So I want to suggest to point the new website on a similar shop web page, but one without so much informations and with the four wish lists (GTA04, CaseKit, Camera, Battery). The actual informations could be replaced by links on the gta04 wiki to give a better view of the wish lists. I understand that to sell some product it's important to clearly explain what is inside the product, that's why I want to keep actual page for the shop and I suggest to add another one simplified for the wish list. So, with two different page, we can modify actual new web site interested box by having two links : * I want one ! : link to the actual detailed page * Show your interest ! : link to the wish lists page Regards, Adrien PS : on both web page, they'll be the same wish list, the new one will be to just simplify the access to the wish lists. -- 不要催我!你曾經問過梵谷畫很快嗎? ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Hello I've installed qtmoko v55 some days ago. Later I've tried to get back the old input methods as suggested in an old thread, by putting those .so files in /opt/qtmoko/plugins/inputmethods. Re: Help to grow The Independent Mobile Tool Community!
An active membership on mainstream social networks could help, as well as second choices (b...) like identi.ca, plurk and diaspora... This can maybe look naif, but this adds more visibility, especially if the accounts are supported by an attractive website, imho. Just owning a microblogging account where to share the content of the webpages allows a better rank in the search engines and therefore more visitors, but you all know this already. We should use all the ways we can to spread the voice of the community. Another thing is that in my opinion we should have a better management of the resources (especially human resources). Actually we all know that there are just few of the community who are involved in the development, for many different reasons. If we could better coordinate, manage the (sub)project, like qtmoko, shr, firmware dev, news publishing, social networking, etc, we could probably be more efficient and also involved. Probably many of us doesn't have the technical skill to contribute to sw development or build an electronic schema, but maybe are able to run an OFFICIAL account on diaspora or an OFFICIAL blog. I say official because in my opinion we (community) need more referring points, for us and for the new potential users, even at coast of being repetitive; we know that some on internet just use one kind of social network, others hate them and just want to read news on blogs and web portals, and so on. Honestly, I've always seen the lack of a press office here... it's not fault of anybody and surely this task can't be assigned always to the same people... but imho we really need a better publishing system for the community and its news regards urodelo On Wed, 08 May 2013 16:07:26 +0200, Dr. H. Nikolaus Schaller h...@goldelico.com wrote: Hi all, today I would like to ask you to help to grow the OpenPhoenux Independent Mobile Tool Community. Why do we need to grow the community? We need many more active members contributing in all aspects of such a project. We need developers, maintainers, testers, people discussing new ideas, writing blogs, writing comments, going to fairs, making presentations, running servers, teaching and convincing others that we are doing something useful. And we need more people interested in our software and hardware or we will remain a side note of history. Finally we can't get new members by waiting for them to come by chance. What is this community about? There has been a long discussion recently about next generation OpenPhoenux devices and I got a lot of valuable inputs indicating that we even need a broader view, so that I now feel that I am able to write down what this community is about. And very important: what makes it different from other human activities! This is important because any new prospective community member will ask you and I hope that my proposals are the right answers to their questions and make them join our community. Most of us have origins in the OpenMoko community. OpenMoko did appear in Nov 2006 as the attempt to provide the first really open Linux portable computer with telephony functions. At that time this idea was very new - it was announced 2 months before the iPhone 1 - and did catch a lot of attention. In the meantime the world has changed a lot. iPhone comes with an Appstore which has revolutionized the way independent software developers work. Google has established Android and the whole smartphone industry has got to speed to provide cheap (and some crap) devices with Android. Facebook has appeared and also tries to get their-selves onto the Home screen of smartphones. Smartphones have developed into tablets and phablets. Combined with the millions of Apps, that are mini-browsers for specific tasks, this is more or less the opposite what the personal computer idea combined with a world wide web of connected computers was. In that model everyone did have control over the data that was published. This means that neither the device hardware nor the software and the services provided by the network are the most important. I.e. we must see all three (HW, SW, Services) as parts of a complete OpenPhoenux system. If we look at what the big players are doing, it can be summarised as: they fight to capture the user. They want to bring back the mainframe concept (logically centralised services + dumb terminals) and use that to provide walled (zoological?) gardens where the user does no longer have any ownership of the data. They can even find out things about us we don't know ourselves (at least we are not aware of). So everything is about incapacitating the users like the Borg does. Apparently half of the world population is happily accepting this, because the devices are cheap, the software is glamourously polished. And the services are apparently useful. And because the neighbour also has it. Like a mouse in an experiment. And we

