[computer-go] June KGS Computer Go tournament: 19x19, an hour each

2007-05-30 Thread Jacques BasaldĂșa
We all think about UCT all day long, ;-) but universal time is called
UTC. The acronym is far from obvious, because:

"The International Telecommunication Union

wanted Coordinated Universal Time to have a single abbreviation for all
languages. English
speakers and French
speakers each wanted the initials of their respective languages' terms
to be used internationally: "CUT" for "coordinated universal time" and
"TUC" for "temps universel coordonné". This resulted in the final
compromise of using UTC." as I quoted from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_Universal_Time

[computer-go] June KGS Computer Go tournament: 19x19, an hour each

2007-05-29 Thread Nick Wedd
The June 2007 KGS computer Go tournament will be next Sunday, June 3rd,
in the Asian evening, European morning and American night, starting at
08:00 UCT (GMT) and ending at about 16:00 UCT (GMT).

It will use full-sized boards, Chinese rules with 7.5 points komi, and
slow time limits (58 minutes absolute). Each division will be a
four-round Swiss. There are details at
http://www.gokgs.com/tournInfo.jsp?id=293 for the Formal division, and
at http://www.gokgs.com/tournInfo.jsp?id=294 for the Open.

Registration is now open. To enter, please read and follow, as usual,
the instructions at http://www.weddslist.com/kgs/how/index.html. The
rules are given at http://www.weddslist.com/kgs/rules.html.

There is a change to the registration procedure. Instead of sending
your registration to me at my usual address, please send it (with the
words "KGS Tournament Registration" in the title as usual) to me at
maproom at gmail dot com (converted to a valid address in the obvious
way).
It doesn't actually matter on this occasion, and I shall accept
registrations sent to my usual address. But I would like everyone to
start using the gmail address for registrations, so that I will in
future be able to run these events while away from home. (I have my
email system set up so that emails to my usual address are all
downloaded and spam-filtered on my home machine, and emails to the gmail
address above are accessible from anywhere via a browser.)
