When I select this from the menu (in order to set a default printer) the little
green scroll bar moves SLOWLY to the right but never gets all the way. Even
after 24 hours! I have a scanner and two printers, and both work well; its only
this devices and printers manager that hangs up.

You can try running chkdsk and defrag. You don't have any old network
printers that have been removed that it could be looking for? Also
