The problem is related with the compiz feature 'rotate cube' and maybe other similar features that move you around multiple desktops e.g. desktop wall etc. As you can see in the video attached (gnome- panel+compiz_bug.ogv) it doesn't matter if you have enabled or not individual options like Edge
