I am using a computer that has these specs:
2.4Ghz Acer
Win XP Pro
512MB RAM
149GB HD
3.5 1.44 FD
Now, When I click on 'System', in the 'Control Panel', it consistently tells
me, there is only 504MB RAM. That says to me, that something is wrong with the
RAM but, it isn't keeping the computer
I was already thinking the same thing.
It isn't my computer but, for the essence of what you suggested, I agree 100%

Modern RAM DIMMs are actually made up of lots of smaller RAM chips.

There is no separate video card in this machine, which is why, I detest using
this PC. Mine is having some upgrading done to it. Mine has a separate video
card.
This PC is a 2.4Ghz piece of junk.

I would love to boost the video, along with do a bunch of other things to it.

It doesn't have the latest software.

do you have the latest video software in it. the big thing about later
versions
of video software is conflict resolution.
I will check the RAM, again.

I have a couple of machines that have video chip on board. One cheap compaq
and
one cheap ACER. I stuck a couple of cheap memory chips in both, and both work

I can't do it because, it doesn't belong to me.

it's a free download, should do it unless you are not allowed to muck with
the
machine.
I went to Google and, started doing a search with the keywords, 'Windows wont
install'. While I was perusing the results, I came upon one, that talked about
cleaning the disc so, I took out my CD disc cleaner and, tried that.
Then I booted the computer with the disc and, F6 for the external
Tony, I won't do that but, I seriously appreciate the chuckle it gave me. I
really appreciate that. Thank you.

Since you asked specifically for *any ideas*...
Forget it. Get a cheap ATA drive and
That is how it is set.
The 'Primary Master', 'Primary Slave', along with the 'Secondary Slave' are set
to 'NONE', in the BIOS. The 'Secondary Master' notes the IDE CD-R/W.

Fred, At first, I would agree with you 100%. The only part that, doesn't quite
make it 100%, is that, I had this problem before I decided to set it up as a
RAID.
I have repeatedly gone into the computer BIOS(not the Adaptec BIOS) to find the
option that would allow(or disallow) XP to see the
I am 'on the fence'(not agreeing or, disagreeing) about that possibility since,
'F2' for the Automated System Recovery does respond yet 'F6'(for loading
external drivers) does not.

It is listed on the website. Regardless of that, when I press F6, it doesn't
respond. I did download the drivers from Adaptec's website but, since F6 won't
respond, I can't do that. Prior to this fiasco, I made it so, the system
booted from the XP Pro Setup disc. I reformatted a couple
That is what I was thinking. But, Nothing happens when I press F6.

No, you don't want a bootable floppy. XP prompts you to insert a floppy when
you press F6 and reads the drivers from there.
On 10/10/07,
If anyone is confused by the subject, I apologize. I put it that way for
simplicity.
In the past week, I have had a problem that has, sort of flip-flopped. I
originally had an AHA-19160 in my tower until, my hard drive seemingly
disappeared from the card's BIOS. While the drive disappeared
Tony, I laughed at myself, when you asked that question. That was rather vague
of me.
The AHA-19160 and, AHA-39320 are Host Adapters, made by Adaptec.
As for the prompt, I see that, when I try to install XP Pro but, when I press
F6, nothing happens. I know nothing is wrong with the keyboard.
I would give that credence, except, I can press both, DEL to access the CMOS
Setup and, Ctrl-A to access the SCSI BIOS so, I know the keyboard is working.

Maybe your keyboard hasn't been recognized yet. Try
I went on alt.periphs.scsi, earlier and, looked through the archives. Another
person had a problem similar to mine. They were told to re-install the 19160
then, download the drivers for the 39320 then, to re-install the 39320 so, I
will do that tomorrow.

I will check the cables again. I can deal with the possibility of my IDE cable
having gone bad. Even if my U160 went bad, I do have a AHA-19320 and,
corresponding cable. It is just not how, I would want to upgrade that card.

I (physically)installed several hard drives in my computer yesterday but, now
when I turn the computer on, the computer doesn't recognize my boot drive.
I have configured my computer to boot from the CD-R/W drive since, I use the XP
Pro disc to boot and, not the hard drive.
I know power is
The drive was fine before I disconnected the data cable so, I know the problem
isn't related to SCSI.
