Have not got my Neo jet (hope it's soon), but I think the form factor is
good based on earlier use of a touch screen smart phone (Qtech 1010). I
think the size and shape will make it fit nicely in one hand and be
operated with the same hands thumb. Small (physical) screen reduce the
need to stretch Your thumb to reach the whole screen, some space between
the phones edge and the screens edge is good as my experience is it's
hard to reach to close to the thumb (if you rest the phone natural in
the hand).

Two-hand operation will more or less always work almost any form factor.
But the Q1010 is to big to be a comfortable one-hand device... Belive
the Neo to be just right... Then... No size fits all.

Anyway, it's too late to start from scratch and be ready in 6 month. Now
is time to focus on getting the software and interface good. I'm
experimenting with an input method, but right now I'm waiting until I
receive my Neo... I really need to test it on a real device to get the
feel of it (and hopefullyy the project site's svn is fixed by then).

If we succeed at OpenMoko the software platform sure there will be loots
of phone using it, from FIC and others, and probably some will use the
'iphone' form factor... Don't worry :-)

The neo's screen is already bigger- it has more pixels.
No. The dimensions of the Neo's screen are smaller at 2.5 diag versus 3.5
diag. for the iPhone. Yes, the VGA resolution is impressive and superior
to the iPhone, but for a touch screen interface, you must maximize the
screen size to device plan form ratio so you can make touch screen
keyboarding work without annoying the user with constant finger-tip typos.
Use an iPhone and you'll see that the inferior resolution is not a
problem.

In any case, the neo isn't about schnazz, it's about freedom. Kind of
like PC hardware vs mac hardware. PC hardware is open and awesome- you
can pick from 500 different motherboards, gfx cards, vendors, etc.,
unlike the apple-only mac, but pc hardware isn't as schnazzy looking as
macs.

IMO the neo isn't and should be trying to be schnazzy, I think you're
wrong about matching up to the iphone's look.

Once again...Form factor is the point here. Not Styling. Trim it
different, use day-glo plastics! I don't care. Just make sure it is about
the same dimensions, predominately rectangular, and has a flush glass
screen.

Although I do hope the neo comes in colors, that would be appropriate to
the freedom thing.

The first thing I bought as an iPhone accessory was a pack of six Silicone
iPhone jackets, all in different colors. My wife grabbed the Girly Pink
one, and I took the manly black one!

In my humble opinion, and I know I'm going to take a lot of arrows for
this, FIC needs to halt the GTA02 work and re-form factor the design to
have a larger, glass protected screen.
