I know no such way. This part is currently missing in SHR, so maybe it
is not a good distro for you yet.

As for the question which one of the files on this server
 http://build.shr-project.org/shr-testing/images/om-gta02/ is the Kernel
needed there seems to be two different ones.

These two are actually the same. With time there may be several kernels
in that directory, with different versions.
uImage-om-gta02-latest.bin is always a copy of the latest among them, so
that people who don't follow version numbers and kernel development
simply can grab the latest kernel, whatever it might be.

Try SHR. My SIM card which won't work with 2009.12 and 2008.12
 annoyingly works fine with it.

I flashed SHR on my phone and at first it took it a while to register my
SIM but now everything is working fine, it took me a while to get use to the
change in ringers though XP

Well I went ahead and gave it a try, if I don't like it I can easily flash
something else on it, but it seems that once you have SHR running contacts
are able to be added by hand but I don't know if they are saved to the SIM
card or to the phone.

I figured something like that so I went ahead and grabbed the

Sure, you can add contacts manually, and they will be saved to the SIM.

What to do when apps keep crashing?

2009-03-03 Thread Adam Jimerson
Lately my freerunner seems to have gotten more unstable, some of the things
that it is doing include:
1. Not wanting to fully connect during phone calls, it says it is connected
but I can't hear them and they can't hear me (this may be a problem with my
carrier, T-Moble sucks around here)
2. Sound not working, I had my phone in vibrate and ring which use to work
but now it only vibrates
3. The config app crashes when I try and launch it, so I can't change any of
its setting like turn on or off services, can't connect to wifi, etc...
4. GPS doesn't fully work, in the sets program that comes with FDOM it takes
a couple of minutes before it starts finding satelites but in TangoGPS it
never can find any even after 10+ minutes.
5. Installing/upgrading a program with opkg breaks it

I have expectecd problems like these when I bought my freerunner but I can't
find a fix for any of them, flashing my kernel and distro only delays the
problem, it always comes back if not there after flashing it.

These two seems to be the same thing. Something is wrong with sound,
so you get no ringtone and no sound when connected.

 3. The config app crashes when I try and launch it, so I can't change

In an emergency, log in with ssh. Most configuration can be changed
in the /etc directory.

One thing to check when everything breaks is if the filesystem is
full. It may fill up over time because of logfiles.
Try the command df.

Time for another distribution maybe - FDOM is kind of old?

I don't think FDOM is recommended really anymore... at least not the
stable version.

For a FDOM like experience on 2008.12 install the 2008.12 image then run
Kustomizer http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Kustomizer

There are some things that won't be better, but in some things there is
a marked difference. one thing to realise is that the group of programs
installed may well differ.

let us know how you get on,

I know pulseaudio likes to mess up sound but that is not installed on my FR.

While my root filesysem is larger than I would like it, at 65% used it is

I will give SHR Testing a try

First off sorry about reposting, but after looking at the SHR wiki page
there is one concern and a question

On the wiki page this is listed under the Known Issues

 Address Book

SHR is not implementing a PIM (Personal Information Manager) yet. Work is in
progress, but to included in SHR testing this has some consequences on daily
use:

   - Only contacts on the SIM card are available.

   - It is not possible to import a Vcard file.
  - It seems to be possible with
thisgopher://gopher.fnordpol.de/9/data/DbusAccessScripts_0.0.0.tar.gzscript
written by
  Zem http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/User:Zem#DBus_Access_Scripts.

None of my contacts are on my SIM card and it would take forever to move all
of them onto it, the link the the script quoted is a dead link does anyone
have a correct link they can point me to or a suggested app that can read
Vcards so I can import my contacts from FDOM, copied onto my MicroSD card,
into SHR?

I know it is possible to transfer contacts to a 2008.12 distro with the

write a how to but :-/
