Well, telephony under OM2008.8 doesn't work for me (bug #1766, https://docs.openmoko.org/trac/ticket/1766), so I'm trying to install FSO. If I understand correctly, telephony is handled differently in 2008.8 and FSO, where it's a qtopia app in 2008.8, and FSO is writing a dbus service to handle
