Re: [debian] installation
I recently tried to reinstall Debian with a FAT partition. I got errors indicating Debian (kernel?) couldn't be installed that way. (This didn't happen when I had originally installed some time ago.) Anyway, I tried again with ext2 on both partitions and got the recursive white-screen and reboot. Updating my NAND fixed that. Debian now works but I see a Python exception when running Zhone (seems to be a known problem). auxlaunch ver 0.6
Hello, Here's info on an update to auxlaunch, (finger-friendly app launcher and window switcher). Download at [1] and wiki page at [2]. Version 0.6 changes include: - New '-noaux' option as alternative to claiming the AUX button. - At startup, if another auxlaunch instance is running, signal it (to appear) then exit current instance. - Use rc file in user's home directory. - Use fork and execvp to launch apps. - Bug fix: mode now set to WIN on gaining focus. - Started using version control (at http://code.google.com/p/auxlaunch/). - Removed pesky /r's. (Thanks to Timo for the alert.) - DMS: Shortened 'Applicatons' to 'Apps'. Comments and patches always welcome. Many thanks to Joachim nomeata Breitner, chrysn, and ben for their contributions and advice. Re: Survey about the Touchscreen
IMHO having to dig out a stylus (pen) or use my fingernail is not nearly as convenient or enjoyable as a finger-friendly interface. Re: [Debian] Auxlaunch
Ben, sorry for the delay in responding to your message. Thank you for testing Auxlaunch - it really helps. Also, I apologize for the DMS error. My code to parse the DMS files wasn't robust enough! I hope the latest version, at least, avoids the error but skips the entry. I integrated your code changes for hiding Auxlaunch (uses -hide option). However, for me, it seems to loose track of whether it was displayed or not. Are you finding that it launches applications underneath the Auxlaunch window? I had also been thinking about a way to implement some type of menus as you've suggested. So, there's a new feature to allow for groups. It is just basic functions for now (one level, no custom icons). The big change is the move to a single, top-level, go button. There just wasn't enough room for three, individual top-level buttons. I've update the wiki page and made ver 0.5 available for download. Please let me know what you think. Thanks again, - aliasid PS - I think the screenshots show Auxlaunch attached to openmoko-panel-plugin because I'm using the matchbox window manager in fullscreen mode with no title bars. Re: Back to the basics: improving user experience
As a user that switches between Debian, Qtopia, and om2008, I urge you to focus on improving areas that could benefit all distributions. I don't understand the technical dependencies, but I get the impression that Lorn and the Debian folks rely on some form of Openmoko development. Just as an example, suspend/resume continues to be a problem for me across all three distros. Also, the point someone made about working on stuff that's restricted under NDA seems valid. Qtopia questions
Hi, I'm using Qtopia on my new Freerunner and enjoying the software and the hardware. Please excuse the noob questions below. They're sincere and aren't meant to incite debate. My apologies if these have been answered already. 1. Are there plans to maintain ongoing development/support of regular (non-X) Qtopia for the Freerunner? Or, will developers shift focus to work on the Qtopia-on-X (ASU?) distributions? 2. Will fixes move back and forth between regular Qtopia and Qtopia-on -X (ASU) in the future? 3. Can I realistically use Python to develop apps for Qtopia? (I see Python...Yes on the Distributions page, but I don't find much when using Google.) What I'm trying to ask is: Is Python used frequently and easily? 4. Is the model for Qtopia open-source, but managed by Trolltech-Nokia? That is, do outside developers submit changes to standard Qtopia?
