Are you hit by http://docs.openmoko.org/trac/ticket//2349 ?

Not likely - only possible with experimental version v25.

Please set proper suspend intervals in Settings-Power management: unplug
 the
phone from charger/PC and make sure you have On battery suspend interval
 set
to something reasonable (20s..5minutes - depends how you use your phone.).

Otherwise you phone can wake up (e.g. because call/SMS/alarm) and will
 never
 suspend again.

I think i will set some intervals right in the image for next version.

_to_ the correct nand partition, i.e. when flashing rootfs you should
use -a rootfs dfu-util switch. Other than that, it still worth trying

Phonelog uses calls backend of opimd. So everything is saved within

What date is your SHR-u from? I'm using one from August with some updates

I would advice to go to the latest unstable from 6 of September!

To those who don't know web-manager is my take on oshyrman, it's a web
interface to the freerunner (actually, to FSO infrastructure) and it
currently shows the GSM reception, GPX traces from tangogps, lists
contacts from opimd and lists messages from opimd.

I really suck at doing UIs and web UIs in particular, the RPC that I
implement is REST-like (I'm no puritan in that respect) and provides
JSON output to simple requests. The web interface is written in jQuery
and is really in need of some love. Anyone wants to take it to the next
level and actually use the full abilities of HTML/CSS/JS to make it a
 great interface?

I used it on Arch Linux and Ubuntu and I think it works on every distro as
well. Any changes, suggestions are welcome. Currently it's on spanish.

Note: The script is configured for SHR so it uses the eth1 interface not
 the usb0

We are interested in logging other things too, such as Wi-Fi.

We are working on a location service (we are talking with people from

We are also ready to log extra info people think might be useful, even

We are releasing improvements on a regular basis.

Its just FINE that you base your company in China.
China is worldwide a synonym of superior quality and most advanced

I wouldn't care about Sisvel. Let them try to sue you in ... China :) What
Sisvel 'defines' is useless and they know that. How may chinese companies

iPhone is WAY too expensive! A pure Mickey Mouse device.

What I would like to see from your product would be a about 150EUR one where
I can install by myself the needed s/w (OpenMoko style!) and use it as a
portable multimedia player - for the beginning! :)

In general is a NICE TRY and hope you'll release soon a ready to run device.

 Hi everyone,

comments from people have been used to build a new graphical interface!
I hope you will like it! The list of changes can be found below...

Thanks to mrmoku, Stefan Schmidt, and Sebastian Reichel, the packages
are available in SHR, FSO, Debian, etc feeds.
 opkg|apt-get install openbmap-logger !

 SUMMARY:

The purpose of this software is to log GSM data, together with
GPS coordinate. This data are sent to the website (www.openbmap.org),
in order to build a free database.

 Possible uses of this database:
 * get your location based on the current GSM cell you are connected to.
(GPS needs extra power to function, GSM is always on. Less precise
than GPS, but enough for a lot of usages. Instant location, GPS
needs time to get a fix.)
 * speed up GPS first time to fix by providing the location based
 on GSM data
 * etc.

 WHAT'S NEW SINCE 0.3.3?
 ===
 * New graphical interface!
 * Glade file path not hardcoded anymore.
 * Application logging level now in config file.
 * Added cells seen statistics.
 * Details in CHANGELOG.

 WHAT'S NEW SINCE 0.3.2?
 ===
The version number 0.3.3 has been used in logs uploaded to the server.
It was meant as a testing number for version 0.4.0 only.

 WARNING:

 * Please note that if you have your .openBmap folder located on your uSD
card, setting the application logging output level to debug seems to
make the logger take too much time for looping, thus rejecting the logs.
By default, the level is set to info, and works well.

 * Note that the application refused to launch after an upgrade of SHR.
This was because the GSM resource was not enabled. That means I had no
working GSM anyway. Try rebooting ;-)

Of course you can add your own gpe-scape.desktop which execute a shell

does this application work?

I installed it from the repository, it does start, I press on the rec

Also, the screenshots I saw in the wiki do not correspond to what I have

Initiate the call and then press the rec button as per the wiki. works on

did exactly that but I record silence. I get a wav file but no sound :(

When callrec was installed, I was getting messages that was trying to change

 Use the following one liner:

With an otherwise standard shr-u, its fine - if I dont reduce the volume

Try the call recorder on opkg.org. I used that one. Or mail Tom tom at

 performs the same function.

In my case sound is not corrupted, but 1/2 speed.
If you force mplayer to play at double speed, you'll get original sound:

 For example, with

 mplayer -speed 2 file.wav

 it sounds OK

If you force (without resampling) samplerate from 8 KHz to 16 KHz in
Audacity, you also obtain correct speed.

Might be they are 16 KHz samples with an incorrect 8 KHz header?

 Hope to be of help.

Thanks for your feedback.

I think I was a bit too quick with my answer! :)

Well, at least in Audacity, when you open the wav file, you get in the left
hand side a box with info like file name, sound quality, sample rate etc. On
top of that box there is a drop-down list where you can set different
parameters. I changed the 'Set Rate' entry to 16000Hz from 8000 Hz and
indeed works fine.

Hope the above description will be of a help to other users as well.

Can KMoney or something like that be installed on Openmoko? What

Would it be cheaper to buy the A6 from the Blowout Sale, and then

the A7 just the A6 with buzz fix? I'm confused on this point.

Thanks all. Thanks Sean. I just want to thank everyone that has

I'll not go into technical details but keep in mind that using the FR you
have to be prepared to live with an unstable environment! I never used
Blackberry (and I would never use it due to severe security risks!) but I
assume that the applications there do work!

