Just restore the headset.state alsa settings. Om2008.x seems not to do
this on headset jack insertion.

Thanks for the hint,

I have tried to change the settings for "Left *" and "Right *" but it doesn't
seem to help. All those switches just change the volume of the left (or is it
the right?) side. Probably there is another setting causing this behaviour. I
will try it again whe I have more time.

Have you tried it with qtopia too?

I am using a Nokia Headset (HS-47) which has a different pin layout, but
the wires
can be switched very easily (in the little box containing butten +
microphone):
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Analog_wired_Headset_Nokia

At first I had the same problem with stereo output, but it worked
without problems on qtopia,
so I new it was not a hardware problem.

On FDOM i did:

alsactl -f /usr/share/openmoko/scenarios/headset.state restore

to make it work.

The problem I have at the moment is, that it does not automatically
switch to headphones when I plug them in,
but i have to switch between modes manually (as above).

maybe someone knows what to do?
I'll let you now, if i find something out...

If this happens with your normal OM headset, too, then your mixer settings are
probably wrong. I had the same problem too at the beginning, but fiddling around
with the 'Left Mixer Left' and 'Right Mixer Right' playback switches (I think
those were the ones, if not try other switches with left/right in their names)
in alsamixer (i.E. turning them on) did the trick for me :)

There are quite a few emails about this about the time the FR was first
released. It has a rare, specific 4 contact plug. There are only a few
out there that work properly. If you have to resort to pulling it
partly to work or have mono sound - you are likely to have the wrong
one.

Note that the alsa state files have also had problems at times and may

2008-10-29 Thread Thomas Hauth
I bought an adapter at the local electronics store ( "Saturn" in
Germany). It fits pretty well into the FR socket. But I only have sound
on one side of the headset, even if the pluf is fully connected. I'm not
sure if this is a plug-related problem or a misconfiguration of the
moko-audio-subsystem. Does anybody know more about this? If I'm not able
to fix this via software configuration, I plan to connect the 2 stereo
channels by soldering to at least have a mono signal on both earplugs.

I bought this connector:
http://www1.at.conrad.com/scripts/wgate/zcop_at/~flN0YXRlPTM5NzYwMDU3MjU=?~template=pcat_product_details_document&product_show_id=730520&no_brotkrumennavi=1&zhmmh_area_kz=LN
It does not fit very well. The metal-base of the connector has a to large
diameter. Since the headset socket of the Freerunner is a bit inside of the
case the connector has only full contact if I press in the connector really
hard (the case caves in a bit). As soon as I stop pressing the plug goes back
outside a bit again and looses contact again. So you have to make sure that
the base of the connector is not to large (this is somewhat similar to the
headset connector problem that was there at the first iPhone).
Maybe as a suggestion for improvement for further OpenMoko phones would be
that the headset socket should be not be to far in the device.
I'm now thinking about buying a Nokia headset and making an adapter out of it,
since those have plugs that are normally smaller than those for
self-soldering.

I did not add anything in between. I can't complain about the audio quality

notice anything).

I can't recommend this connector. It works, but not very well. I have to
pull out
the connector aprox. 1 mm to get stereo output. And this position is not

I'm using my selfmade adapter only to connect to some line inputs. As these
have a high impedance, the sound quality is ok.

DIY Audioadaptor

2008-10-28 Thread Fabian Henze
Hi,
I was about to solder myself an adaptor to use my headphones with the
FreeRunner as an ogg/flac player. I have found some jacks, which seem to good
for this task (german website):
http://www.reichelt.de/?;ACTION=3;LA=2;GROUP=C161;GROUPID=3237;ARTICLE=47784
http://www.reichelt.de/?;ACTION=3;LA=2;GROUP=C161;GROUPID=3237;ARTICLE=47785
http://www.reichelt.de/?;ACTION=3;LA=2;GROUP=C161;GROUPID=3237;ARTICLE=9410

Now I wonder, whether
a) the jack inside the fr is compatible to the ones of reichelt?
b) I just need to connect the jacks with a proper cable or do I have to solder
some resistor, capacitor or sth, different in between to work around the bad
sound quality some people have noticed?
