charging the battery if plugged to the
computer/charger. Devices, connected to FR's USB port, are not working
and seem not to be powered at all.

3/ Where am I to copy MP3 files to make MediaPlayer see them? I copied
  them to /media/card/Documents/audio/mpeg
and /home/root/Documents/audio/mpeg but still didn't see in MP. QMplayer
was able to find them on first scan, but only if there were no further
directories in /home/root/Documents/audio/mpeg. Is there a way how to
tell these programs where are my MP3s stored?

Go to software packages and download the mp3 codec, then execute the file
 that
shows up in applications. Suddenly media player will read mp3s in ~/Documents
(qtmokos ~/ which is /home/root not the debian /root)

Hrabosh: It works! Thanks! But media player seems not to be able to play
music fluently when phone is in use (reading SMS, using Arora... ) -
QMplayer is playing fluently no matter what you do with the phone.

4/ Does anyone know how to set FreeRunner to play music over bluetooth
audio stream? AFAIR it is called A2DP. Radio in my car is able to play
such stream so I'd like to use it.

You can add debian unstabled repos and see if there is anything there, I
 would
 be very surprised if not...

Hrabosh: There was such option in some player I had in SHR distribution.
You could choose whether to play using spekares or BT headset. I'll try
to google something more ...

5/ I'm going to replace 2.5 audio socket in FR by 3.5 socket - so I
could connect my headphones directly to FR. Did anyone try so?

Please document if you do this! I've lost the second earphones I got for this
(kindly given to me by my friend Brolin) and it's a real pain to find 2.5mm
 headphones here.

Hrabosh: OK, I'll let you know.

7/ Can I use MP3 files as ringtones?

Yes, see my re to 3

8/ Can I install ipk packages to QtMoko?

Not the ones built for SHR qtmokos got every debian package so something
should do what you're looking for.

9/ People I call with are complaining about bad sound quality. Did it
  happen to any of you?

 not yet...

I don't have any comment on v31 in general as I haven't tried it very
long yet. I though have some comment on the Danish translation as it
looks like some of the files doesn't get build, primarily those with
'Qtopia' in their name and I think there are some 7 files missing as I
did translate 88 but there are 'only' 81 in the folder.

I will probably do some testing now and return in the new year. :-)

Hi Tom. Android on FreeRunner is pretty new, as is Replicant on
FreeRunner.

QtMoko is fairly stable and responsive. It improves every release. I've
been using v26 for a while and was planning to install v31 later today.
One thing of note: qtmoko leaves contacts on the SIM which can be slow
(there is some local storage for numbers you have added on the phone
itself).

If you don't find QtMoko to your liking you can try out SHR or
Hackable::1, etc. There's some choice here - an amount that's very odd
for a phone. :)

I've been using my FreeRunner daily for about a year. The one that
drives me nuts is Bluetooth Disconnecting on Suspend, but the easiest
workaround for me is to leave the phone on the charger in the car (where
I actually need Bluetooth.)

And which version of android you tried? I think 2-4-2 (since September
probably) and FIFO depth (since something like Ferbruary 2010) improved
speed significantly, so may be worth trying newer version of android.

Hi, Tom,

Here QtMoko is instant.

The feeling of touchscreen is much better with .34's driver without
filtering, i never have that 'missing' clicks than i have to reclick
which were real pain (for me) on early openmoko.

I don't know if Radek supply Qi with 2-4-2, but i am using 2-4-2
bootloader, and in fact scrolling is smooth (except inital loading
pictures, but it's acceptable even in that moment) and response to
clicks is just ok.

Gennady.

The FreeRunner's USB port can be switched from device to host separately
on the data and power pins, so my guess is that you set its data pins to
host mode but left the power in device mode, which means that the FR
will not provide power via USB but will expect to pull power from it
instead (this is typically used together with a tweaked USB hub powered
