Yes ... it is provided by hackable1-config-gta0x which is packaged from
openmoko-files (alsa scenarios, udev rules ...). We could have removed

yes, you can update the rev5 (make sure, in sources.list, that you are
using the rev5 repositories and not the dailies) ; dist-upgrading

In order to get the wifi working, you might have to run:
rmmod s3cmci
rmmod ar6000
modprobe s3cmci
modprobe ar6000

What version of H:1 are you using ?
There should be a button in the menu that you launch by pressing the
Power button for 2 seconds.
If not, it's a known rev4's regression. However, apm -s should still
work fine.
As for the GPS, I don't see what could cause that.