Yes, basically they compare the features and price of gta04 with those of the most common devices (iphoneZ,,, samsung galaxy...). They also complain that some of the hw is obsolete or absent (camera); also that the os shipped (debian) doesn't actually allow to make/get calls. Ok, everybody knows a lower price could push more users to buy it, but that's like reinventing the wheel. What surprises me a bit is that too often reviewers are comparing a mass product with something which is not. They are different objects, like comparing a bicycle and a motorcycle. It is not clear in the mainstream view that gta04 has been created following different criteria from the mass production. It is not a device suitable for everybody; if we (community, producers etc) wanted a mass product, then it would have been made following the mass market rules (working conditions etc) Reading such kind of reviews disappoint me. u. They look like this: http://qtmoko.sourceforge.net/screenshots/abc.png http://qtmoko.sourceforge.net/screenshots/qwerty.png Layouts are completely customizable. You can easily change key size, position, background. It's very easy to add international characters and new layouts. Just have a look at /opt/qtmoko/etc/im/svgkbd/ The layouts are normal svg images. You can use inkscape to open and edit them. It should be very clear what to do. Only thing to explain is how you should name the key XML elements. In Inkscape go to Edit-XML editor and click on key. The element name must be in form: key_QtKeycode_unicode For possible QtKeycode values check this link[4] and for unicode values use your favourite unicode character map. Please not that my layouts are just very simple. If you manage to create better ones i will be glad to replace them. I can also make your national keyboards variants easily installable from qtmoko apps page. As for the other changes - you can now make clickable elements in themes that launch scripts in qterminal. So e.g. you can have icon on homescreen with your favourite script. For example how to do it check what happens when you click the new wifi icon in finxi theme (search for setDocument string here [5]). Another nice thing is atmospheric pressure indicator on GTA04 homescreen or number of gps sattelites/fix indicator on title bar. One more is freecell game - you can now waste a lot of time here :) GTA04 owners can now enjoy latest 3.4 kernel thanks to Neil Brown's amazing kernel work. I have been running this kernel for several days and all works perfectly. No regressions were spotted. Many thanks for this Neil. Thanks also everyone for their support and work. Enjoy the release! Re: Phone wakes up after being powered off
My phone has always suffered for this weird bug too. No matter which distro I use, if I turn it off, even by taking away the battery and after some minutes putting it back, after some minutes the haunted fr goes back to life. This is especially a botehr when you have an alarm set on qtmoko and didn't use it when the alarm should ring: it rings once the os is up and running; it's a bother when you turn off the pphone and go to sleep and then it wakes up and begin to ring for the old alarm Sorry, I didn't find any solution. Re: [Marketing] Ideas / Plan
Marketing strategies can also be planned for two different targets: 1st: developers, skilled users, hackers, geeks, etc, etc. In this phase marketing is mean to publish, inform and possible sale the product to those interested in the above activities 2nd: once the product will be stable enough and usable for an average iphone user, then a marketing strategy could be planned to reach the big market. In my opinion, without the first, it would be much more difficult for our community to compete (ok, I know this is such a big word..) with mainstream products. IF the intention is really to get a phone comparable with other well known products, there's the need of something stable and usable, and this can be reached only with the mass help of developers testers, etc. But if they don't know about it... Mybe talking properly about marketing for the first phase isn't strongly right, however the meaning is to spread the voice, inform, publish to that target which could be interested at the beginning. Therefore I agree with Hassam when he talks about marketing strategies. Re: [qtmoko] pim import
Hi. I've just checked my sim card on another telephone, and it shows the contacts which shouldn't be there because I've previously deleted them. This means that qtmoko has copied them from sqlite to the sim, which after a reboot has imported them back to sqlite, but with the family names truncated at the 4th character (because the sim card doesn't support so many characters for a contact, therefore it's not recognized as a duplicate). This is a behavior which i absolutely want to avoid, how can I avoid qtmoko to copy to/from sim card? The import looks successful, but after rebooting/unmounting the battery or the sim card, my addressbook looks full of duplicated entries, and those duplicates are not an exact copy of another record: the family name is cut after the 4th character, and among the different fields, only the telephone numbers appear, no email, address, category, etc. Weird to say, not all the original contacts have been duplicated (anyway they are the greatest part). [qtmoko] pim import
Hello. During these days I'm trying to import/export pim data to/from qtmoko, but I've some problems. I've deleted all the contacts from the sim card, deleted them all from addressbook on sqlite db, and then imported a vcard file. How can I avoid getting all these duplicated records? Second issue: is there a way to import ical data into the calender and/or the todo of qtmoko? If yes, how? Re: Using Wi-Fi
