As a Om2009t5 user it's a big YES for me.
I know that numbers speak against Om2009, but I use and love this distrib.
I am using it since 1st july, and I find it :
- usable (hi Paroli !)
- stable while using (few reboots, only when battery exhausted or when I
need to change SIM, which is rare)
- stable while upgrading : I was used to break lots of things while
upgrading my SHR-U, it's far better with Om2009

As another OM2009t5 user I'd like to chime in too.

Again, I love OM2009t5 compared to other distro's I tried before. It
was the first one for me with stable phone and GPS, no lost calls and
decent battery. Comparing to OM2007, OM2008 and Qtopia here, not used
any other.

And yet, I'd prefer the scarce development effort into going to make
one distro stable and featureful. If SHR is that one presently, then
yes please, let's get SHR stable and have a big repository full of
applications available as soon as possible.

Just my opinion.

I also haven't opened the phone so don't have any idea how difficult
opening the RF cage is.
But once past that, I'd prefer replacing the Capacitor with a higher

another in parallel. I believe extra wires inside the RF cage can have
unintended side-effects.

Indian FR Owners

2009-01-07 Thread Vibhav Sharma

I'm sure there are about 100-200 of us (Indian FR Owners) out there.
Atleast it appears so from what Rakshat of IDA systems tells us.

The wiki though, shows not that many.

I'm guessing most of us would be lurkers on this list. Anybody

3. Executing 'apm' from terminal earlier used to give battery status ...

4. Wifi configuration worked perfectly from gui. Except for empty
'resolv.conf', I vaguely remember seeing somewhere that have to do stuff
to get that working. Will look into that. 'System Info' network showed
wrong gateway (IP assigned to device instead of gateway IP). But
configuration was correct according to 'ip route show' and it was
working ok.

6. Phone UI freezes for some time (30s) sometimes (rarely). Not been

7. Desperately need info on how mapping demo can be configured etc. Need
to cache maps. It seems you can't move around / zoom.

I dunno how a 10pF capacitor on SD_CLK is going to fix the GPS chip
acting erratic when it genuinely loses the satellites as you move indoors.

FWIW you'll need to wait for tomorrow's kernels to get yesterday's two
 fixes in there.

Hi Andy,

I'm the guy who said that.

Actually I based my observation on the fact that i saw an entry of
10/x/y as the endmost entry on the TangoGPS status line.
Isn't that supposed to mean that it still has fixes from 10 satellites.
So I thought it must be a SNR issue and the capacitor fix
is supposed to help on that ... right?

This was all guesswork on my part. If somebody could help with how to
make observations on GPS performance, I'd be glad to
do testing and provide input.

The kernel update is going on as I type this. So will test again today
if possible. And don't worry ... will be doing the hardware
fix only after OM finally, after all software fixes, decides it will
still help / otherwise not.
