I believe the case is that when you download free AVG, registration
is required to keep it running. They send you an email with a
registration key or such and you have to install it in your AVG
within 60 days or such or the free AVG copy will stop working...

Untrue regarding registration or it stops working. NOT according to
my having it installed on a few machines.

Basic antivirus and antispyware protection for Windows available to
download for free. Limited features, no support, for private and
non-commercial use only.

db, where did you get the information regarding AVG and it stopping
working without registration???
Something tells me that you are thinking about another of the free
Anti-Virus programs..

How much RAM does the computer have? As the programs automatically get
bigger and more complicated, the computer requires more memory just to
keep up with the same speed.

Also, thought sites were loading slowly due to FireFox, because seem to load
somewhat faster using IE. But computer takes forever to boot up, so
wondering if there is another reason or reasons for slow booting and slow
loading. I still think at this point computers should be able to note such
things on their own, e.g. slow or changed loading speeds, and offer possible
solutions. But in the meantime, sure glad we have this resource.

I use it on my anti-spam server, which scans incoming mail for viri as well.
Works nicely and has a reasonably small footprint. $50/year.