Hi. Basically, for knowing network configuration type: cat /etc/network/interfaces Freerunner by default uses dhcp for getting an ip address. If you want to use a static IP, you just need to do as I've told you before ifconfig eth0 ipofyourfreerunner where ipofyourfreerunner is the IP address you want to use, for example 192.168.1.100 (must be of the same network class of the notebook wifi card). Mind that both wifi card on freerunner and notebokk must use static IP in this case, which is not the default. So you need to change them. Moreover, if you have used the cable IP address of your notebook as default gateway, as I understood, this doesn't work! You need to use the wifi card IP address of the notebook! At this moment, do not consider the cable adapter of your notebook, think that it doesn't exist. iwconfig output shows the card is up and running. however there's no essid. Even if hidden, i think you should see the name there if you're connected. This can mean that you're out of range or you didn't put the correct essid By the way, you should set the wifi connection in ad-hoc mode on both freerunner and notebook (if supported). On linux you just have to type: iwconfig eth0 mode ad-hoc On the notebook I guess there should be a wizard for setting it up... Last, if it is possible I suggest you to try to connect the freerunner to a real access point first, which maybe could use dhcp and make everything easier for you; you can still exchange files between notebook and fr by connecting both to the same ap. After understanding a bit how it works, then you can try to set an ad-hoc network between teh notebook and the fr, which is a bit more complicate ByeZ urodelo On Thu, 27 May 2010 13:23:59 +0200, Tanmay Mathur tanmay.mathu...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Urodelo, Thanx for your reply! Re: Using Wi-Fi
Hi, I don't know if you already know how to use a linux system, so that you can understand the command line. There are some softwares for enabling the wifi on shr and qtmoko, but with wep basically they never worked for me. However others told me on this ml about an application for shr, called iliwi, which works with wep if you are using dhcp on you access point, if i remember well it already comes with a fresh shr installation. If you can't use it, because don't have a dhcp server, open a terminal window and type following commands: ifconfig eth0 ipofyourfreerunner route add default gw ipofyourwindowspc iwconfig eth0 essid yournetworkessid key yourHEXpassphrase both IP should own to the same network class (ex 192.168.2.202 and 192.2.200). For me, I always need to issue those commands twice for makind it work; I know I'm connected when the 2nd time I get : SIOCADDRT: file exists. Type iwconfig eth0 in a terminal, if it shows that it's associated to the ap/pc, you can now try to ping your default gateway, and if it works, you can transfer the file to your pc. I suggest you to put all the above commmands inside a bash script to run when you need, it'll be faster and easier bye urodelo On Wed, 26 May 2010 21:22:16 +0200, Tanmay Mathur tanmay.mathu...@gmail.com wrote: Hi, I am a beginner trying to connect neo freerunner to a wep wireless network on my laptop using windows. I've partitioned and formatted it by putting it in my mp3 reader (also SanDisk), built 1 fat partition for android and 3 ext. It is great to know all this will be solved in the next release :-) Thanks a lot again On Tue, 20 Apr 2010 15:25:50 +0200, Tom Yates madhat...@teaparty.net wrote: On Tue, 20 Apr 2010, urodelo wrote: Since I use ventura, my whole shr experience is much better. finally a decent web browser! before it was impossible to surf the internet with woosh or others. only dillo was usable for me, but with ventura i can finally go through https too. i find the pg buttons etc very useful. thanks a lot i, too, am much enjoying ventura over previous browsers. that said, i posted this query to shr-user originally, but got no answers, so i thought i'd try here. hope that's OK. i had thought i was having a problem with ventura and https pages, because in menu - URL, the https drop-down doesn't select (i click it, but it keeps coming up http), plus i couldn't follow a link to an https page i wanted (my webmail service). but it seems that https links are fine provided the certificate is properly signed; it's only that i run my own webmail service and the certificate is self-signed. is there any way to tell ventura not to check the certificate chain, but just to load the page? -- Creato con il rivoluzionario client e-mail di Opera: http://www.opera.com/mail/ ___ Openmoko community mailing list community@lists.openmoko.org http://lists.openmoko.org/mailman/listinfo/community

Re: new app - oFart
Oh YES! It's the killer app I was waiting for!! Although it would be more interesting, imho, if it would let me chose among diffent... wav(s)... :-D Ehm... well not bad for the my first message to the community. I'm using the freerunner as solo phone since the past December, with qtmoko as primary distro, shr and since one week, android. I would like to thank you all for your great efforts... uhm I mean in a wide sense... I basically got the freerunner because i believe in its possibilities and in the power of the community. And because i hate iphone users. By the way, i think this application could solve many life problems: -it can give you an excuse to run away when you meet your former gf while walking around with your new lover -it can soften the stress of an exam at the uni -it can persuade the parents of your ugly classmate that you're not the right guy for their daughter -useful for getting a quick discount in a shop instead of one hour of discussion with the clerk -a scenographic way to escape from a police catch and disappear in a cloud of smog... -taking a picture among the public with your most hatred actor/actress in Cannes, running the app and then looking disgusted at him/her -entering inside an iPhone shop and pushing out all the customers However, tomorrow I'll use it inside a bus to see the reactions...
