Re: [CGUYS] my upgrade

2007-06-21 Thread rlsimon
I had a hdd death ...started to grind and disappeared from windows
...finally, lazy me, I put my dell 4400 pIV2.0-256-40mb on the table and
opened it. I had some stuff around I had purchased before months a go, lazy
me, but never put in it. So, I took out the dead WD 40gb 5400 hdd and put
in the Seagate 120gb 7200 hdd. I also had 2x500mb memory which replaced the
1x256mb in there. I also had a 4 port USB2 card since the 4400 had usb1 in
it. Buttoned it up and reinstalled windowsXP SP2 and OfficeXP SP3 and
Norton Systemworks 2003 and all that other stuff I use. I also found that
the Intel Processor I have has an Intel Acceleration Driver on the Intel
site that is supposed to make it work better. Whew!! Spent several days
now letting M$ do all the updates via my little dialup connection!! So,
now, should I be noticing something different? It seems to run just about
the same.

I'd be real surprised if you don't notice a difference with the 1G(?)
of ram. 256mb just isn't enough for XP and it should have always been
churning away on the old disk.

FYI, I'm using about 512mb on startup these days. ie, I have 1.5g (of
my 2g) left free as I write this.

PS I've heard nothing but bad stuff about that Intel thingie. But if
your system works with it, don't try to remove it now!
