Now , I have put most of the projects detail of opkg.org introduction site at following link: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Applications So, I have taken off the opkg link of navigation box on Wiki. You will be able to use Application page to find many useful application for Neo. Feel free to use this page , and I continuously invite people to write their project introduction page for wiki. Re: Where can I find this game?
Can any body put this game's introduction page on wik? http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Applications That will be great. Brenda Aapo Rantalainen ??: I tested openTTD in last summer on my Debian freerunner. Then it needs one-mouse-button-patch, but I think it is now merged to official. (somewhere in options-menu). Game was playable, when TransportTycoon deluxe was released all monitors are 640x480. Network-multiplaying works. Sound effects works, midi-audio didn't work. Packaging it is hard, because it needs propriety-data-files. (ok, debian etc. has packed it) But they are making also gpl-ed data-files, I do not know how ready this project is. -Aapo Rantalainen ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
Re: OpenMooCow 0.2
Can I invite you to put this on wiki? Like other ? http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Applications#Games Brenda Thomas White ??: While waiting for the Christmas puddings to cook this afternoon, I've been making a few updates to OpenMooCow. You can get version 0.2 from the same place as before: http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~taw27/openmoko/openmoocow/ Changes since version 0.1 are: - Moos when tilted either up or down (not just after tilting both ways like before). This seems to be what people expect, even though it's not quite what I remember genuine mooboxes doing. - The packaging has been fixed to depend on the things it needs. - You can now press the cow to make her moo. - Mooing still occurs even if the graphics can't be shown. Run the following on a terminal and your Freerunner will be mooing until the next reboot: $ nohup openmoocow And some improvements under the hood: - It should behave a little better if the accelerometers are sticky. - Code simplified and altered to make it easier to add support for other types of accelerometer. OpenMooCow won't alter your accelerometer parameters in any way, so you might have a configuration which it doesn't like. In particular, the threshold setting can cause problems. If this happens to you, try this: # echo 0 /sys/devices/platform/lis302dl.2/threshold Comments or abuse to this address as ever, Tom ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

In contrast to that rumors and guessing is very popular here. :-) Marek PS: All that is a bit extreme but should you give a feeling. ;-) ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Thanks for the feed back. Also: Does the current wiki software allow for templates, like Wikipedia? Sorry if this is obvious - perhaps the Openmoko wiki uses exactly the same software as Wikipedia? For instance, sentences in many Wikipedia articles are marked with the words citation needed - I see from a little searching that this superscript is added when someone edits the page to include the tag {{cn}} or {{fact}}. Presumably there is a page automatically generated somewhere (I can't immediately find this) which shows all pages using that tag and this one can easily see all pages requiring fact-checking. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Fact I feel that a similar feature would be useful for the Openmoko wiki - it should probably display fact check? rather than citation needed and new users should be encouraged to mark any sections they are unsure of or any steps in the HOWTOs that don't work when they follow them. Likewise I think there should be a template for software entries which indicates which firmware images - ASU, 2007.2 c - the page applies to. Just as the Wikipedia entry for the Lotus Elise has an inset which states it to mid-engined and rear-wheel drive, each software page should say whether the article is *about* one of the core firmwares, whether it is steps that can be applied to firmwares FSO ASU (but not to 2007.2, because that one is incompatible with, say, gpsd) or whether it's software that can be *installed* on the FSO ASU images (but is preinstalled on 2007.2). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Elise Perhaps I'm horribly confused, but if my horrible confusion over the different images at least has the correct basis then this would be very beneficial to users. Make pages easy to find is always the first priority of wiki management. I agree with you . Openmoko wiki has thousands of pages, not easy to find everything. That said... Storing your MD5s will let you know *if* you are repeating a build. It will not (reasonably) let you repeat a build. You completely misunderstood what I said. Storing the file name, URL *and* its MD5 lets you be sure you are able to reproduce the build. And it's the only way you can (well, we actually use SHA's and RMD's in addition to MD5's). If I misunderstood it, I still do. MD5 absolutely will not help you reproduce a build. It will only help you verify that your procedure (whatever it is) retrieved the same files. It won't help you find the correct file if the file you got was wrong. It does not guarantee to build *exactly* the same binary, but you can *never ever* make that guarantee in general because of changes to shared libraries (in the Java world you have a greater chance, but even then, even the smallest point upgrade to the JDK could in theory change the generated .class files), so there is really no point whatever using MD5's on generated binaries. None. I have no idea why Hudson bothers, if that's what it's using them for. You need some way of identifying the file you want to build *to the revision control system* (so you can download that version) if you want repeatable builds. In the case I'm talking about - where there are about 5,000 different external programs from about 2,500 different sources - you don't even think about going to the revision control system (6 or 8 different services over 2,000 different hosts). You can ONLY think in terms of ftp/http download of version-numbered tarballs. Period. No, you MOSTLY think in terms of ftp/http download. For the projects on which you're doing work (at least) you absolutely go to the revision control system. Are we talking about the same thing? I'm talking about a repeatable build so I can do development work, modifying existing code. To do that, you'd better work with the revision control system. Even if you don't have submit access (which the vast majority of devs probably shouldn't have), in some cases you have a RCS that supports creating smart diffs that you can send to someone to review submit trivially (e.g. git or darcs) and in other cases you almost certainly want to submit a patch from the latest possible revision. MD5s sound nice to verify, if you don't trust your revision control system (or perhaps the admins ;-) See above for why revision control is completely irrelevant to us. Who is 'us'? Re: Our new Main page of wiki
