The problem is related with the compiz feature 'rotate cube' and maybe
other similar features that move you around multiple desktops e.g.
desktop wall etc. As you can see in the video attached (gnome-
panel+compiz_bug.ogv) it doesn't matter if you have enabled or not
individual options like Edge

I just tried it, and it doesn't seem to work yet. I'm setting it to
confirmed, as this are now three people having this problem already.

It actually would require a new feature in the cube plugin to work, thus
Wishlist. However, we are not going to do this for Ubuntu and upstream
won't do it because they consider it a hack so I'm just going to close
the bug.

...I'm sure anyone that actually read this noticed what was wrong
immediately: Using old old versions of experimental plugins. I
uninstalled them and now everything seems to work. Who would've guessed?
