I've never had much luck with the refill kits for my Stylewriter carts. I
think my problem is that I wait too long before refilling the cartridge so that
the sponge inside is already dried out and will not accept the ink being
injected(merely overflows). I think the secret is to refill just at the right
time, while the sponge still has some wetness, but it's difficult determining
when that right time is!

Antwort: Re: Printer Ink

Apple didn't manufactor any printer: All Stylewriter-Printer are original
Canon Hardware in a Apple Case with Apple Firmware. The Stylewriter Printer
are equivalent to Canon BJ200 (b/w) and Canon BJC240 (color). The Apple
Catridges were build by Canon, BC02 and BC05 are the original products for
your Stylewrites.

There was an interesting alternative for BC02 in Germany: Pelikan
Click-Tank. Pelikan has splitted inktank and printhead for BC02. When the
Printhead dryed, you must only click ones on the top of the tank and the
ink clean's the head, you can easily refill the tank. Perfect solution for
Ones-a-Year-Printer like me.

Anybody else who encountered this problem?
Thanks

As others have mentioned, Canon cartridges work fine (many -- maybe all -- in
the Stylewriter series used Canon guts), and replacements are widely available.
Another option is to use a generic refill kit. These are inexpensive (shop
around) and work well (despite what the OEM manufacturers say). The drawback is
the mess and bother, but at least it's one more option.

I think one of the models was an HP clone...one of the
newer (1996-1997) era printers...but the rest were all
Canons to my knowledge. If I'm not mistaken, most of
the LaserWriters were also Canons, or at least around
Canon engines. I do know the ImageWriter was made by
C. Itoh.

Never thought of refill kits. Not my top choice
because of inconvenience but I guess the savings would
make sense with this being an older printer (I keep
having to remind myself that 1991, when the first SW
came out, was a long time ago...seems like yesterday
was 1991)

The black cartridge for the 1500, 1200, II, and original StyleWriter is a
Canon BC-02, available everywhere, even Wal-Mart.

The color cartridge, for the 1500 only, I *think* is a BC-05. But you
should check that one out with any of the 3rd party ink supply web sites
that show all the compatibility info.

There are similar Canon equivalents for StyleWriters 2400 and 2500.

By the way, I'm always interested in donations or low-cost purchases of
StyleWriters II through 2500. I combine them with beige Macs which I give
away to kids at the school where my wife works. Contact me by email off

On my old StyleWriters, I always get the Staples brand
cartridges. They've always worked for me. I'm not 100%
positive about that 1500 color tank, but the Staples
cartridge should have the model on the side (I think
the one I got for my 2400 did).

Apple stopped making ink around 2001 or so. Not a big
loss (not quite like August 31, 1998 which was
doomsday for us compact Mac people...Apple quit making
parts that day!)

Going to an Apple store was your first mistake. First check your
favorite office supply retailer, either online or the real store. If
not, check eBay. You're sure to find one there.

Those are remanufactured cartridges, but they aren't by Canon. They
are compatible with Canon and Apple printers. You could use the Canon
part number to find cartridges at a store or online.
