Re: Indiephone.eu
Hi Michael Is a GTA02 debug board any use to you? I'd be happy to mail it to you if so. >* 2014-12-31: GSM fw fully running on the Calypso baseband, controlled > by AT commands, which would be good enough for practical use on the > GTA02, but a toy on the other targets. Voice + SMS only; adding CSD > and GPRS would be subsequent extra work. > Excellent - I'm glad you decided to continue. From what I've seen and heard of the UK supplier 3 (the only 3G only network here AFAIK), it's reasonable to think 2G is going to still be around for a good long while, at least in some parts of the world. >* 2015-06-30: the above plus the UI layers to make a Calypso dumbphone > with available schematics and no undocumented chips (e.g., Mot C139) > work as a practically usable cellphone running 100% free software > which any user can recompile from source and reflash at will. > In the hope of the project advancing to this stage, I'm interested in picking up a dumbphone before I return to SA. Is the C139 the best bet? I notice that osmocomBB says the C140 is virtually identical to this model. What about the other phones oBB list as targets - is it reasonable to hope they will usably run freecalypso? I'm guessing though that the gui code might be substantially model specific? I've put the leo2moko write ups that I publicized some months ago at http://www.matthews.pm/leo2moko.html They will be removed from the original location within the next few weeks, so if the free calypso baseband software project is of interest to you, please make a note of the new location. -- David Matthews m...@dmatthews.org ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

In recognition of the fact that this project is going beyond the leo2moko firmware port and the freerunner itself, I've updated the links to the howtos I wrote for the existing firmware and tools that Michael has released:- http://matthews.pm/freecalypso.html (formerly http://matthews.pm/leo2moko.html) There should not be any broken links, but if you do see any, please let me know. I believe it's fair to say it's a hacking/investigative tool, but I'm happy to be corrected by anyone that actually uses or works on it. You load up a bag with vegetables and you now have some appealing choices:- 1. you can eat the stuff raw or cook it 2. you could add a load of crap to it as in a frozen ready meal or prepare in a wholesome recipe 3. you can share a meal with your starving spouse and mewling children 4. I dunno but I'm sure there is a four and more So you were slightly naughty and trespassed, you grabbed something that wasn't really yours, but it was **going to waste** and **no one really cares**. NOBODY loses and a one plus person gets a meal. >Much better than running some binary blob you can't even look at, yes, Yes indeed, very much better >but still very different from the the goals of Free Software. > Are they very different? greetings from the freecalypso project
Please excuse touch of plug and slight bit of off-topic-ness, but just to let anyone here with interest in free (as in source code available) baseband firmware, that the freecalypso project is making strides. Progressing on from the stable leo2moko release for the freerunner made some time ago, we are hopefully not too far away from offering a firmware compiled entirely from source code (remaining binary blobs removed) by GCC. We are particularly excited with recent progress targeting the Motorola C139, very much a work in progress, but calls and SMS work and our firmware runs the GUI! Make a glance at https://www.freecalypso.org and https://www.freecalypso.org/howtos/ Best wishes -- David Matthews m...@dmatthews.org ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

fso-gsm
I'm using my freerunner as an everyday phone again after it was freed by the freecalypso project's baseband firmware. I'm running qtmoko v58 and would like to try this with fso-gsm; can anyone point me to the necessary software? I believe I just need a copy of libfsogsm.so.0.0.0? Also any advice, such as where to put that library would be appreciated.