Dear Steve: I notice that you edited the Main page of wiki. The wording is better then me. I like it. Thank you for doing this. But I don't understand why you took off the sentence below Join Openmoko development? And development board--QT2410? Can you tell me why? Actually , I know that our main page is too long. I would like to make whole wiki site become short and organized. But technically , I can't solve that problem in a very short time. I just used the Google Analytic to find out the most popular page , then I use the box, put the link all together. Use the aggressive color and put the categories page on side bar, to make pages easy to find. I also use the Google Analytic to find out the most popular browser, use the right tag, make sure most of them can use wiki more easily. I got a lot of feedback here. And now , Gismo is helping us to upgrade our wiki system. After wiki system had been upgraded , I would start to work on server site. For example , I would like to change the wiki skin. And page structure. I think I would need technical support. And I will ask anyone who can help me. Anyway, the real meaning of Wiki is collaboration. Thank for you help , and hope you can understand what I am doing now. Brenda And I like it. :-) steve ??: It's getting there. -Original Message- From: Carsten Haitzler (The Rasterman) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, May 02, 2008 8:15 PM To: steve Cc: 'List for Openmoko community discussion' Subject: Re: Our new Main page of wiki On Fri, 2 May 2008 17:13:06 -0700 steve [EMAIL PROTECTED] babbled: indeed - it's not bad. no complaints. just observation. :) we all have got lots of things to do... :) Yes, It is a bit long. And it always has been. Brenda is working the Structure of the site ( like Edward scissorshand trimming kudzu) and I told wolfgang I would do my marketing thing on the front page. I will of course make some suggestions on organization and structure ( you know me raster ) but for now, I will let it rest, as I have other matters to attend to. The current structure is rhapsodic and so is not easily maintained, especially as new products come out. So, I'll share some thoughts later. Have a look, I will probably polish it some more later on and add some of my writing from the .com. PS, Raster is right. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, May 02, 2008 12:55 AM To: community@lists.openmoko.org Cc: Carsten Haitzler (The Rasterman) Subject: Re: Our new Main page of wiki Am Fr 2. Sure - Brenda does not speak English as a native language. You are free to fix it up with your perfect English intuition. It is a wiki after all. Perhaps she might help you with your good, yet not so perfect chinese? :) Seriously. I have learnt several languages. I know how hard it is to speak a foreign language. It is damned hard. It's even harder when the language is of a completely different language school (i.e. European vs. Asian languages). The fact that someone can communicate as well as Brenda can, in a foreign language, is simply amazing. It is a mountain of work. Everyone should be as supportive as possible. It is no easy task. The fact that English is just the de-facto one for Open source, should not mean it has to be perfect and written by natives. If it can be understood then it has done a great job already. I clap my hands for Brenda and say keep going and thumbs up for making such a good job of it! ???! :) ACK! The new wiki-mainpage is way better than what it was before. Thanks Brenda! :-) /jOERG ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community -- Carsten
Re: Request for stable, automated build process
There are some documentation you can find on wiki. Here is the links. OpenEmbeded is used to make the distribution. BitBake is the useful command of OE, and being used to build and maintain a number of embedded Linux distributions. You can use this. Now, we mainly use this. http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/OpenEmbedded http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/BitBake You can use a prebuilt toolchain from the Openmoko project. Now Julien is work on this. We are contact with OE , so maybe few days later, we can have new release. http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Toolchain And from the page , about the MokoMakefile, MokoMakefile is developed by Rod Whitby /wiki/User:RodWhitby - it is not an official product of OpenMoko , you can also get information form this. http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/MokoMakefile#Requirements_for_building_Openmoko These page might be helpful . And it 's wiki. If you the information is too old , you can modify it . And we can work out the solution together. I've been asking for the toolchain to be fixed and updated and I believe Julian has this on his TODO list. Regards, Thomas Thanks for pointing that out. Does it apply a label to builds that succeed? Is there documentation of what this hypothetical label might be, and also documentation of the build process that buildhost.openmoko.org http://buildhost.openmoko.org uses? (Hrm, reading over that, it looks like I'm trying to be sarcastic with the thanks. I'm definitely not! The thanks, and the questions, are real, not rhetorical.) I should point out that if I knew the right way to run a build (I think there are three possible ways) and could actually get a build to go through at least once in a while, I would volunteer a server and the effort to set up continuous integration. My time is pretty restricted, so it might take me a fairly long time to get it all done, but I am willing to do the work if I can get answers to the basic questions.
