the FR does not wake up on alarm. Mine never wakes up on alarm. Neither

Can you see that it is disabled on those days from /sys or /proc

Re: Bounties?

I'd pay ~50 for a thing like Agendus on Palm OS.

That can sync to Evolution (at least Calendar and Contacts) and has good
mail app. QT mail is not usable, clawsmail is a lot better but not
optimized for a small screen.

At the risk ob beeing called a parrot I want to ask the same
question again:
Is anyone able to build a 2008.08 image with Mokomakefile?

Yes, I am building all of the images.

Which branch from asu? dev? stable?

It is slow. The first time you have to start the make over and over
again until your are done...
But thats all in the wiki page. So you might need a day or two.

I is not a question how long it takes. For me a couple of packages are
broken in asu.stable. At least pixman and xtrans (or something like
this) do not compile.

Do not use the parallel modus. It only breaks the make earlier.

It worked well for me for the 2007.04 stack.

All 3: stable, testing and dev
 ( org.openmoko.asu.stable, org.openmoko.asu.testing,
 org.openmoko.asu.dev)

OK. Cool. Then there is hope for me.

 Did you try again?:

Not a completely fresh setup. I'll give this a try.

make setup make update make openmoko-qtopia-x11-image
Did you look through the error messages?

Yes. Compiling pixman breaks with an unresolved symbol
pixman...something. There was a message about this on devel on Aug.
13 and the answer was like please wait 1 or 2 weeks, sources will be
fixed until then.

Did you try to fix the problems?

Not yet. Still try to figure out if this is a general or just my own
problem.

Did you follow the Build issues part of the page?

Yes. make clean-package-pixman and rebuilding it does not solve the
problem.

If I remember well - I am an old man ... - . This happened only if you tried

No . That's not what I want. I am on the 2008.08 path.

I looked into the different builds. The last time pixmap was build in a
testing on my machine was the 14.8. (Aug.14). It was not different from

Won't work because they have a different CPU in the the n800/810. If I compile
it for the FR with the same options used for the n800/810, it will crash due
to an unknown instruction.

I installed and it satisfy all dependencies except 2:

 libsdl1.2

Get the ipk (it's in the FSO repositories), extract and put things it into

Responsibility ;) I did it once. Take it, submit patches. Talk to the

Amazing. I have sanitized the bitbake recipe and put it into OE.

Cool. I need to take a look and see what I missed :)

 It would be
cool, if you could distribute a patch against the original sources though
 rather than the new files.

Yes. This was just a first quick hack. I have contact with the original
author and there needs to be fixes to support arbitrary screen
resolutions. The x,y coordinates in the level files are mapped 1:1 to
the screen at the moment. There is a perl script that converted the
800x480 resolution of the n800 to 480x... . This is probably the first
thing to work on. And maybe bigger squares in the edit popup.

I bet upstream would appreciate that as well.

Yes, Tim (the original author) suggested the things above and takes
patches. I will be on vacation for the next two weeks, but will probably
work on this afterwards. It would be cool if the landscape bug would be
fixed than. This would probably double the fun :)

From next release on, it will be installed in FSO by default (see
 http://scap.linuxtogo.org/files/1563393fc2dda9657dbc50e6582950ae.png) -- I

Not exactly(that i know of), but on 2007.2 I think you can add your

Well, I know the freerunner is no specialized gps navigation device, but
 the
fact that the signals are so weak that it's barely possible to get a fix
under optimal condition (clear view to the sky, antenna on top, without
moving 1 mm) shows, that this is no simple software problem and has to
 be fixed.

The GPS performance of my Freerunner is also much worse than
the GPS performance of my neo1973. I've done side-by-side tests of the
two units many times. My neo1973 gets a good fix in 2 to 3 minutes
after a completely cold start; it's very reliable. My Freerunner
initially was getting a fix after 7 or 8 minutes. For the last few
days it has not been able to get a fix at all.

 Hi Brian,

try to compile and install Minimo. It has zoom (but never hides the
 keyboard).

 I've tried that using mokomakefile:
 make build-package-minimo
It always fails during config. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

No. How should I without an error message ;)

I know ;-) I would have posted it, but was in the middle of another build.
That's finished now so I've tried again with the same result - see below.

 Do you have the toolchain
 installed? I usually do

 . setup-env
 cd build
 bitbake minimo

That works if 'make openmoko-devel-image' did not fail (usually it does
not). Then you have an ipk somewhere. Just copy it over (as well as the
lib that is beeing build as depency). And do an opkg install ...