Having that in mind, don't expect Openmoko to provide you with a 'turn key

Also, for every single settings menu, a separate icon gets created! Thus,

IIRC there's a missing dependency on dbus-x11 which provides the session

sorry but what's the name of that dependency? Can I install it via opkg?

[SHR] latest unstable with problems!

2009-04-03 Thread Tony Berth
Dear Group,

just tried the latest SHR unstable (both kernel and jffs) and found
following problems:

- when in the boot screen the device gets listed in my debian server as a
usb one but after booting it dissapears from the list! So can't access my FR
any more from my machine!
- tangoGPS still crashes when trying to change the settings :(
- when I place a call, I can't hear any sound that its ringing!

Any advice for the above issues?

Thanks

 Hi list,
this is a problem I've had since November 2008, passing through
 OM2008.08, OM2008.09 OM2008.12, Debian, SHR-unstable, SHR-testing, so I
could assume that it depends from uboot.

If I power up the neo pressing for (more or less) 8 seconds the power
button, the Openmoko orange black screen appears, and here it remains.

To start _any_ distribution I have to power it up in NAND and select
boot, and it makes difficult to power up the Neo in some situations
where I could use only one hand, for example while I'm driving car.

So, is there a way to configure Neo to start automatically SHR with
power button pression? SHR is flashed normally in the phone, and I use
uSD only for TangoGPS maps storage.

 Thanks :)

 Francesco de Virgilio

I have the same since I tried debian on it. I can remember that debian wiki
requested some changes the way FR boots and this is due to that. I was too
lazy though to search more in order to revoke those alternations!

argl, got it now. could it be that auto submit is turned off?

auto check only checks the cells but does not transmit them. only when
transmitting the data is beeing sent / stored in offline file.

you have to push: offline mode - auto submit - auto check

  Can't I upgrade from 0.9.5? Where can I find 0.9.3?

I am not sure. Google for somewhere to find it. Or pull it out of some
older roots. shr.bearstech.com has filesystems going back to jan-22.

I never tried changing settings on 0.9.5, so maybe it works there. Try!
I just know that it worked on even older versions, and then people
started complaining with v. 0.9.5 or so.

I jsut installed 0.9.6 into a SHR testing image, and couldn't change
settings. So I did it the easy way - I gave up and made a symlink from
/home/root/Maps to where I have the maps on the sdcard. Silly solution
 but works fine.

Any tip how to correct that?

Thanks

Install tangogps 0.9.3, edit settings, upgrade to 0.9.6 :-(

Actually, the folder for gps tracks can be edited
The map folder cannot, but that can be worked around using a symlink
 instead.

You might want to let the tangogps developer know too, it might get
fixed in the next version then.

 Helge Hafting

so the problem is within tangoGPS in that specific version? Nothing to do
with SHR?

Can't I upgrade from 0.9.5? Where can I find 0.9.3?

nop... you have to edit /usr/share/applications/tangogps.desktop and add

I decided to try SHR also. I like it. There's no echo! But there are
still some small problems, that are already mentioned in the other SHR
thread. And a few problems that aren't mentioned:
  1. If I activate the silent profile, the phone still rings.
  2. After using the phone few hours and making some calls the phone
doesn't ring anymore, it only vibrates. After rebooting it rings
  again.
  3. At some point, the phonelog application just stopped working. It
  doesn't start. I didn't do anything and I didn't change anything, I
just made a few phonecalls. When starting it, it gives me an error
saying, that there's no error message. When starting it from command
  line, it says:
TypeError: float() argument must be a string or a number
I thought rebooting wil fix this, but it didn't.

I tried to use gprs using Joel's instructions, but it gives me the error:
  ActivateContext failed: org.freesmartphone.GSM.MUX.NoChannel

Have you solved this? Or anybody else?

Posted a request in OpenMoko community list, but no answer. Seems like
nobody notices gprs not working in shr-testing or everybody has it
working or nobody uses gprs on shr-testing.

try SHR unstable. I think it works much better than 'testing'!

I had this, too, but not on the very latest version.
The alarm tries to play the wav file at

 /usr/share/elementary_alarm/sounds/phone.wav

I've made this directory and copied my file there.
You might also find a folder named (notice the hyphen):

 /usr/share/elementary-alarm/

you could rename it to the version with underscore:

 mv /usr/share/elementary-alarm/ /usr/share/elementary_alarm/

 or make a symlink:

 cd /usr/share; ln -s elementary-alarm elementary_alarm

 Cheers

I did rename that dir (elementary-alarm to elementary_alarm) but
didn't make the trick! Still no sound :(

 Yes, I use SHR unstable.

For a first install, I think there is no problem.
If a previous release of Neon was already installed,
it is perhaps neccessary to delete a file.
Can you look if the file /usr/bin/neon.pyo exists.

 If yes, remove it.

If it's not the case, can you send me the output error?

the 'neon.pyo' file doesn't exist at all and 'yes' I had the previous

When I click on the icon I just get the generic error screen 'Application

I think it's a problem with python versions.
 :

 ln -s /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/neon/
 /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/neon

This worked for me to launch neon, but it can't open any image.

This is a major feature enhancements release.

  Changes since 0.9.5.1:

  * Images can be now auto-rotated by images dimensions (not by EXIF
  data).
In other words, image is rotated if image's orientation is landscape.
A new command line option (-r, --auto-rotate) has been added to

  * Added timers to auto-hide image viewer navbar and toolbar.
A new command line option -d (--bars-disappear-delay) has been added to
adjust auto-hide delay of this new feature (disabled by default).
This feature is disabled if delay is 0.

  * Added the index of the image, the total number of images and the
image's size in addition of the image's name in the image viewer.

  * Added a slideshow functionnality.
A new command line option -s (--slideshow-delay) has been added to
adjust the interval (default 4 sec.).

  * Added images properties: dimension, size, EXIF metadata, ...
