[Qtmoko] automatic time?
Hello all, one of my biggest problems is, that my time and date will be resetet from time to time. i know the solution with the hw-fix, but i didn't get time and stuff to do that. qtmoko also got a setting automatic which could be set to on, off or ask. if i like to use the automatic time (so set to on), i always got a message : no automatic time information is currently avaible, also when it got's internet. could i set anywhere a ntp-server or so to fix that? it would be nice if it correct the time/date when it got internet. the calendar/todo-list would be much more useable then. :) greets ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Rootfs remains the same except qpe.sh script and kernel and the main reason for the release is touchscreen regression. It seems that latest andy-tracking kernel makes touchscreen not working after a few suspend/resumes cycles. I have seen this a few times and it was also reported on mailing list. I think the problem is in latest touchscreen related commits. I will report this on kernel mailing list. In v13 we now use now kernel before latest touchscreen changes were made so hopefully the touchscreen will now work as expected. Besides this we have more battery bug fixes thanks to Jim Morris so maybe battery is now bug free? ;) GPRS is now more simple to setup (APN, user name and password should be enough). i've got a server with unlimited bandwidth (if limited means if you have a 50 mb file and a bandwidth with 100mb, then just 2 users could download it per month, as example.. i'm not shure if i understand it the right way..) so this one could be used. my problem is just that i've got not so much RAM (300 mb), and there's a mailserver (sendmail + dovecot), a apache, a mysql- server and some little things working. so if a lot of users would have access to the page, it could be very slow. but i fixed this for most by using phpeaccelerator. so if the server is usable for you (could be used for free!), contact me.. ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community
idea of a openmoko-community-foundation
hello all, i had just a little idea of a little foundation for the developers on openmoko. i think, there are lot of peobles who could use the sw which is written from less peobles. so the idea is to make donations on a account and the peobles, who spend it, could say, as example, if radek needs a new bluetooth-headset: yes, we spend it from the account. or if the openmoko from dos1 is crashing (on hardware-site), yeah, we pay the reperature. may i'm wrong, but as i know, these peobles work fully for free. so i think, it would be ok to spend them the hardware at least which they need to develop. because we could have a profit on the better software! i think, we could coordinate this over the www and look for a fair system. just one problem: does someone know how we could make the account so, that no one could take all the money and go aways? would someone help, to build something up? i think, if 20 peobles spend 10 dollars in a month, it would help for much things (and this isn't so much, i think). greets ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

another little idea for this; if the user said in (future) options, that he want to let the sms be on sim, so may it's nice if he could then also select delete last sms on simcard when sim-storage full and may a number for how much sms should be deleted. and as alternative, if he didn't want to delete them, the sms on simcard could be synced for the qtmoko-db, as example on start and if the storage is full, it just saved the sms to the qtmoko-db and doesn't touch the sim. i will do that into the wiki later :) Am Dienstag, 1. You can find sources in my git branch qt451. Cool, I'm going to merge from you :) Another thing is qmplayer - media player that can play ogg/mp3/avi files but is also able to download or stream media from PC. You can find more info on qmplayer homepage [2]. Kernel is now based on packaging config. The kernel size is now under 2MB so it can be booted with u-boot. We have also new logo [3] (thanks to my wife). My plan for future is to merge other's GIT's - i am running build right now, so we'll see if that worked :) On the experimenting front - i was able to run TangoGPS and other X apps via vnc. Mai 2009 12.26:17 Marcus Bauer wrote: Hello Openmoko Community, a new release of hackable:1 is available! We have been working hard on ironing out bugs and making it a lot more usable and I am proud to announce that we have come a long way. Several developers are now using it as daily phone and internet device - so we are eating our own dogfood. hackable:1 now offers phone functionality and sms plus a full PIM suite consisting of contacts, calendar and todo list manager, plus a timesheet time tracker application. For internet use we have added a new browser optimised for small screens and speed. It is based on webkit and supports javascript and allows for quick access of all major functions. The Feedreader has been overhauled and comes with a set of predefined open source feeds to which you can add more to your personal liking. The default keyboard is hackers keyboard, i.e. for stylus use with all special characters quickly accessible. This allows for both, quickly typing an sms as well as using the command line effectively. hackable:1 is based on Debian Lenny thus 25.000 packages are only an apt-get far away. Many packages especially for development are pre-installed - compiler, linker, build tools, dev-libraries are already there for a quick start into development right on the phone, just in minutes. Changes since the last release (rev3) = * plenty of fixes to gsmd and phone-kit * finger scroll works well now, no longer unwanted application starts * plenty of fixes to the hackers keyboard - no more double key presses * fully Lenny based * added new browser woosh * updated feedreader * added calendar, todo, gallery * well working autorotate * and much, much more... How to install it = hackable:1 is running from SD card, thus you can easily check it out as it wont touch your installation in flash of the phone. Simply untar it onto a SD card, pop the SD card into the phone and boot from it. The steps are: - format a 1GB+ SD card with 8MB fat and the rest ext2 - untar the two tarballs - boot from the SD card The detailed steps for installation are here: http://www.hackable1.org/wiki/Installation Technology == The hackable:1 apps are GTK+ and C for speed, however there is no restriction. You like qt, e, f or g? You like python, perl or erlang? Welcome on board, this is open source/free software and freedom is about choice. Pick your poison! As of now the applications are a mixture of finger-based and stylus based whichever seems to fit best. What to expect == There will still be bugs. Some apps are not fully optimized for usability. But it is usable as phone, as PDA and as internet device. It is a community project, you can easily join, voice your opinion and add code and applications. The RD department of Bearstech -the french distributor of the Openmoko Freerunners- is sponsoring the development, Bearstech is using it as base for various VAR projects and subsequently Bearstech wants to give back and is commited to the free software community. Whoever cares about MD5 checksums, nowadays, is putting up a farse, at least demand SHA256 ;) The point of MD5 checksums is to check for download errors, truncated files or the repository maintainer uploading the wrong file somehow. It is not to protect us from black hats who might somehow replace a correct image with a malware infected one. (If they are able to do that, they can replace the md5sums file a the same time). Anyway, MD5 sum checking is done automaticaly in many tools, and most people are familiar with the commands to check MD5 sums, so if the images come with MD5 sums they will be checked easily. If they come with another sort of checksum, it will be harder to check, for no real benefit. i think, md5 is enough, but sha256 is better (it's a smaller possibility that there is a hash double, but when would this happend? :p) there is enough space and the prozessors are fast, so why didn't use sha256? - -- Vinzenz Hersche Lehrling 2. bootloader contacts

That sounds quite unlikely, even if you had configured your GSM to send the data without encryption how would your analog TV set decompress the digital (and compressed) audio stream? It might have been a hoax as well. If I remember it right, it was the operator's fault. From the video footage, only some words were understandable. On the other hand, I remember watching encoded audio + video from a locked channel with a satellite tuner. The quality is *very* poor, but it can be understood at times.
