Re: Debian Install failure: Hash Sum Mismatch

2008-08-28 Thread Fox Mulder
Interesting is, that i updated my NAND uboot to the latest version in
http://downloads.openmoko.org/releases/Om2008.8-update/
which was from 27.8 at the time i downloaded it and it displays
"1.3.2-moko12" at bootscreen. The last version before i used to update
was from a few weeks before from another location and this version has a
date in the version which shows from when it was.
The NOR bootloader also says "1.3.2-moko12" at the bootprompt, why i
don't really know if i upgraded or downgraded my NAND bootloader. ;)
It is a bit confusing that the newest bootloader image now uses the
nearly same identification string as the quite old one in the NOR flash.

Ciao,
 Rainer

Re: Debian Install failure: Hash Sum Mismatch

2008-08-28 Thread Joseph Reeves
I've set the clock speed down and, after a couple of attempts, I
managed to get all stages of the install script to complete. When
trying to boot, however, I am told that I've got an incorrect magic
number and am kicked backed to the u-boot screen. I assumed I had an
old u-boot (it's never been updated since it left the
pre-mass-production production line) but the latest version gives the
same result. It's reported as:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# grep Bootloader /dev/mtdblock1
Neo1973 Bootloader U-Boot 1.3.2-moko12
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# grep Bootloader /dev/mtdblock0
Neo1973 Bootloader U-Boot 1.3.2-rc2-dirty-moko12

Although, is this the latest? Yes, I know there's a lot on the lists
about u-boot already, but please somebody take pity on me ;)

The latest u-boot version according to
http://www.denx.de/wiki/U-Boot/ReleaseCycle is 1.3.4; 1.3.2 was
released on 09 Mar 2008 and the Debian wiki lists success with the
"latest version" released on 2008-08-05.

Off topic, but there does seem to be a problem on the wiki about
finding out release dates and version numbers - it takes a lot to stay
on top of it all.

Any ideas about my current problem would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Joseph

I post this here not a certain fix, but perhaps another road to go
down. A friend and co-worker of mine was having problems installing
Debian as well. He was getting CRC errors on package installs. He
reduced the clock speed of the SD card down to something like only 10%
of it's original speed and the install finally worked. I didn't get
from him how he lowered the clock speed of the card, but finding the
right place /sys involved something like "find /sys | grep clock".
Maybe this could help someone.

Re: Debian Install failure: Hash Sum Mismatch

2008-08-26 Thread Joseph Reeves
I've just got hold of a new (to me) 2 gig card that Debian fails to
install on at almost the same point. I thought it might be a problem
related with the anti-virus on our firewall getting a hammering, so I
whitelisted the debian mirror and tried again, but it fails as before.
I've downloaded a couple of packages and md5sum'ed them - the returned
sums are correct, although I'm not going to go to the hassle of
manually downloading all the packages that failed and copying them
local to my phone.

Anyone have any more ideas?

Sorry, no idea. The only guesses I can make are network problems or
hardware failure. It it were only some packages, it might have been a
bad mirror push, but this looks strange.

Re: Debian Install failure: Hash Sum Mismatch

2008-08-20 Thread Joseph Reeves
Thanks Arne,

This all happens when running the install script, however, so unless
I'm being particularly dense, I never have the option to run the apt-
commands myself; it just tries and fails.

I'm using the 512 card that shipped with the gta01. I think it's the
same as the one that came with the FreeRunner, although I lost that
one whilst drunk in a Chicken Cottage (it was in my wallet after I had
removed it from the phone to fix the GPS troubles).

I'll try with a different card.

Cheers,

Joseph

i step in the right direction would have been to shorten the mail before
replying ;-)

first thing i'd try would be
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
if the errors persist, either your sd card is faulty or apt has issues or
the infamous sd card bug strikes again (how big is your sd card?) ...

download the archive(s) manually and compare the checksums
# apt-cache show fso-utils
Package: fso-utils
Version: 0.git20080812.2
Architecture: all
Maintainer: Joachim Breitner <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Installed-Size: 76

SHA1: 67fbec63110961999e3e3dde81316e251e71baf5
MD5sum: 6134ea91b8da82d393a13ef012e907db
Description: Useful tools for the freesmartphone.org system

6134ea91b8da82d393a13ef012e907db fso-utils_0.git20080812.2_all.deb

if the sums are the same, the package is most likely ok. put it into
/var/cache/apt/archives/.
do so with the others.
now do
apt-get upgrade
it should work now -- if not you're probably out of look with your sd card.

Debian Install failure: Hash Sum Mismatch

2008-08-19 Thread Joseph Reeves
Following the instructions on the Debian wiki, but I get Hash Sum
Mismath errors on the whilst it fetches packages for apt. Sorry for
the big cut and paste, but it works until here then dies. Tried twice,
both times it fails at the same point:
