Configuring neo as a Bluetooth Headset to SIP client

2009-03-26 Thread Kumar
Hi all,

I want to configure neo as a bluetooth headset for my linux PC SIP client so
that i can receive my VOIP calls on my neo speakers and i can talk with my
neo microphone!

Is it possible without hardware changes? Give some directions to configure
neo audio system to make it work.

Thanks,

Re: Request to provide input on Sahana mobile application on Openmoko

2009-02-21 Thread Ajay Kumar
Hi All,
A gentle reminder and request to everyone subscribed on the list to
provide input through the survey I have created for the Sahana mobile
project I am working on right now.
So far, I have received only 6-10 responses from actual domain experts
and Sahana developers.
Since I am basing my developing on the Openmoko platform, I expect to
understand more about the system, and so far only a few less than 5-10
people from the Openmoko community have responded.

I am sure there are more available on the list, so I'd request you to fill
up the survey. Besides, it just takes 5-10 minutes of your time to fill it
up :)
The link to the survey is:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?key=pWeVl6IM9h6UKAGOx231pFA

Your guidance and input will help me have a greater understanding of
the domain and its utility.

Thanks Regards,

Ajay Kumar

Re: I bought the FR for what I did not have - freedom (was: Re: funny comment from a user, in response to the question of whether FR works as a daily phone:)

2008-09-20 Thread Ajay Kumar
Somewhat similar utility to what Brian said:

On Sun, Sep 21, 2008 at 1:00 AM, Brian Wilson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

They are targeted at hospitality and healthcare industry. They are
just WiFi phones, no GSM no Linux.
Both of these apps have staff that are constantly moving around and
 don't have a desk phone.

Similar scenario, on which I am working right now, is Disaster Management
and Relief Operations and supplementing these activities using the FR.

Build an app that caters to these folks and adds together WiFi + GPS + GSM

For Disaster management, Sahana is a FOSS web application just made for this
purpose which has been used in real world situations. Building a solution
that caters to the similar needs of Disaster reporting and data collection
could well be very effective and useful for such critical solutions, with
such a handy and powerful device.

For a hotel -- from the phone, check status of any room. Use the phone
as a master key for cleaning staff.

The central Sahana server can keep track of On Field relief workers,
broadcast them instructions or alerts based on their GPS location. Like,
need to relocate and assign a different task ?
Or say, urgently address a situation at a nearby location e.g. a victim who
needs immediate help.

When a phone leaves the building (loses WiFi VOIP registration) switch
to GSM and note it in the server.

This is a very kool thing to have, ideally we can communicate to the Sahana
server over Wifi, GPRS, and SMS too. I wrote the SMS server side part, which
i am still expanding.
So you could just have a daemon running, which sends the GPS location of the
Field Reporter, via an SMS in a timely manner. Acting like a real time GPS
tracking for Sahana's system keeping track of all volunteers.

Moreover, there is currently a new module in development, by Dominic on the
Sahana project, which is the Dead Body Tracking and Disaster Victim
Identification (in short: DVI) for Sahana. This would include body search on
the scene, one thing you would preferably carry a GPS-enabled handy data
input device and a hand full of labels with you .The module should be
enabled to mark found items on a scene map, e.g. a grid, that's what the
search team usually does.
The phone, could well be used for such a purpose, if it had a camera too, it
could take pictures. And an app to generate Bar codes for each body. Later
it can be connected to a printer to print the bar codes and fix them on the
bodies.

Just few more possibilities to the list :-)
I am working on this project, which aims to use the FR as an effective
Disaster reporting tool for Sahana, a FOSS Disaster management system [
www.sahana.lk].

GPS, Wifi are key hardware components to start off for this, and later we
can use the other modes like SMS, GPRS to exchange data between the Sahana
server and the phone using a client application.

Providing the field volunteers with an easy to use, touch input based phone
to do all the data activity saves a lot of hassles and increases effiency
thus saving time. An important *thing* in such situations..

Sahana Client on Openmoko [Discussion]

2008-09-19 Thread Ajay Kumar
Hi All,
I am Ajay Kumar, 25 year old, Software Engineering student currently in my
final year, and a Sahana Developer.
Post GSoC 2008, I am working on a separate project where my main motive is
to use the Openmoko phone, FreeRunner as an effective disaster reporting
tool and data communication with a client application.