I think I could also put my two ipk files somewhere.

I get exactly the same result doing that as 'make build-package-minimo' -
error below. The toolchain is fine I think. I am running an image I built,
and have built individual packages including dillo and the matchbox keyboard.
Those work fine, and I have repo configs so opkg can pull the deps in over
the network. I tried a clean build, but got the same result again.

Here is the quick and dirty process for manually showing and hiding the

- kill the matchbox-keyboard process
- (install and) start matchbox-applet-inputmanager

TODO would be a nicer icon in the applet bar (should be easy) and and to

which list to write to (was Re: x offset in landscape mode)

2008-07-10 Thread Michael Kluge
Further to the recent questions about our mailinglists thread, ISTM
that this is more suitable for device-owners than the wider community
 list.
As I see it you have a device in your hand and you want to hear from
other users who have devices in their hands = device-owners, a list
where owners of openmoko devices can share their experiences.
 http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/

Hmm. That would apply to all:
* no quick fix for my GPS
* my SIM does not work
* gta02 won't charge
threads as well? It is probably the best idea to write to both lists (I was
not aware of the other list up to now). Or to merge them? As more freerunners
are beeing shipped the difference in #people subscribed to both lists should
become rather small.

I hope you're not offended by this suggestion, and I hope you get
 helpful replies.

No. I already did :)

make build-package-claws-mail with mokomakefile fails

2008-07-10 Thread Michael Kluge
Hi all,

there is a problem building claws-mail which is included as version 3.3 in the
openembedded path. I have the latest copy of the Mokomakefile development
environment as well as the toolchain
(http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Toolchain) installed.

Running make build-package-claws-mail fails during the compile stage at a
point where it looks like the arm-gcc tries to compile some C++ code and
fails finding libstdc++.6.so. Adding 'CC=${CXX} LD=${CXX}' to EXTRA_OECONF
(seen in other packages) ends with an error during the configure stage that
says:

...
autoreconf: running:
automake --foreign --add-missing --copy --force-missing --warnings=cross
automake: unknown warning category `cross'
autoreconf: running: gnu-configize
autoreconf: Leaving directory `.'
arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi-g++: arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi-g++: No such file
or directory
arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi-g++: no input files

I think the dependency to libstdc++ comes from an external library used by
claws-mail.

Did I handle this C vs. C++ problem in the BB files correctly or is there an
other preferred way to tackle this?

The error message:

arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi-g++: arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi-g++: No such file
or directory

does not tell me so much. If anyone want to have fun looking into the logs I
can send them around as well.

x offset in landscape mode

2008-07-09 Thread Michael Kluge
Hi all,

I have a slight problem with the landscape mode. It seems that the
touchscreen subtracts
some value from the x position where I touched the screen with the
stylus. The y value
seems to be fine. If I tap on the '+' on the bottom of the screen it
looks like I tapped
the 'home' icon. I this a known problem? Has anyone tried the landscape
mode and
found that everything is OK?

Re: freerunner unable to work with 3G SIMCards?

2008-07-08 Thread Michael Kluge
My German Blau SIM (On the back it says, amongst other things, 3V -
does that mean volts?) does NOT work on my new GTA02, despite what is
  on http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Carriers

One colleague's Dutch Orange SIM did work, but two other German
  Vodafone SIMs did not.

One German and one Dutch T-Mobile SIM did not work, but a German
  Debitel (T-Mobile
  reseller) did.

Nor did a 1 year old German O2 SIM.

Tried 4 more German SIMs - none of the them worked:

 D2 Mannesmann (7 years old)
 Vodafone
 O2
 T-D1 (T-Mobile)

 I don't see any pattern.

Who has a German SIM working in their FR?

Yes, I have two, both work fine:
- D1 T-Mobile (from mobilcom) ~1year old
- E-PLUS SIMYO ~1month old

Any experiments you want me to do?

I've got a new simyo card too and it claims to be 1.8V, but i don't have a

second line of the text on my sim reads 72K 1.8V #569 J276

Sure. 72K 3V #568 H276. I ordered the card mid Juni 2008 and it was

Re: freerunner unable to work with 3G SIMCards?

Most probably. I am waiting for one too and will use it with a SIM card from
SIMYO. It's a prepaid card, they charge for 1MB data 24 Cent and use the
e-plus network. I guess a few people with a freerunner have such a card as
most other offers for data is more expensive.

Dominate and define are different things. Blackberry might dominate
(only in US though), but now Apple has the new cool thing, and every
manufacturer from Samsung to Nokia make releases of similar models at
