Actually first post in this thread was writing after trying it.

Only Debian based images were slow and this has been already resolved. I
am now in the middle of integrating X applications in QtMoko, so i dont
have time to do perfect release. Hopefully this will happen soon :)

om2009, latest version works great on mine. no changes or other config
needed, install and go is all you have to do

shr-unstable works not quite as reliably and sometimes needs some
minor fiddling, but is still good and worth looking at

lol, i would put exactly the other way - om2009 needs fiddling for me,
SHR-u works out of box. Any new user: please be aware that each single
device is a bit different, especially when it comes to audio volume.

Anyways, for me, SHR-U is a stable phone that doesn't require any kind
of adjustment to have a working phone right after flashing.

i should say that i haven't used 2009 for over a month now, so my
impressions may be for a previous testing release

Re: Any distro with working calls?

I've had pretty good luck with both QtEI (now called qtmoko) and OM2009TR5 -
On OM2009 I had to tweak the default alsa config a bit. A thread about it,
with what I did and various comments is at
http://n2.nabble.com/-om2009-r4--Warren%27s-Settings-Worked-for-Me-%28was-Re%3A-Om2009-testing--release-4%29-tp3022756p3022756.html
- note that there is some debate over whether this is a good idea.

If you are having problems with the audio quality, I'd suggest you get a
buzz fix as soon as possible. Until then, I'd suggest you tweak the alsa
config file to see if you can get something usable - my process was to set
my laptop next to a landline - run alsamixer via ssh, and then dial the
landline from my FR. I then basically experiemented with the controls
described in http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Neo_Freerunner_audio_subsystemuntil
I got something relatively buzz-free that still let me hear the other
end.

 Dear community,

I'm very happy to see developer's activity among us. There are many
versions of bootloaders, kernels and distributions. They allow us to
start a X server and play simple games. They allow us to bring Linux

But let's not forget that FreeRunner is a smartphone. Every phone
(even not-so-smart) allows user to make and receive a calls -- without
noize, buzz and strong echo, without the mandatory use of headsets. Is
it possible with FreeRunner? Currently I'm only able to make a calls
with headset -- at low-level volume, but at least without echo and
noize. I can't receive them because of strong echo and very loud
 volume.

If I'm wrong and there *is* a way to make and receive a calls without
pain, please point me to this wonderful distribution and wiki-page

 p. s. I'm sorry for this rant in bad English, but I can't wait any longer.

Hi list,

Robin, Petr, thanks, I will try om2009 and SHR tomorrow. Last time I
tried they was hardly usable.

As of last week there is a new release of android available at koolu:
 http://www.koolu.org/releases/cupcake-1.5-alpha1/
stable, polished, also the battery issue seems to have been solved.
Isn't that the one that cannot receive calls...?
Yeah, it can't now -- people calling me says that my line is busy. But
I'm _very_ impressed by Android. I hope receiving issue will be fixed
soon.

Will do soon.

I've had pretty good luck with both QtEI (now called qtmoko)...
Ah, it's a sore point. I'm a Qt developer and I really like Qt. But
with QtExt 4.4.3 I was only possible to make outgoing calls with
headset at more-or-less good quality level. All ingoing calls a
_extremely_ loud, with strong echo, etc.
And than I tried qtmoko (Qt Extended Improved)... Slow, very unstable.
Actually first post in this thread was writing after trying it.
