Friends,

Unlike many of the really nice urban gardening books cranked out by
journalists, garden writers and folks who have never put in a single volunteer
gardening hour, "Garden Your City," by Barbara Hoben Feldt is the real thing -
a well written book on urban gardening, and gardening in public spaces by
someone who goes toe-to-toe in her garden wellies with public officials on a
regular basis.

Barbara Feldt is one of those tenacious, difficult people (though she would
never characterize herself as such - she views herself as "sweet and calm,")
that more folks would call indispensible if she kissed more fanny.

Extremely knowledgeable, competent and indispensible, the forward to the book
is written by Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, who knew to write it, or else.

In all serousness, this book is filled with the inner dope on how to transform
disused public and private land, fix it up and keep it going with a minimum of
muss, fuss, with time to engage in hundreds of "New York Minute," activities,
while sipping a rum-and-coke from a straw.

I gardened with this lady just last Saturday, in Dewitt Clinton Park - Martha
could learn things from her.

Best wishes,
Adam Honigman
