Hi, I don't know if somebody else did this already, but I didn't find anything in the wiki... I wrote a small Python script to quickly turn the LEDs of the Freerunner on and off for testing purposes. There's also has a slider to set the intensity of the vibrator. But since I don't anything about Python I only altered the mokoservices.py to fulfill my needs and tested it only under FDOM, so please be gentle :-) The script is available for download here [1]. I'm also planning on putting some more buttons in the original mokoservices.py to put the device in USB host mode, so let me know if your interested. Today, I held the Motorola Razr 2 (V8) in my hands and I'm very impressed of the feeling of tactile feedback of the screen buttons. I don't like that the list is loaded with stuff like IR portRemote control applications Would be great to use openmoko as a Hamony remote controller. However, adding extra hardware to the phone so it can do things not within the sensibility of the majority of users is not a good practice. A corollary to changing the speed of the vibration is creating the bass of a ringtone out of vibrating the surface beneath the phone. The last Nokia I had did this for some of its polyphonic ringtones, but only to emphasize the bass, not produce it. The intention of a vibrator is to silently alert you when the phone is in your pocket. I think the sound of vibration on a table is an awful horrible sound, and often results in the phone vibrating itself off the table too.
