Ah, so this is what the pick is for. Thx.

Remove the back
Undo the torx
Starting at the antenna end, run fingernail along the seams, with
moderate pressure.

The nail simply pops in at one point.
Run it all the way round the circumference of the neo.
Job done.
I've never bothered getting the pick out.

Is the usb cable really needed by most people? There is bluetooth & wifi
for synching and people could always just go buy one if needed. It's my
understanding it will be a standard mini-usb to usb. Somehow I have at
least 5 of those sitting in my office. Maybe just tell people in the
quickstart guide what kind of cable they'll need to attach usb peripherals
or charge from a computer. I think that a usb cable would be easier for
people to find & buy than headphones with a specific impedance. If the
quickstart doesn't have a recommended headphone impedance range one should
probably be added - especially since I heard some people were having issues
with low headphone volume because of the impedance.

No, no, you should include a sewing pattern for the official pouch in the
box. It would be neat to have an official Openmoko pouch for your phone,
but it would be even better if that pouch was handmade by each owner for
their own phone. Especially if the instructions have configuration

This was at least so with the Neo 1973.

The battery, SIM and MMC compartment is easily to open with bare
fingers. (Really, you don't need the guitar pick)
If you lost your fingernails in a horrible freak accident or any other

Going down to the debug port needs a torx screwdriver anyway.

The guitar pick is a nice nerdy idea. But completely useless. *g*

Getting to the debug port, at least as described in the wiki, needs both
the torx screwdriver and the guitar pick. You are opening the front
cover for that, not the back cover (which can be opened with your
fingers alone, and is where the battery is). See
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Disassembling_Neo1973#Carefully_remove_top_cover

Who would say suchs things?

Of course I think you *MUST* fit a pony in the box. The freerunner
will never be popular without a pony. I got a pony with my last phone
and everyone wants a pony! Also you can get much cheaper ponies in
Asia then I can around here. So those who don´t want a pony can throw
it in the bin or turn it into dinner.

Also buying a non-openmoko pony just isn´t the same thing. Even if I
can use the openmoko logo to brand the pony myself...

Ok, thanks...! The pouch thing, anyway, it isn't just a request of an
accessory: we'd like to have a pouch that fits well our phone, that
protects it against the daily usage and that "spams" out a little openmoko!

If I should think to a commercial pouch to be used with Freerunner,
well, I've no idea! Unfortunately I neither can wait that someone of us
would start selling an "unofficial" openmoko pouch, since I want protect
my phone as soon as I've it out of the box!

Michael and I are talking about using the pouch as a give away in certain

But I had to optimize to get the price down to the level I thought people
deserved.

RE: Steve on V5 versus v6

2008-04-20 Thread steve
The pouch, alas, did not fit into the box. When Michael gets his photos
done, or my spawn get their video done, then you will see that we have
greatly reduced the size of the box. Partly for aesthetics, and partly to
create a product where I could pack 10 phones boxes in a bigger box, and
then ship that bigger box efficiently. So, I had to optimize some things.

Now, I realize that people want accessories. So As this launch gets going
I'll put together some ideas, for accessory packs

Fundamentally, I would rather that some community member build a business
around this. Our marketing materials are open source. So, you can build
your own pouches, use our brand, and make a business from accessories.

Steve on V5 versus v6

2008-04-19 Thread steve

First some clarification. I have a totally different understanding of the
LED situation.
So let me check with folks before clarifying.

In any case, I will find out the information on the real differences. And
also if any apps actually use the LEDS.

I know some of the a5/a6 changes were made just to make it easier for us to
build.

As far as the goodies in the box go. Whether it's an A5 or a A6, the box
will the following at least.
I'm still sorting through some issues.

1. phone.
2. Battery
3. Custom Charger
4. Sdcard.
5. Stylus.
6. USB cable.

Sometime down the road I will pull out the Sdcard and try to put in a
branded Neo stylus. No promises.

Headset, I am working on. No promises.

Well, for me it's important to have a good hardware, if it has some known
issue i would prefer that they sould be solved, if this LED bug could be
fixed with a simple transistor replacement, this transistor is in the
GTA02v5 box and it's possible for a normal guy with a little soldering
skills to replace this transistor it's not a problem (read something like
"if i can do that it's ok :D").
If the issue is something that can't be solved it's something that goes
opposite of what is GTA02 for, a solid hardware platform.
"Every commercial product has bug" it's not a good point.
