Re: Can't get the phone registered (ticket #1766)

2008-08-23 Thread Xavier Vens
I had the same problem, i have deleted the files in /var/lib/opkg, and
using only the testing branch, after deleting i made opkg update
followed by a opkg upgrade, and it works well for me. I didn't use the
dev branch.

I am using the stock om2008.8 images, and with both zecke-dev and
zecke-testing repos, I'm getting errors like the following while doing opkg
upgrade (after opkg update) for a lot of packages/libraries:

Failed to download qtopia-phone-x11-taskmanager-app-data. Perhaps you need

What am I doing wrong? And why doesn't somebody test basic phone functions

I had the same problem with the image
http://download.enlightenment.org/misc/, but after adding the testing
branch of http://people.openmoko.org/~zecke/ i can dialout/receiving
calls/ receiving system sms from provider voicemail/ receiving normal
sms from friends.

1 i have installed the images from
http://download.enlightenment.org/misc/ (20080815)
2 i deleted files in the /var/lib/opkg folder
3 create the zecke.conf file in /etc/opkg (om2008.8-testing)
4 opkg update
5 opkg upgrade and reboot
6 started the dialer, entring my pin code

it's works well, now let's see the stability ;)

how can I debug the dialer?

I now did the same as Julien. (raster's image + zecke testing opkg
update, opkg upgrade) I'm using GTA02 (is anybody still using GTA01 here?)

As written in #1766 registering to GSM works now and I can make calls.

But something is really wrong - the dialer application is extermly slow.
I touch a number... and 37 seconds later it appears.

Did anybody experince the same?
"opkg update" displayed many missing packages - could this be the reason
or is it normal?

I did basically the same except that I started by flashing raster's
image (from http://download.enlightenment.org/misc/) and the phone isn't
slower than before.

how did you use it?

I did like suggested in http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Om_2008.8_Guide

the Om 2008 kernel and rootfs image.

Than I did a "opkg upgrade". Now the phone seems to be really slow,
almost unusable. Is this normal with Om2008.8 ?

I think I found the cause of this particular problem. I have installed
openmoko-dialer2, and that creature quietly installed gsmd daemon, which
conflicts with qutopia's qpe. I noticed it when phone registered somehow
and they both started to race to pick a call up. Seems to me that opkg
does not do its job taking care of conflicting software.

Seems to help a bit. It feels lame rebooting linux.

You can try setting the LCD brightness of the display manually throught
you SSH connection. While it's no solution to your suspend problem it
might save you from rebooting.

You guys are lucky. Mine does not receive calls at all on startup. I do
not have any PIN, so it does not ask me for one. Moreover it does not
wake up after suspend - the screen is blank. I am not even sure it
suspends properly, cause I still able to ssh into it and if I issue apm
-s at that time it gives me apm: Device or resource busy. Only reboot is
the solution. I saw it register only tree/four times. All when I was
playing with default GPS program, but it may be only coincidence. Qtopia
also suffers from it, but not at that extent - it usually recovers
signal after awhile.

register that the GSM is online after a minute or so.

Can't get the phone registered (ticket #1766)

2008-08-20 Thread julien cubizolles
There is at the moment a very nasty bug on the phone software of ASU and
FSO images.

Basically most of the time (more than 9 out of 10) you can't get the
phone registered after the PIN code is entered. This means you can't
make a call but strangely you can always receive calls.

Sometimes (quite often) you get registered after receiving a call and
receiving the call while in suspend mode seems to make you a little
luckier but maybe it's just wishful thinking. Some suggestions were made
(upgrade with http://people.openmoko.org/zecke/qtopia-testing feeds) but
didn't fix the problem.

I never add any problem regarding registration with 2007.2 and still
don't have any with the latest Qtopia image. I could stick with Qtopia
for the time being but would very much test ASU. Could it be possible to
somehow get from the Qtopia image the right files/packages/whatever to
just fix the telephony part ?

Julien.
