New accelerometer application, that draws the current perpendicular line and angle

2009-03-02 Thread hab keen oh ne
Hi Community,
I
have recently written a little utility, that draws the perpendicular
line using the accelerometers. It is based upon SDL and SDL_ttf (for
drawing the angle). I hope you can enjoy it, I will soon release a
binary package.
Here the source code:
http://rabenfrost.net/openmoko/perpendicular-0.1.tar.bz2
It only contains a very ugly Makefile, I hope you can manage to compile it.
Greetings,
Martin Puffe.

Im sorry I havent tested, what version of SDL is actually necessary, I just
used the latest one provided by SHR. Just execute
opkg install libsdl-1.2-0 libsdl-ttf
opkg install http://www.opkg.org/packages/perpendicular_0.1_armv4t.ipk
-force-depends
in case your repo doesnt contain a current version. Should work with older
ones, too, I guess.
BTW: I would be glad if anyone came up with an idea for an icon(or even with an
icon), as Im not the expert in graphics and regularly fail in creating nice
stuff^^, because I will soon update to a version needing less resources(at the
moment, there is no idle time during the execution, it was just planned as a
little test app) and then it would be great to offer the ipk with a proper icon
for a .desktop file.

Just install them from openmoko repositories, then it works.
http://downloads.openmoko.org/repository/unstable/armv4t/ or
experimental one.

Btw. this app is really nice, I thought about some similar one -
instead of line, rolling ball. Maybe in some free time..

Multivast over USB?

2009-04-04 Thread hab keen oh ne
Hi,
Im currently working with multicast for my internship at a university. For
testing I tried to let my computer and the FR communicate multicasted over USB,
but it didnt work, my pc was unable to join the multicast group of the neo. Via
LAN it worked with another computer, same software, same settings. Any ideas? A
universitie's guy said, that probably Multicast isnt supported over USB, is
that right? Is there work going on so this will be implemented in the future,
some kind of cdc_ether2.0?

AW: Intone (0.20 - alpha release) Elementary based mplayer frontend

2009-04-05 Thread hab keen oh ne
Good job, really! Thanks to C much faster than pythm, besides Intone seems to
have more functions. Nevertheless, I would improve the look, its not really
cool compared to any iSoftware. Besides, I have experienced mplayer to be too
slow on the Freerunner. I you want to do more than only hear music, or click
any button, the music is corrupted. Under Debian Im using xmms with gxmms, and
it is much faster. I can even move windows and here music at the same time,
without any problems. Just an idea, maybe its not mplayer's but SHR's fault, I
dont know, just an idea.

Betreff: Intone (0.20 - alpha release) Elementary based mplayer frontend

Hi,
Well, it took a lot longer than I thought - but finally - here's the alpha
release of Intone - a mplayer frontend (for audio files - as of now) in C. Uses
about 2% CPU (max) while running - memory goes up depending on your playlist -
on my phone (~2500 songs) it uses about 15%.
All you need to do is download the attached ipk and install it. Intone
depends on sqlite3 and libelementary. If you have elementary on your phone
upgraded to a level where the elementary test application shows you a demo of
sliders and genlists, Intone should run on your phone.
The recommended way to organise music is to put all the files in a folder
(lets say Music), with sub folders named after artists (say Music -Eagles) and
with sub sub folders holding albums (that becomes Music-Eagles-Hell Freezes
Over-*.mp3). That way, Intone can correctly organise your music collection
into albums. It automatically creates a default playlist containing all songs
and individual playlists for each album. I have added features to manage
playlists and albums - but there is always scope for improvement.
Intone uses a sqlite database as a backend for the playlists and albums. That
should, hopefully, give flexibility in adding more features later.

Things that don't work as of now :-

1. Feedback. - I haven't been able to add dialogs yet. So - wait a little while
for Intone to finish long operations (like adding your music collection for the
first time - my 2500 odd songs took about 6 secs - the button remains pressed
too)
2. Dialogs for deleting stuff. It's safe - Intone does not delete any files -
but it does delete tables(albums and playlists) - and it doesn't yet ask for
confirmation.
3. Seek. Dont know how to use the slider for seeking. Any Ideas?
4. DBUS. - Haven't gotten around to learning edbus - so no occupy resouce CPU
or pause on incoming calls yet. Will take some more time.
5. Album art and lyrics. - Don't yet know the best way to go about doing this
other than downloading art from some retailers etc. Ideas welcome.
6. Toggle View. Not working yet. I intend having 2 more views - Album Art and
Lyrics.

I'm also looking at adding support for the button that the standard handsfree
has - as a volume control (3 preselcted levels in rotation) or to go to next
song (1 click) and prev song (2 clicks). Any suggestions?

Since I also have half a podcast manager built (which I couldn't finish in
time for the competition) - I'm also looking at adding that support in the
future.

  Feedback Required
1. Bug reports.
2. Artwork - Ideas / png's / whatever
3. Elementary help. I have a lot of questions. Here are a few :-
a) How do I reduce the vert height of 1 entry in the genlist? Right now
each line in the list is too high (almost 3 text lines high) - so I get only
about 4 song names on the screen. Can I reduce the height to say 1.5 text line
- 2 text line?
b) How do I use the pager with a genlist? In my case the pager works - but
it doesn't show the genlist - the buttons all show up though.
c) Dialogs and progress bars. I know elementary doesn't have them - but can
I make/have a simple ty solution for the time being?

