It would take less time to take those drives out than to zero them out. Steve Tom I just did that. Removed drives from two old PowerMacs and put a hammer to them after leaving them outside in the 12 degree cold overnight. Didn't bother to open the case. The way it rattles, there's a few pieces inside. Now I can take them to the local recycle center as soon as it warms up to freezing. A disk recovery company can still retrieve data from a broken disk [very difficult and time consuming], but is it likely they'd want your friend's data? Probably not unless they're gummint computers. BTW: *Mac* = Apple Macintosh computer *MAC* = Media Access Control, the lower sublayer of the OSI data link layer, the interface between a node's Logical Link Control and the network's physical layer. The MAC differs for various physical media. [acronym] Get out your ball peen hammer and whack away at the disk! A maul might work better, but ball peen hammer is more fun. The older Droid may ship with 2.1 but it updates itself to 2.2.1 All of Verizon's line should be updating themselves to 2.2.1 as I was told that Ally would not ever get it. They no longer sell the Devour which shipped with 1.6 Stewart At 01:06 PM 1/23/2011, you wrote: Samsung galaxy on sprint is shipping with 2.1, this is the high water maker for android phones across all carriers. Re: [CGUYS] LG ALLY
That is possible, but there is not a phone being marketed right now that still uses 1.6 or 2.1 They are all being updated or pulled from the marker so it may be mutual. I know it is much simpler to be supporting only one level of OS on different platforms that a multiple levels of an OS over a bunch of platforms. It's not Google..it's LG and Verizon. Unless Google is putting presure on Verizon/LG that we don't know about. I view Google as creating the base OS and putting it outside their garage in whatever builds there are and phone manufacturers driving by and picking up what they want. Some 1.6, some 2.2..some 2.1. I'm still looking into rooting my EVO running 2.2. It is slightly more difficult than the literal one click root my hero had available. On Sun, Jan 23, 2011 at 11:18 AM, Rev. [CGUYS] LG ALLY
Well shiver me timbers, call me Ishmael. Last night during our sleeping hours, my wife's phone received an update. When my wife checked her version number it said 2.2.1. I checked and sure enough the Hot spot icon is in her apps. So it looks like Google has heard the calls and is trying to get all the current crop of phones on the same version of OS. (My Droid 2 came with 2.2.1) So thank you Verizon and Google for listening. Stewart Rev. Stewart A.