Primarily, I will need to use the following features of the phone and make
them available to my application.
1. GPS
2. WiFI
3. Touch Input

Also at a further stage, I will need to use the SMS, GPRS features too.

A detailed proposal which I have written is available here for those who are
interested.
Proposal: http://www.ajuonline.net/academics/AJ_Openmoko_Sahana_Proposal.pdf

But since the project is something new, I will be basing my development so
has to have something that just works and then iterating it over time.

My primary reasons of choosing the Openmoko phone is:
1. FOSS - matches with the Sahana ideology.
2. Larger active developer community - it has its own benefit in terms of
contributions to maintain the project in future.

For your reference, my academic project duration is:
1. Mid term - End of Research Analysis Phase: October 27 2008.
2. Final deadline Presentation: Mid April 2009.

My proposal @ college has been approved last week and I am working ahead on
this project.

I will be posting updates and research outcomes as I progress.

Since I am new to Openmoko development, your suggestions and advise on how
to get started would be really appreciated.

Thanks Regards,

Ajay Kumar

how to enable usb host mode?

2008-02-04 Thread Phani Kumar Kancharala
Hi,
I have applied the patch cited at wiki and built the kernel.
Now the problem is I could not able to find the usb_mode file in the path
/sys/devices/platform/s3c2410-ohci/.

Does this file exits in advance or we have to create?? Are there any file
need to be modified to get host mode up.

thanks in advance for any help.

does wifi work in GTA01?

2008-01-08 Thread Phani Kumar Kancharala
Hi,

I am trying use wifi on GTA01. Since I have 2.6.22 kernel with USB host
patch, and a USB WiFi driver, I thought it is possible. But, I got stuck
with the errors occurred during cross compilation of relink USB WiFi
driver. I found that CONFIG_WIRELESS_EXT is not set in the kernel
configuration file, which is required to enable the member
wireless_handlers in net_device structure which is defined in netdevice.hfile.

So, I think having the correct configuration file would solve the problem.
If it true, where can I get the config file??
are there any other ways to get WiFi up on GTA01?

Regards,
Phani

does dialer supports multiple calls at a time??

2007-09-15 Thread Phani Kumar Kancharala
Hi all,
I am new to openmoko... before having the real phone experience thought of
going through the source to understand how the moko applications work ,
particularly the DIALER.
I could follow the call flow and all. I tried to locate where the call
object is created to keep track of the call progress and found like the call
progress is integrated withe dialer object.
If my observation is true then here is my concern Is moko dialer
supporting call hold feature to handle two or more calls at once? if it
supports where can i find it?

Thank you all

compilation of openmoko platform

2007-08-16 Thread Ashok Kumar
Hi
I am eager to develop some apps for neo. I was trying to compile
openmoko platform using MokoMakefile. It took almost 12 hours(in P4
3.2Ghz 512 RAM) in the compilation of alsa-lib. still it did not
finish. How long will it take to compile in an average system? I just
read 7 hours somewhere. Did i forget somethings to do? Why is it
taking so long to compile? Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance

 It's on the wiki:

 http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Neo1973:_GTA01Bv4_versus_GTA02_comparison
What is that sound column in that site? What sound they are talking
about? Is that the sound in calls? why GTA2 supports only mono?

Re: compilation of openmoko platform

2007-08-16 Thread Ashok Kumar
I was using mokomakefile in debian etch linux.
first i gave the command
make setup
and then
make openmoko-devel-image
it just stood in the compilation of alsa-lib itself for hours.

You don't say anything about your build environment so there's not a lot
anyone can do to help. Were you using mokomakefile? The VMware image?

Re: compilation of openmoko platform

Hi
Checked your post. i did mount the swap partition when compiling that
and in addition to that i have created 4GB s of swapfile. Before
breaking that long compilation i checked the free memory the
compilation process almost took all the RAM and around 3GB s of swap
space!

I had such an experience using Ubuntu Feisty.
The issue was due to the swap partition which was not mounted.
(If this is the issue you met, check the list about my previous post
 please for a possible fix).

 Best wishes,
