It's not hard to run your browser on the neo as user. Though it should
be made default.
e.g. in SHR one could ask the user at first startup to create a user
and then run the browser, piding and all those internet applications
with the rights of this user.

Re: openmoko to computer calls

2010-01-07 Thread Jakob
you could use a sip client like linphone or asterisk (see openmoko
wiki for details)
and put up your own sipserver or use existing free services like ekiga.

another way would be setting up a asteriskserver (not on the neo) with
an skypegateway. see this old thread

I tried to track a flight once, too. The problem is probably that
airplanes are a faraday cage as they're usually made of some kind of
metal. I didn't have a window seat to test if one has a signal there.

 * Package bluez-utils wants to install file /etc/dbus-1/system.d/bluetooth.conf

Is bluez-utils the same package as bluez4, only a newer version?

I would like to compile the otr-lib and the otr-plugin [1] for pidgin.
However I do not have any experience in compiling an existing project
with the openmoko toolchain. The wikipage for the toolchain says only
one has to cp the src in to the example project, which isn't enough
information for me. Maybe someone can give me some hints.

Re: [Freerunner] Backlight flickering slightly

hello marcel,

The changes in brightness are more visible, if one is in a dark room,
one's eyes are accustomed to the darkness, and the brightness is
turned down to like 5 out of 100. I guess this occures due to changes
of the load on the battery (like cpu changes freq or the like).

Maybe it's possible to create profiles for different instruments. Then
the range of the freq detection could be limited and thus we still
have fast detection.

hi lothar,
you might want to read http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Customize_Application_Icons
Also i noticed that you may have to change the section Categories= in
the respective .desktop file, because some keywords like e.g. Utilitiy
let it appear on the desktop and some don't. Maybe someone else knows
more about this.

Thanks Steve for this little insight.
As the mod doesn't seem that hard to do, I'm looking forward to my
Freerunner for christmas (regardless if its A7 or a not yet reworked
A6 :) ).

Would it be better to wait until A7 is out and then buy a Freerunner?
How hard is it to do the component change on a A6?

I added my scripts for connecting to simyo to the wiki, I think they
are originally based on his work.

I've tried rosetta (on OM2007.2), but the training application needed
some modifications to run at all because the application would not
display itself properly (wrong assumptions about screen size).
Rosetta is at least promising when tweaked and used together with a good
word list.

What makes it unusable is that the automatic keyboard adds
to the screen space needed by rosetta and then there's simply not
enough screen left for the main application (e.g. SMS editor)
A workaround for this is to re-enable the keyboard toggle applet
in /etc/matchbox/session as described in the wiki. (I have the matchbox
keyboard running, but I guess it would be the same with multitap).

Some simple general keyboard input method management would be really
nice for OM. E.g. like an extended keyboard applet that shows and hides
keyboard apps associated with the chosen input method.

That sounds quite interesting. I got the exact same problem as you are
experiencing. Could you tell me what you did, to get the event data from
 the first accelerometer?

This looks really freakish (no offence i like it that way ;). Would be
interessting
to know how long the batterie lasts with this setup.

Hi to all (have been reading along this list for a long time :),

Sure you can use the Freerunner without gsm. It will just be was any PDA
without gsm-modem (well it will be better ;)