Oh! And I'm only adding .oga, .mp3, .m4a and wma files into the albums. Any
other types I need to add?

I'll upload the code to intone.googlecode.com soon.
All feedback welcome. Thanks.

Over LAN it works. I bind the socket to all the interfaces. The relevant code
is attached. Bot_config is the client, that wants to join the Multicast group
of the server. As I said, this usually works in a not routed network, like via
WLAN, its just USB that sucks.

Do you use FR as your daily/primary phone?
Do you use FR as your primary PDA?

What distribution you run most of the time?

If you don't use FR as your daily phone/PDA, what phone did you change
over to, and why?

Thank you :)

New project openmokontrol

2010-01-04 Thread hab keen oh ne
Hi community,
I just published a new project called openmokontrol. Im using a TCP/IP
connection to any X server to control it with the fr's accelerometers, mainly
for games ;). Maybe I will create a video for a short demonstration soon, let's
see. It uses the X Test extension to send input events to the connected X
server. Try playing Live for Speed (www.lfs.net) with it, its awesome. Here
some links:
http://www.opkg.org/package_322.html
http://code.google.com/p/openmokontrol/
http://code.google.com/p/openmokontrol/wiki/Using
I didn't manage to install the ipk file on my SHR run freerunner, I always get
the following error:
*** glibc detected *** opkg: free(): invalid next size (normal): 0x00ba6500 ***
Aborted
I don't get the error when Im installing the package to my toolchain, so I
think it is SHR's problem, not the problem of a corrupted ipk file, is that
right? If not, Id appreciate hints how to get rid of this error.
Greetings, Martin.

You mean the mouse cursor? Tux racer can be controlled with mouse cursors?
If you mean the Up/Down keys, they should be controllable, too. Make sure the
usb port is upside, now you can bend it forwards, so the display is coming up.
Now the Up Key should be pressed. Bend it backwards and the Back key should
react.

the ipk look a bit suspicious to me but extracting manually did the
job, all is running well on shr-u. i don't know lfs but tux racer
(extreme tux racer - etracer in debian) was great for testing. :)

i think now it sends only left-right with arrows? later up/down for
speeding/slowing would be great too :)

I just replaced the ipk file, now it installs under SHR.
Just redownload it from google code or opkg.org.

Ofc, this is possible. But to implement this, I would have to know, which
action causes which event. Maybe it is best, if you tell me the specific
applicaton which is to be controlled? Perhaps it will turn out to be a
motivation for me...

It would be cool if it were used as a joystick. Can you make fake joystick

@ Gennady: normal mode just plays with the error keys. sys/time.h doesn't need
to be included when Im using my toolchain, For some reaseon some compilers need
it to be included and some don't, I have met a guy not able to compile it, too,
I've added this. Thanks for the hint with the Makefile. Just uploaded it to the
git server, not with the tarball...sry.
Besides: Im always glad about wishes, so if you think your ideas are remotely
compatible with openmokontrol, tell me about them, maybe we could work together.

Hi,
I'd also appreciate an Android-like Textbox input method, i.e. a great text box
should be shown whereas the rest of the page vanishes. What I hate about midori
is the fact that with toolbar and keyboard sometimes the textbox vanishes,
while eve supports no finger scrolling. Im looking forward to your work!
Greetings,

Hi,
Well, I was experimenting with webview in order to embed widgets in
launcher - and so ended up making a browser (like eve) but using elementary
and with finger scrolling.
I'm hoping someone can help me use an edje file for layout - my edje
knowledge isn't all that great. I'm looking at getting the lower button /
url bar (cum progressbar) as an edje widget. I'm open to ideas - if people
aren't tired of giving some :)
I was looking at a semi-transparent button in the lower left corner of the
browser that indicates % progress as the page gets loaded. On clicking the
button - a menu comes up that provides all the other functions - bookmarks,
zooming etc. Maybe the back and fwd button can be here - or use some
gestures on the main screen.
I'll add the patch to eve to get finger scrolling soon.

Here is the code (not yet on a repository) and the .bb file for those
interested. Works on latest shr-u.

You could extrakt the ipkg file and move the binary to /usr/bin. Otherwise you
could install the debian package, which should soon be available in the
Hackable:1 feeds.

Upgrade failed for me, too. But only the X server wouldnt start, after 1
reboot, ssh was opened, so I could execute opkg upgrade again, this time
successfully which made things work for me. Besides, SHR doesnt save the
contacts and messages on the sim card any longer, so you should either always
keep an up-to-date copy of the /etc/freesmartphone/opim/ directory or save the
current nand image before reflashing, mount it and copy this directory.

Greetings,
Martin.

hello list, after some shr-u strangeness i attempter an opkg upgrade.
that failed so i was forced to re-flash. i did so with the latest
20100212 file. but now, it seems i no longer have any contacts.

ive looked around in the pim settings for contacts and noticed there
are 3 entries. ive tried setting all of them to default but still no
contacts in the contacts list. there were many before.

any one have a guiding light for this issue?

command/error log or other debugging possibility to get rid of this problem.

we discussed about this (or something very similar) yesterday... right now I
managed to get connected switching frameworkd loglevel to debug (see
 /etc/frameworkd.conf).
Reboot and it should work... Something that needs to be fixed indeed :)

What _might_ work is, after a reboot, _not_ letting the FR fall asleep...
